True, but if Trump had told the country to lock down when there were only a handful of deaths, the Democrats and media would have called him a fascist dictator. You think the NYC mayor would have complied? Just 2 weeks ago he was telling his people to go out to restaurants and movies. Half of the cases are in New York, outside of NY it is been managed very well so far.
This isn't true, blue states were already moving to much stricter policies than red states...blue localities calling off school before red ones and so on. There isn't a best choice, there is a moral choice. The LT Gov from Texas made it clear. We can sacrifice lives to keep the economy chugging along and HOPE that it doesn't kill so many people that it shutdowns anyway. I mean how many teachers have to die before students start staying home? New York saw a 40% drop in attendance when they tried to keep schools open, and a principal soon died...37. Ironically, Trump can be forgiven because China was very closed about releasing information about the virus...there is a chance that they stopped counting deaths near the peak and the curve was artificially created because the political climate was getting pretty scary. And we aren't behind Italy or certainly the UK...South Korea has the fortune of living on a peninsula with the most heavily guarded border in history on its only land border. America has always been stupid and careless...we kill ourselves at an extremely high rate...100k overdoses and suicides every year...and 30k murders...sometimes I feel like our suicidal/homicidal nature comes out in these sorts of situations.

Lol

Good try, Lenin.

My posts are all public, feel free to prove your point with facts and quotes anytime you’d like. Preferably before your heiling hand gets too tired to work the mouse.

I don't even need to do that. People read your posts. They know you're ignorant on this topic, and had your mind made up that you weren't changing your life for some silly virus, because that's what "Real Men" do.

Keep backpedaling though and try to convince people you're more than the shitheel we saw here a few days back. I'm getting a kick out of your reversing course.

You sound reasonable...
American Deaths World War II: 405000
American Deaths 1918 H1N1 Pandemic: 700000

I would say that fighting a pandemic falls under national defense. I can't believe people still do not understand this...the President is who he is...he was elected to deal with stuff like this...his constituency is ignorant to problems like this, they have shown this time and time again. I think he is funny, entertaining, and a master politician...he is charming in an awful sort of way but I was terrified of him for two reasons...he wouldn't be able to manage a military crisis and he wouldn't be able to manage a health crisis...we just had to cross our fingers and hope those didn't happen. You have to remember that guys like Wilson, FDR, Truman had mental breakdowns from the pressure of war and pandemic...it is an immense amount of strain on a human being who understands that their decisions will not only cost a life or two but possibly thousands if not millions. We all know that Trump has built his power through his image not through production and productivity although he is highly active. How is he all of a sudden suppose to manifest a TRUE consequence when he has been about manipulating appearances? This will go from "don't test, don't tell", to "lockdown", to manipulating severe/critical/death stats in certain states to give the impression it wasn't that bad.
I didn’t see this coming, nor do I really put much faith in one person to manage anything so critical. The office of the president is kind of ridiculous, and you’re def right about all the stress/whatnot.

I also agree a health crisis is a matter of national defense, so that’s poor phrasing on my part.

That said, I do listen when people like Dr Fauci say his response has been reasonable and he seems to be, generally, listening to the smartest people in the room.

As with most things, individuals looking out for themselves will tend to lead to better results for communities as a whole.

I really only see you making these unfounded claims.

All my posts and responses to you are in 1 or 2 threads. It’s not hard at all to prove your point. And you'd be quick to do it if indeed you were able. Like me with your psychotic post suggesting the military kill dissenters who dare break curfew as part of your ‘plan’.

What a lazy excuse. Credibility envy is quite a thing.

They combined this with other national threats, no downsizing etc.Great move, more shared ideas amongst people who can help that are already working together, unlike before.

The most important thing to be gleaned from this is...how do we stop it the next time...how do we keep people working and going to school because a complete shutdown of the country was not necessary until the virus was everywhere and we had a national spring break/mardis gras celebration. The frustrating thing is Trump is pushing that the economy needs to stay chugging, but he didn't have the foresight to predict what this would do to the economy if it wasn't confronts. I can find a ted talk in 10 seconds online from Bill Gates that says a pandemic will cost 3 trillion dollars...a president has to know these things. Over the next three months we will have a chance to roll out technology that will combine serology tests, live tracking, novel treatments, and efficient ventilation, to see hot spots can be shutdown and quarantine effectively, with a low death rate while other regions nearby continue with business. The feds have to organize the state/state interaction and resource assistance for such an undertaking because this thing will still be here through next spring.

Thank you Dr Birx.
If 100% of us all got it, which is very unlikely close to happening, under the current model, 10-20% go to hospital, not 20%.
Now, thats only people who's tested positive and with bad enough symptoms to not ride it out at home.
Thats where the more likely formula of one in a larger number than five comes in.
That is just stoopid math, with no thought going into it, that 20% number.

So, currently, everything is guesstimations. But some are much more nuanced, more precise, where that london number sounds like the billionaire who ran for office would have given us each a million on his campaign spending type mentality.

You will not convince the sheep. Even if you show them the math and spell it out for them. They will only believe the propaganda/media because they're afraid.

They'll point to a doctor who said something and take it as gospel never taking into account how often they screw up or medical malpractice rates or the incomplete information they're commenting on.

They'll latch on to retarded buzzwords like "social distancing" and "flatten the curve" and think parroting those terms gives them some sense of superiority. They get indignant about calling it the "China-virus."

They'll ignore how government action is often wrong and a better response would be the opposite.

