IMO: One thing that is standing out to me with this is that in 2020 many colleges and universities are "paycheck to paycheck" and if CFB doesn't happen not just AD's but Schools are likely to shut down. Its easy during good times to talk about the importance of equal opportunities but the cold hard facts are if the big dog (cfb) doesn't "kill" the pack (non revenue sports) doesn't eat.

I agree with your statement, but with that said I think they will still have to cut based on what the numbers tell them.

I think waivers will be made to let the revenue sports do whatever they need to do. otherwise, basically every other sport goes bye-bye.

If certain schools with limited sports start cutting into its football program, maybe because they have no choice, all sports could crash down on them.
The any port in a storm never works when some ports are made to handle such a storm.
But,by law, all ports need to stay open, equally .

Time will tell, if opportunity only exists because of one portin of the ledger allows such things, hurting the big money may be a death knell to many.

I think the more popular women's sports might be saved (basketball, volleyball, softball) at the major-conference level at least, but the non-revenue men's sports will be cut for sure. Or they will just become "club" teams that are self-funded and don't give out scholarships or have paid coaches.

College athletics became an arms race where programs had to keep spending ridiculous amounts of money on coaches and facilities to keep up with everyone else. It was never going to be sustainable forever, especially at schools that don't draw big crowds.

If students don't get back to campus you may see enrollment drop at the large universities and year one and two students will look harder at on line classes at community colleges. This would make sense as it would be less expensive. Families have been impacted in a very large way that we may not know for some time. Sports will be impacted because less students means less student fees for athletic programs that rely on them.
