If Nebraska only wins 7 games next year. Frost will have 3 fewer wins over 3 seasons than did the previous coach that 1) they paid less money to, and 2) they fired because of said record. You're darn tootin' that he should be on the hot seat...especially for what they're paying him.
I'll even say that if they are 5-7 or worse, it is time for to Frost go. Most of the guys will be his recruits, and it will show that Riley was able to win more, while being paid less, with supposedly worse players. The only Riley-era players that will still be on the team next year are guys that were freshmen or redshirt freshmen in Riley's last season.
No program in their right mind keeps a coach for having 4 straight losing seasons. Moos will get fired and a new head honcho will take the responsibility of hiring someone new.
It isn't a frame....it is fact. UCF had many successful seasons under O'Leary, complete with beating P5 schools in bowls, before the 0-12. The 0-12 was an outlier, not the routine. IN other words, plenty of good mid-major talent on hand at UCF when Frost showed up.
And the only mental gymnastics I have seen are from people that think that UCF was all Frost, and the current situation is all Riley's players, despite Frost's expert coaching.

I think, emphasis on think, what some are trying to say is that they would like to see consistency. If fans are going to give Frost and staff credit for being the catalyst for an undefeated season in year 2 at UCF, then those same fans cant still be blaming Riley for the year 2 performance of the same staff at Nebraska.
Especially when you held Riley to a higher standard and have changed the goalposts of what success looks like after each season for Frost.

I'll be blunt....I think Frost is overrated. I think Nebraska was nuts to hire him, and I think Frost was nuts to take the Nebraska job when he did. I'm sorry, but the facts are that, after 3 seasons, he will likely have a worse record than the guy they fired before hiring Frost...to whom they are paying far more money for a worse record.
As I said in another post....Riley will have had a better record, with supposedly worse players, and he did it for less pay. 6-6 or 7-5 next season, and Frost's seat should be warm. 5-7 or worse, time to move on. The team will mostly be his players. No excuses for no bowl.
Frost isn’t going anywhere. But if he wants to win nine games and compete in the West, NU is going to have to be able to run the football against Iowa, Wisconsin and even PSU and tOSU. Pelini was able to do it. I think he can recruit WR talent that exceeds what Pelini got, but he also needs NFL level RBs along the lines of Rex and AA. Mills is a cut below that, as Rex and AA were all-conference.
I think it's setup for Frost to milk tons of money out of the University with no real incentive to do better because he's insulated from the fanbase and supposedly administrators say they have his back. $5 million a year... just keep the dog and pony show going, and 10 years will go by like nothing.. seems like a scam.
You really don’t think Frost, Moos, et al are motivated to do better? The just sit around dreaming of 5 win seasons that go on forever and ever? If that is the case, why is he in living rooms in Georgia and Mississippi today?
Good point. One silver lining this season is that we did run the ball well at the end of the season against Wisconsin and Iowa.
Hopefully the o-line keeps moving forward instead of taking a step back again at the beginning of next year.
This makes no sense what so ever. How did Riley supposedly have worse players than Frost? Riley took over a program that had won 9-10 for seven seasons in a row. If you are going to completely ignore the state of the program when a coach takes over, like you are choosing to do here, but not at UCF, and say every coach should be held to the same standard no matter what, we will be firing every coach from now to the end of time for not doing what Solich did his first several years.

Might be because many people, including Frost, are essentially saying that they're not good players, they're soft, fragile, etc. Plus, according to many on here (some of whom I have argued with), Riley was a terrible coach. Therefore, 6-6 or 7-5, and the seat should be hot. 5-7 or worse, he should be out the door. Most of the players next year will be his recruits, and 7-5 with a bowl puts him at 3 wins fewer than what got Riley fired. Seat should still be warm if you ask me....or are you going to settle for 7-5s?

That being said, it will take a few years with Frost’s players in Frost’s system for the consistency to be there to challenge the bigger dogs.. that will really chap some fans but there it is..

Nick Saban won a title in year three at Alabama, so anyone that doesn’t is a loser. All situations are exactly the same and all year threes are exactly the same. But Nick Saban also won 7 games in year three at MSU and 8 games in year three at LSU, so maybe they aren’t all exactly the same. I’m sure you will let us know which “reality” we are supposed to believe.

The rational that some of you show is seriously like the rational of a 4 year old... how has this whole changing coaches so frequently done so far for us? yes - that's generally why football programs fire their present coach and hire a new one - the coach they fired was crappy and they hope the new coach will have a better record if not in year one then the years after - if you have examples of where a program changed coaches with the expectation that their record would get worse I would love to hear them
since the late 1960s only 3 new hires at blue blood programs have started with back to back losing seasons