No government is perfect, only necessary.
A person who can do it on his own, is us at our best. Life at its best.
When we fail, we group together, because we have to, life at its worst.

And yet S Korea started working on a test January 16 (even before their first patient) and had their system up and running soon after. Their proactive testing and tracking, etc and the population's buy-in (except rogue church/cults) kept it in check and flattened the curve quickly, even in population-dense cities.
The US was much slower to react.
I hear all this, Korea did wonderful, stuff but the facts do not bear that out they are the middle of the pack on infections/mil of population - little lower than USA but not substantially - they are also the same as USA as far as deaths go. They may have been a little better but Canada at least so far is substantially better

And others with be openly racist, insist on using offensive terms that the majority of society had the self-awareness or decency to move away from. And then those same people will double down and somehow try to twist things and show how they are keeping things “real” or being real men by standing up against the “pc brigade” who have the horrific ideas that maybe we should have become intelligent or decent enough as humans to stop comparing willful behaviors to the segment of society that was born into struggles that the rest of us can’t fathom.

But by all means, continue to spew your small-minded ugliness.

Right, how do we stop it next time? Korea's response this time was the result of lessons learned from the MERS outbreak. They didn't do as well that time, but took a lot of organizational and legislative action to make sure they were prepared for it this time. Will America learn from this and be better prepared for the next pandemic? I doubt it, it would require a lot of fundamental change. But we will see.

By the way, I said the US acted slowly this time and they did. I never highlighted any one person, it was a collective failure of a lot of people.

This article reviews how Korea set up their infrastructure to be ready to react this time and compares it to the current setup here.

At 0.02% death rate, and currently ten to one hospitalization to death rates.
.2% hospitalizations, at 100% infection, and taking into account poor response early on costing a higher death rate, over one half million could become hospitalized in our country.
Thats a high number still.
As more numbers roll out, the smaller the numbers will get, as the only way to truly know is doing the hindsight 20/20 thing.
This is, and will continue to be a moving target. But, it is moving in our favor.

There is no shortage of ventilators. Dr. Brix addressed that today. New York has at least 1000-2000 ventilators available that are not being utilized, according to NY health officials.

You will never get 100% infection. Probably won't get 30%.

If it's as bad as they've tried to make us believe we should start hearing reports of all the spring breakers being hospitalized within the next week. (I'm betting that won't happen.)

Everything is results from activities two weeks prior, added to more real time higher testing, so, early on, societies first actions werent as great, and low testing means delayed higher numbers.
But as two weeks pass, those poor societal actions start showing up, and,two weeks later, testing also increases.
Also, this is not uniform, as test kits were delivered to hot spots first, again, spiking early numbers.
This will flatten out soon

Your choice to call it anything else is a personal choice because you want to be edgy or put down the country/group of people.

You take it a step further and talk about Kapernick? Taking a knee? The act which typically is seen as an act of sportsmanship when someone is hurt or reverence in prayer? You failed on that insult, sorry.

If calling out someone for using the R word, or choosing to continue to call it China when there is no justification beyond, I like it better, or it “triggers” the “left” marks me as privileged then I wear that accusation with honor.

True, but it has the ability to go over 30%. But, if people are staying home and not counted, we simply wont know, as their symptoms may not require any attention by the healthcare system, let alone a test.

One New York Dr laughed at the number of ventilators Cuomo said he needed. His retort was "who the hell is going to run them?". Managing a ventilator is NOT something even a lot of internists are qualified or comfortable doing. They do NOT have enough trained people to begin to manage the crazy number of ventilators Cuomo et al say they need. You've bought your party's talking points hook line and sinker.

Yet a multi trillion dollar redistribution of wealth known as a bailout is “capitalism” let the industries pull themselves up by the bootstraps right? The right embraces socialism quick when it suits them.

I support a socialized democracy, I think the worlds richest societies can afford to take care of everyone. And yes, I put my money where my mouth is and give generously year after year.

Yes, I know. I was disputing the idea that Korea's response was nothing special and average at best. And that their testing out of the gates was worthless, etc. Their curve looks vastly different from most of the other countries. And remember they have a really high population density.

If you,or anyone has a link where changing names of diseases prevents racism, please share.

I don't assume intentions, and can maybe later glean understandings for narratives, but this is long held convention, name disease for an area, like giving a hurricane a name.

By allowing anyone to attach ther meanings is only empowering those actually corrupt to effect us.

fiance and I have had 3 separate doctors tell us we likely had it just after the new year.. fever, chills, sore throat, persistent dry cough, aches, fatigue for 10-12 days. she had it first, after a week I thought I was in the clear then it hit me.

we both traveled through international airports over the holidays in addition to her working in a hospital.
I would think they would be interested in doing serology at least on your wife. That would be informative.

I support a socialized democracy, I think the worlds richest societies can afford to take care of everyone. And yes, I put my money where my mouth is and give generously year after year.
Again, socialism is viewed as a bad but sometimes necessary tool by the right, not cast aside, nor praised.
It certainly should have limits.
But those are very old ideas of the right, really really old, hippy days old.

The Republicans tied in a bunch of their special interests too. Why should the public subsidize companies planning to downsize and reduce pay to their workers? You also had some Republican senators planning to delay the bill so they could reduce the unemployment benefit provision.
Yeah the Republicans tied in bail out money to industries that will fail and lay off millions of workers if they don't do something to help them..... I didn't see any Republicans caught on audio saying "this is our chance to advance our agenda" like the Democrats were.
