Iowa has done well under KF. Yes, they’ve never been elite. But they run a pro style system on both sides of the ball and the NFL loves it. They are well coached. I am surprised they don’t get better RBs to come there. Would seem to be an attractive draw.

I think Frost will start beating them. The kids need to buy into his system. I believe next year there will be a changing of the guard. Maybe not completely, but Minney, Purdue and Neb will rise to the top

Iowa has a system that they are happy with. I hope NU sets there goals much higher. It is going to take time to work r way up the recruiting ladder. Hopefully the next couple of years we start showing positive results on the field and then in return we work further up the ladder. It will take time but by next year we need to start to see some improvement. Then year 4 and 5 should be better yet. Stay positive !

Don't kid yourself. Ferentz has gotten some highly ranked kids over the years. As a rule his classes aren't highly ranked but it always seems like he lands some kids who have NFL potential. Fant, cough cough. Iowa's problems have been with finding enough of those guys to beat upper tier teams on a regular basis. They don't have the quality across the board that they need to compete very often for championships.

Yeah. A lot of his lineman are highly ranked, and let's not act like Epenesa was a lowly 2 star that he developed. They do do a lot of that, but man Iowa would be really really good if they could do any sort of recruiting. They know how to develop players, they just really suck on getting a lot of the top tier players.

Oregon averaged between 18-23 in the recruiting rankings when it made its run earlier this decade. I believe they were in the playoffs twice...and maybe had one class near the top 10. So no, you don't need elite talent but you need an elite system with good talent or a good system with elite talent...we have neither right now. Frost will devise something that is unique and risky, he will either be fired for it or become a legend...much like T.O.
When Oregon played for the title following the 2014 season, they had classes ranked like this

2010 - 13
2011 - 9
2012 - 16
2013 - 22

and were right at the 50% threshold of 4 and 5 star athletes to total recruited athletes.

As much flak as we give Iowa for giving Kirk that contract, looks to me like he's worth it....and Kirk has had options, he could have left a long time ago, so he's also loyal on top of being a damn good coach. I like him.

How many times did Kirk throw it to George Kittle in college?

Iowa was recruiting well in 2005/2006 but they figured out quickly that star rankings are not the end-all be-all. A lot of the recruits didn't want to work hard, couldn't win spots, or got in disciplinary issues in some of the down years. They reevaluated the program and now recruit "Iowa Guys". One main motto is "hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard". Not to say they will not recruit 4/5 star kids, but they have to fit in the culture. Iowa doesn't sell sexy, they sell hard work and a proven track of results.

Iowa is also always trying to find the diamonds in rough. Whenever a MAC team has a high NFL pick (Khalil Mack) it drives Ferentz crazy. Why couldn't they have found and offered him? They will take some risks on undersized or under evaluated guys and had lots of success with them.

Sure everyone could compete with 4 or 5 star kids, but there is fierce competition for those kids. It gets to be a harder sell for each down year for the Huskers.

That's a great summation of what I've learned in my three seasons here in IC. I have a lot of respect for Ferentz Sr. and Parker. Now we just need to beat them or I'm gonna have to move away.

If Iowa could land top 20 recruiting classes like Nebraska, Kirk would be winning Big Ten titles. There is no doubt in my mind.
No doubt in my mind. He truly does more with less. Like everyone who proclaimed we had no talent after a handful of 4 star players left Nebraska, Kirk very rarely starts with many 4 stars.

Bullshitt Guy had what 2 or 3 first round TEs on his team with a decent O-line and QB and didnt exactly light the scoreboard up. Do they do a good job of evaluating "their" guys and developing them? Yes.

To act like they dont have talent and Ferentz is running his team with cobbled together with glue and wire and just some kind of genius is crap.
I’d say that damn impressive with recruiting classes averaging in the mid 30s.