I despise with a passion the typical hypocritical post about Riley and Frost. It is going down just as I predicted when Frost was hired.
Riley took over a program that ran an offense that was nothing like what he wanted to run. For 2 years he played a QB that was not a fit in his system. People yelled and screamed that he should have just recruited a JUCO and benched Armstrong. Secondly, Riley did take over a 9 win team. So he was handcuffed in ways that Frost isn't. He didn't have the luxury of gutting the house and starting over. The fans were not going to stand for that. His teams needed to win 9 plus or they were deemed failures. Because most Nebraska fans don't watch football outside of Nebraska, Big Ten, Top Ten and teams coached by former Huskers, they had no idea who Riley was. So he wasn't going to get any benefit of the doubt. He was hired by a buffoon of an AD, that set him up to fail. Eichorst knew he ran a different system and still proclaimed that Nebraska will be competing to win titles. Then when Eichorst was fired early in the 2017 season, no matter what any of you say now, Riley was going to be fired too and was a lame duck coach. Everyone knew it, and any chance of recruiting a class was gone.
Frost comes into a dumpster fire, some the fault of Riley, some the administration, a bunch on Eichorst and Devaney and small amount of just bad luck.
The difference is that Frost was given time to get his players, he could start a true freshman QB without any expectations of winning 9 or 10 games in year one. He could implement his offense and defense with young players, again because the expectations were less than they were for any other coach 50 or 60 years. The fan base was and is giving him all the rope he wants. They make excuses for results and decisions that they wanted Riley, Callahan or Pelini hung at sunset for. But, but, but it's not his fault. If anyone dared say the talent on that 2015 team and subsequently 2016 teams weren't 9 win talent, they were met with comments like, well it's his team now, he should have fixed it. But if anyone says Frost should have the talent in place by 2020 to win 9 or 10 games, they lower the bar because, you know, Riley and all.
Again, I think Frost will eventually turn this around at Nebraska and I think he was the right guy for the job, but the moving of the goal posts and the lowering of what is acceptable plus the backlash anyone takes on here for daring to question Scott Frost is borderline ridiculous.

Gene chizik won the title in his 2nd season and he is terrible. Time will tel on Frost. But the expectations are so low now for Nebraska it’s a joke.
I guess I’m a little confused by this post... I know for me I don’t get the impression that people are moving goal posts for Frost or necessarily making excuses for him... I think there is a lot of people confusing the fact that we want consistency with we’re making excuses....I know for me personally I have wanted consistency for the longest time, heck I was even afraid of firing Bo because who were we going to get to replace him I didn’t think we would get any kind of up grade. With MR I will admit you got me pegged I had no idea who he was, but it’s not because of the reasons you said, it’s because he never fielded a team that was worth paying attention to...I know me personally I honestly didn’t care who the coach was and I have never moved the goal post, I wanted to give any coach time to turn the system into their system and then a little time to run their system, you cannot say that within two to three years a system has completely turned and got stability, and you wouldn’t find any post of mine that hasn’t been consistent with my stance... it takes time to get things set up and rolling... to constantly change things over is the same as saying we’re ok with being in this situation...
Exactly... thankfully Moos has set up Frost to be here a long time to get that consistency. 6 to 7 wins is not as fun as 9, but it gets us going in the right direction. Most cultures take 5-7 years to get in place, so relax...
But for Riley, the "it takes time to get things rolling" was never an option. I am not saying that Riley was ever going to turn it around at Nebraska. I don't think he would ever get the support from alums, admin or fans, even if he had the ability to get it done. No one cared about stability in 2017, it was only about winning games. No one said, lets see what happens if Diaco is able to get his players in to run his defense.
I think people want stability now, because all of a sudden we are like a person with a serious illness getting an experimental drug and we have this one last shot at life as we once knew it. Again moving the goal posts for Frost.
Just for interest, would you fire coaches every three years until you accidentally stumbled onto somebody who wins 9 in year 2?
The best part of this whole deal is the majority of fans get the reality of the situation. Also, Frost can operate under no pressure other than what he puts on himself due to his contract. His drive and self condemnation will be much higher than anyone on the internet could ever generate...
I am not too sure about that. When his contact got extended he made the comment about being “rewarded”. Rewarded for attendance and participation? He thinks he is doing a tremendous job right now.

that doesn’t mean I’m not going to point out how poor the record is - no one and I mean no one thought it fathomable that he might have a worse record than Riley at the 3 year mark or how 6 or 7 wins in year 3 could be construed as progress
he should get the same criticism as any other coach that was hired here and is winning at a less than 40% rate ... historically low
I’m going to compare his record and more importantly his top end achievements at Nebraska to other programs - particularly blue bloods since they are our piers - as I’ve said when a blue blood got their right coach there was almost always an elite season within 3 years
I’ve said if Frost wins enough to be comparable to an Iowa type program I believe that will enough because fans will slowly be accepting of that standard. The AD is already hedging on year 3 results with his comments about the schedule.

It kind of feels like you’re going off your own assumptions there... like I said before I’ve been preaching stability for a while now... that even includes Bo, and MR... Now I am with you there as soon as Moos was brought in it was obvious that MR was gone... now I don’t live in Nebraska so I guess I don’t know what the general feel was around there but sure you’re correct that most probably were not calling for stability... I still don’t think that is really moving the goal posts, I think the ultimate goal has always been the same and that’s to compete for championships, most Nebraskans do know a little about football, and They typically have a decent understanding of what it takes to be a winner... the MR experiment was doomed from the start, we hired a career .500 coach, and we ain’t talking about a coach that was young and “learning” through lower division... we were talking about a coach on the back end of is career and only going .500 in what most would agree with saying the worst power 5 conference, yet even with that you still seen most fans get on board and support him... I think he got a shorter leash not because “he ain’t from around here” but because he was older and should have known how to manage a roster, call games, and utilize the facilities he had... I do think expectations are the same regardless of who we have, but the short term goals in between are fluid, just as you may not expect a freshman QB to make all NFL throws, you shouldn’t expect a new coach to be perfect, now you’d expect your Senior QB to make all those throws, just like you’d expect your older coach to to run a tighter ship... the goal posts haven’t changed, but the yard markings in between may have, and that’s to be expected as you are dealing with different experience levels between the coaches...
