We are really struggling with turning the signees into actual players when they arrive. We can get the commitments on signing day but then they don't deliver on the field. Our hit rate has been VERY bad so far.

Very disappointing by the way if Thompkins still is a no go. Sad for him, sad for us. Makes you wonder if he'll ever see the field or should just call it quits and take a medical.

Reggie Davis is to blame for the issue at RB. He never landed a RB and never really seemed to be a recruiter.

Thompkins was always going to be boom or bust. You don’t take a kind like that unless your willing to gamble. The good news at RB is it’s not ridiculously hard to come in and play right away. I’ve posted this before but look at the great RBs under TO, all played as freshman really. Some RS but that was more to save depth. Plus when you have an experienced O-line like we do, makes a backs job much easier. Rhamir Johnson is the dude that needs to have a big Spring. When you watch his HS tape, you really don’t get a lot out of it. He’s got to learn to get YAC.

WR is the issue. Manning, Betts, and JD on the fall roster and the position is probably a strength. Without them, the position is a major problem. Still going to be hard to get on the field for these young guys. It’s a hard position to learn. Hopefully the “no block no rock” mentality is gone now. Blocking is important at the position but getting open is just as important. I’ve said it a million times, I don’t care if a guy can run block on obvious passing situation. We need someone to get Open and catch the ball.

Haven't heard much on Manning lately, is he going to be out?

we have been reassured on multiple occasions with both Betts and Manning that there is nothing to worry about

the staff knows how much of a priority that WR was in this class - no conceivable way that both aren't on campus this fall

you never feel comfortable about it until they are on campus. All signs right now point to yes but we’ve seen this story before turn out both ways

Article in LJS the other day said Held checks in with him weekly. His JC coach said he is working out and getting his grades where they need to be. . He is on a very structured plan and his JC coach said he has no doubt in his mind he will be here this summer.

I agree -- I just think that given how important this WR class was, there is no way the coaches would have taken flyers on at risk recruits

You know exactly what's going on with these two. I really don't see how any of this is actually enjoyable for you, but to each his own, I guess.

Who has played? Last two classes were what, fifty guys in total? Forty are redshirted or the new class. That leaves ten guys in two classes, Nelson, Wandale, Newsome, thats all I can think of besides the jucos, Mills, even several jucos are redshirted, so, thats about it, four guys last two classes, the rest, redshirted.

Not sure how you come to the conclusion you just did.

Now, the very first class ? Thats a transtion class, and they traditionally suffer from poor vetting, last minute, getting in on late etc etc, and those classes don't do well, but these last two, where they were vetted, got in on early, were higher rated athletes, all that, in two classes, theres been four that were t redshirted.

So, those four guys, they are doing extremely well to ok, keeping in mind they were true freshmen.

I have no idea what's going on

all I know is that people have been quite sure that there are no worries with either. ... Betts being allowed to sign a NLI was cited as proof of how confident the staff was
the staff knew going into the year that WR was a can't miss for this recruiting class. ... they aren't going to gamble on coin flip recruits

I'm going to assume that this staff isn't going to employ the same shenanigans used by prior coaching staffs of signing highly ranked recruits that aren't going to get on campus just to artificially pad recruiting rankings and stoke the fan base then come August they are no where to be found

Which prior coaching staffs did that?
