China must pay.
They are at fault no matter what. We know they covered it. In doing so this basically doomed the rest of the world. Plus there is a possibility they intentionally started this for economic and political gains. Do you think China would blink an eye at killing thousands of their own people? This guy puts his theory out there, interesting.
I know it will never happen but the world needs to boycott everything having to do with China until these *** hat realize they cant just go on doing whatever they feel like. If the rest of the world doesn't I sure as hell hope we do. I will happily pay more for stuff made here vs China.

talk with your elderly loved ones about their wishes ... many should not be placed on ventilators or receive ICU care due to futility and the suffering these therapies can often cause without a significant hope of benefit

if things get bad enough we will see if America has the stones to deal with this pandemic

will chances of recovery and end of life decisions be left with the medical professionals or will we continue to deplete scarce resources providing futile care for weeks before families finally accept the inevitable as is the current practice in the US. Will the public be accepting of pulling support off an octogenarian WITHOUT family consent to improve the chances of survival of a 50 year old

will the legal profession feast on medical malpractice claims because front line physicians are having to take care of 50 complex ICU patients at once rather than 15.

Kind of ironic that those doom and gloom "death panels" those on the right were screaming about 10 years ago are now surfacing

How do we know though? How many countries are testing ~100,000 people a day? Guessing 1.

On the flip side of this, for the 80% that are symptomatic enough to get tested but don't have it...WTF do they have? And do we have the mortality rate of them?

Flu, Adenovirus (50+ strains known), other viruses. Army does some immunization for adenovirus but nothing for general population. I’m sure @dinglefritz could share more info?

I tend to agree with this. My wife had some of the same symptoms a couple months ago before we knew about all of this. She could have had it and not known. A friend of hers was describing to her the other day how she had a nasty cold and lost her sense of taste and smell a few weeks ago. My wife told her that she had just seen on TV that was a symptom of the CV. There are probably a lot of people who have had it and don’t realize it. I know of two people who have shown symptoms and have been quarantined but never tested. Those don’t show in confirmed numbers.

There is hope in the message but...the sad fact is the boom has happened in Italy, Spain, New York, China, London and the boom is the consequence of a threshold of cases being crossed. 20% of the population is likely very mild or asymptomatic, so that takes 10000 cases and makes it 12500 but there are still 2000 severe cases in the bunch and depending on the population we could see 500 deaths. China had 30% asymptomatic, Sk has 20% asymptomatic, the cruise ships are seeing 30-50% asymptomatic...this doesn't change the fact that everywhere that is disorganized or incompetent has face a major boom that has crippled the health care system, lead to preventable deaths, and strange containers being used as morgues. There is an unknown immunity and this leads the virus to hitting its peak after about 4 weeks of hell...but every condensed area that doesn't lock down before community spread is going to experience 4 weeks of hell at least.

If I understand correctly from what I have read the Adenovirus category included RNA based viruses that have a lot of replication errors when reproducing. This is how you get mutation. It's why they say the common cold can't be cured and the immune system doesn't protect you. It mutates too often too fast. By the time they develop a vaccine your way too late, it's too different. That's why you can get 2-3 colds a year.

If you believe that, I have ocean front property in Omaha I'd like to sell you. I'm not against corporate bailouts, but the truth is there is very little oversight on where that money is going. In some sense that's a good thing because companies in need who ordinarily wouldn't get it will. But if you believe it's only going to companies in need or companies at risk of failing, I highly doubt that's going to happen.

This happens on both sides, as a democrat I want to puke everytime my party supports big pharma or wall street and I know that careless globalization has only increased wealth inequality in america and has been driven predominately by my party. I am fine with a 1 trillion/year military that is there solely to protect economic assets but that money should makes its way down to American families, even if they just buy big screens and hot dogs with it. As Bernie put it..."socialism for the rich", and "tough and rugged for the rest"...that is and has been America...it would shock people how many young kids I come in contact every week who are hungry and dirty and have no access to a way to clean their clothes or get healthy food outside of the not so healthy school lunch or school food bank.

There are multiple other viruses including some garden variety Corona viruses circulating that can cause symptoms similar to COVID-19 but rarely cause the prolonged high fever and headaches. Influenza is still the most likely confusing etiology (cause). The problem with testing for other viruses is that you generally have to have an idea of what you're looking for. It's not like you drop a sample in a vial in a computer and it spits out a name. You have to run a specific test looking for a specific virus. That takes a lot of time and a lot of money. Alot of things have changed in the past 10 years that I'm not as well versed on as I would like.

On the other hand, IF you're doing assays for COVID-19 the testing should be fairly straight forward. You just have to design the test to check for antibodies present in serum. IF you want to have an idea of actual infection rates in a given area that is fairly easy to do but it takes time and money to collect the samples and run the serology to check for antibodies. Then you have to have enough volunteers to get an accurate random sample. which can be extrapolated to the general population. That's not exactly my strong suit. I'm not a statistician. There will be some tremendously important and interesting scientific papers published eventually out of this deal.

do you think - in the setting of a pandemic -that a 90 yo should divert resources from a 50 yo?
I don't think thus far that has been a decision in the U.S. that anybody has had to make. I do know that LOTS of seniors have made their wishes known to family members and sometimes those family members disregard a parent or grandparent's wishes because they don't want to let go. We forget that tens of thousands of their generation or their parent's generation willingly sacrificed their lives for this country. Many know their days are very limited and rather than see their kids or grandkids suffer they would gladly give their life to help them. . When my son was lying near death in a Chinese hospital while on a study abroad trip to China a few years back, I prayed to God that he would spare him and take me. It's just the way it is for some of us.

