I think it was civil discussion, no name calling I saw, just different opinions. We need to be able to discuss

Sorry man. It got way off track. Let’s keep it CV19 related. I will be glad when we are past this so we can argue about football again.

That might be in 2021 so let us opine now! Most of us won’t be here when football comes back

The thing about locking a covid thread is there was some valuable information sprinkled in because the situation changes daily. There are new studies coming out everyday and although most of the board is too insular to care about reading a scientific paper some knowledge normally leaks into to their brains as they scan for political triggers. It is surprisingly hard to find a decent thread that contains new studies or information online as most media outlets are looking for clicks and generally science doesn't warrant such a thing.

Yep. It should have been locked, and the people who keep getting them locked should probably be given a timeout.

However, when the top sticky thread on this forum contains this statement:
_______________________________________
I know that in the past we have had a moratorium against political posts on HOL, but we understand that we are in a different time right now and it is nearly impossible to not talk about it and not involve politics. We are going to loosen this rule at this time.
For the duration of this serious coronavirus episode and news, we will allow one coronavirus thread at a time and politics will be allowed to be discussed in these threads. Please keep your politics limited to these threads
_______________________________________

Nobody should be surprised when politics are discussed.

True, but no one should be surprised that a thread that has "no name calling" in the title but contains posts like "My God, you are a brainless dipshit" get locked.

They just need to get rid of people like that for the next month. For the most part it was pretty tame.

Can’t we just get back to calling each other dipshits for our opinions about the 3-4 defense and using fullbacks?

At least 124 patients who were thought to be cleared of COVID-19 had tested positive again as of Tuesday, with the number of recurring cases having more than doubled from 51 on April 6, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Korea had a total of 10,564 cases as of Tuesday, up 27 from the previous day.

Health authorities said they were conducting tests to identify the cause, though they cautiously dismissed the possibility of patients being reinfected with the virus.

“We plan to divide and incubate the virus and analyze genes,” KCDC Deputy Director Kwon Jun-wook said during a daily briefing Tuesday. “We are closely looking into whether there are mutations in the important part (of the virus), which is critical in developing treatment and vaccines.”

The phenomenon probably stems from the patients’ weakened immune systems or from the reactivation of the virus, which may remain in the human body at undetectable levels, according to the authorities. There is also the possibility that the test results were in error.

As of Monday, there were no cases of secondary transmission from recovered patients testing positive again.

World Health Organization also said Monday that not all people who recover from the coronavirus have the antibodies to fight off a second infection, raising concerns that patients may not develop immunity even after surviving the virus.

I have edited that sticky post as it was kind of vague when it came to the topic at hand. Politics are allowed, but as it pertains to CV19. We don't want it to be a free for all that involves things such as Russia, impeachment, the election, etc. I'm not necessarily going to ban anyone who posts politics that go in that direction, but will probably end up locking the thread when it goes off the rails. It is hard to ban someone for talking politics when there is a lot of grey area there.

Also, in these threads there has been a lot of information, a lot of stuff people consider fake news or a lot of conspiracy theories that have been posted that people disagree with. We've had a lot of reports that complain about posts within the CV19 threads. If those posts don't break the rule of threats/name calling or off the rails political stuff, they will be left and the report will be rejected. These threads are basically enter at your own risk. If you don't like other peoples opinions or agree with what they post, then you probably shouldn't be posting in or reading these threads. It's not our job to police "fake news" or to corroborate every post in the threads. If you disagree with it, then post something that you think counters it in a civil way.

This is an unusual time for us right now. I really don't want these threads any more than anyone else, but being that there is no sports going on and little sports news and that CV19 takes up 99% of the news, the site owners have decided to open the topic up for discussion. Hopefully we can get back to normal soon and get this site back to a sports site. I miss sports.

Any info if they are showing signs and symptoms of the virus, or just showing positive tests?

I don't know any more details right now but I can look into it further tonight. It's all really interesting when you can separate it from the 'destroying our society as we know it' part.

Learned sumthing new reading this thread...you can actually report posts? #youhavetobekidding. I envision the person(s) doing that as a mall cop who couldn't make the height requirement to be a real cop.

how many posts are reported per week?

just curious. I've never and would never use that function, but wonder nonetheless.
I think I counted 45 reported posts in the last week. Some weeks it’s better than others. Sometimes we can go a few days without a post getting reported and then someone says something controversial and then next thing you know 10 pots are reported. Hell, we’ve even had people report mods posts. Haha. Sometimes it helps because we can’t always see everything and then sometimes it’s a curse because people report stupid crap. Like something they disagree with.