Losing your sense of taste and smell is not an unusual side effect of other nasty upper respiratory viruses.

Might want to check your math.

20% of the population being asymptomatic is giving us the 10k, your number or however many, not adding 20% to the number of cases.

Seriously people anyone on here who has been laid off or affected economically call your bank or go online and check your lenders - especially for Auto or home loans.

Here is an article what Bank of America is doing - virtually most or all will be doing the same - https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/27/ban...customers-can-defer-loan-payments-online.html

This is a deferral not a modification you do not need to be behind and it will not adversely affect your credit and credit reports. You are simply moving your payment to the end of the term. Yes there will be additional interest ( not much really) but if you can defer your house and car payments for a couple of months is that such a bad thing. If they do not have the information on their website call them

Brings me back to the time McCain said Obama was a good man and HIS supporters booed him, 10 days before the election.
This is stretching the truth unless you're talking about another video I'm unfamiliar with.

McCain said, "I'll have to tell you, he (Obama) is a decent person. A person you do not have to fear as POTUS." In bold is what people were "booing" and even at that it was only a very small handful of people (MAYBE 10 or so people) who were booing/hollering in disagreement.

The video continued.... "He's (Obama) a decent family man, citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on some fundamental issues & that's what this campaign is all about." Maybe up to a 1/4 of the crowd claps.

Way more claps from the latter comment than boos/hollering from the former comment.

FYI I just saw this on twitter regarding China. I am going to post it without comment because if you can't understand it, you probably can't read anyway.........

They have reported no new cases yet for some reason have closed all cinemas in the country again and are locking down some residential buildings in Hubei province that had been allowed to end their quarantine.

Hahaha, this is your proof? I'm not saying Trump isn't a racist because I honestly don't know, but it's hard to take vox.com serious when their "proof" is consisting of;

- Firing someone who happens to be black from The Apprentice.
- Trump suggesting Obama wasn't born in the US & he was a terrible student.
- Attacking NFL players for kneeling.
- "Muslim ban" which wasn't a Muslim ban.
- Lots of "seemingly a reference" & "reportedly said" & "suggested" which isn't any sort of proof of your claim.

Astounding what qualifies as evidence for a certain sect of the public. I was thinking our friends way out to the left might be able to do better, like prove to us that in the 70’s, Trump would have made a comment about supporting segregation and against bussing, you know, actual racist policies, like what Biden did, but I can’t seem to find something similar for Trump. Just imagine how outraged these decent and woke folk on the left will be if a “documented” flaming racist like Biden is elected!

There are like 40 different examples ....isnt that like 40 too many for most decent people? Biden is an extremely disappointing option from the left I just hope he has a strong VP choice and an excellent cabinet.

I didn't point out every single bs example. Just some of the more ridiculous "examples".

There are maybe 2 actual legit examples in the entirety of that article.

Biden is at least reasonable. Tulsi Gabbard & Andrew Yang were the best. Bernie Sanders & Elizabeth Warren were the absolute worst.

I think it's fair to say that we don't currently have enough, and we want more than we need just in case, right?
Like then

The federal preparedness plan leaves preparations for medical care up to state and city health officials, but the only government agency that amasses ventilators is the Strategic National Stockpile, created in 1999 by the disease centers to store medicine and equipment for use in a terrorist attack or a disaster. But the agency has only 4,000 to 5,000 ventilators, according to a federal official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of a dispute between government health and security agencies about whether the size of the stockpile ought to be kept secret.
https://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/12/us/hospitals-short-on-ventilators-if-bird-flu-hits.html
Bush set aside monies, it never happened.
Good read, shows how money gets spent up, how one president had money for it, another didn't actually do it, and the current one gets blamed for it.

You, idiotically extrapolated a ficticous death rate the entire population. So you seem to be contradicting yourself.

Get it together man.

You are so damn determined to prove to everyone that you are so right and so much smarter than everyone, that you don’t have the ability to read and interpret context.

I have never said anywhere that the figures are correct. I have pointed out what could be based on available data and estimates that experts gave. That’s it. Nothing else.

Since I’m dealing with this issue on a daily basis and still going to work, I’ll guarantee I am a lot more versed on what is going on than you.

You are acting like an idiot with an agenda. I don’t have an agenda other than I want myself & my friends and co-workers, and all the others who are truly risking their lives by going to work to not end up as a statistic (or bring it home to their loved ones). Some are in bad medical condition. Some are anxiously awaiting to see if their health goes to hell. Some have been exposed to stuff that would probably make you piss your pants.

So do us all a favor and put the keyboard down if you can’t start using some objectivity.

Thank you to the first responders who are putting their lives at risk to protect us all. That includes all medical, fire and police. Thank you to all the essential workers (the list is long) who are doing their job to allow us to buy food, gasoline etc.

Remember when the biggest worry we had was how the Huskers would do?

Or maybe she is just mocking the job performance of someone who has done the same to everyone he disagrees with. Does Trump not do things like this constantly? Was he not just mocking Romney being in quarantine this week? Maybe it isn't about next November (she isn't running) maybe she just hates the guy.

Thank you...I think what you pointed out makes it even worse, as the deplorables in the crowd were actually afraid of a black man, whom they thought was muslim...did you watch the woman later ask for affirmation that he was a muslim? What kind of person tries to defend this?
