Just googled Cincy's depth chart. Looks like they only lose 5 starters this year. Their first three games before us are Austin Peay, Western Michigan and Miami (Ohio). That will be a tough game.
Next years non-conf schedule is tougher than this years based on this years performances. Nothing saying there won't be a drop off, but Cinc is certainly better than CU and has been a top 20ish team the last 2 years. The other non-conf games are playing for conf championships this year. So hardly bottom dwellers. The 2nd half of the schedule is clearly harder than this year with so many away games.
I know of a coach that once took a team from winless to undefeated in two seasons in that conference, is that relevant to this conversation?certainly you are not suggesting that Luke Fickell after taking over a 4 win Cincinnati team in 2018 is going to come into Lincoln in year 3 and make a game of it

The conference schedule speaks for itself. Cincinnati is a legitimate top 20 team. South Dakota State is one of those teams that has made a habit of playing p5 teams tough (like ndsu and the old App State teams). SDSU also has a lot of NebraskaJacks on the roster. Scary game. CMU lost to Miami by 5 this year and won 7 games so far. 2020 is a tough schedule.
We get it. You're "No Excuses Guy." So if we don't start out 7-0, losing to one of these teams that in your opinion we should beat, and if we don't make that up with a stunning victory or two in the Bataan Death March that ends the season (say we go 5-7 again, or even 6-6 with some lame-*** December bowl), what's the remedy at that point?my question is why does the Cincinnati coach have a legit top 20 team in year 2 after taking over a 4-8 team and we can't get to a bowl game
should we have given more consideration to Luke Fickell in 2018?
CMU you expect to be tough - they will be 2 years removed from a 1-11 season with a coach in his 2nd year there (if he stays) -
Nice trollingcertainly you are not suggesting that Luke Fickell after taking over a 4 win Cincinnati team in 2018 is going to come into Lincoln in year 3 and make a game of it
or that CMU 1-11 in 2018 might be a threat next year in Lincoln with a head coach in his 2nd year at CMU
Those are automatic Ws

Better yet, what's the remedy right now to make sure we don't continue to struggle as we have?
Thank you, but what happens to Frost if we don't win at least seven games next year? Hot seat? Dismissal? I agree that we should aim high, but how high and how soon? Your checklist is a way to improve the team, but what record proves that the current staff is unable to accomplish 1-4 on your list?the key to winning is the same as it is for every other school
1. Identify talent
2. Be able to recruit that talent to your school
3. Develop and coach that talent
4. Coach that talent on game day
do the above better than the majority of the schools on your schedule - even Cincinnati and CMU
1-4 above pretty much defines coaching

You and me both. Peace, brother.7 wins will be lauded as progress .. which I suppose one could make a case that it is
Maybe Frost will win big - routine top 10 finishes -
I think Frost might be the coach that leads Husker nation into the realization/acceptance that in today's football we might be Iowa and Frost is our Kirk Ferentz -- time will tell, I'm in favor of giving him 6-7 years to find out

Then do yourself and the rest of humanity a favor and STFU.I'm in favor of giving him 6-7 years to find out where the bar is set for this program

or
Alternatively, link one post of yours where you said we should hire Luke Fickell in 2018. If you can, I'll be happy to STFU.
again - we are a blue blood - we should have blue blood expectations. The expectations have been far too low around here
man there are a lot of people lowering standards and expectations with hope that maybe they can be met
I mean you can call it what you want, but me personally I wouldn’t say it’s ya lowering expectations, I still expect the huskers to compete, I expect that every year... but realistically we have been crap, so is it realistic to go 7-0 after having three straight losing seasons? Or is it more realistic to continue making small strides to the ultimate goal? The thing about goal setting is you have to set way points to the ultimate goal one can shoot for the stars, but you have to reach the moon before you get to the stars, and so on and so forth... short attainable goals that lead the the ultimate goal, or graduated expectations, you should look into it it, heck most the fans here should look into it before we start running more coaches and ADs out of town
Calm down huh? Hey, trivia question - who has made about 140 posts in the last week but is telling others to calm down? LOL, kinda frantic.calm down ... it'll be OK
Scott Frost at Nebraska in year 3 isn't going to lose to Luke Fickell at Cincinnati in year 3 after taking over a 4-8 team
Luke Fickell with Ohio State talent couldn't even beat Bo Pelini
next year when we are at the top of the division will confirm that Frost is the guy
disagree- pointing to previous three years record as evidence... obviously high expectations haven’t helped yet... again I think you are confusing high expectations vs realistic goalsdisagree ... expectations have been way too low for way too long .. it will help this team and the players if expectations are high

Even if we start 7-0, the final record could easily be 7-5.....I see where lots of people are saying the Huskers should start next season 7-0. I suspect that is possible but right now it is just as likely to be 2-5. My belief is it will be somewhere in between those two extremes! For that to happen the program is going to have to become a team and the one for all and all for one attitude is going to have to come back. No matter what anyone says the attitude of a team starts at the top and with leadership. Top being Head Coach and leadership being the captains. The captains have to have the respect of the whole team. Hopefully those things happen and the Huskers become an ALL FOR ONE ONE FOR ALL TEAM again!
the matt campbell fanboy OP is right
national title should be the expectation every year
I expect to compete for a national title annuallywhere did I say national title - just high expectations
I expect to compete for a national title annually
maybe you're part of the problem
high expectations are part of playing and coaching at Nebraska or any other blue blood .. the team needs to be confident
otherwise standards just gravitate toward Iowa and we start fretting about things like next years schedule 9 months in advance, or having to face off against Cincinnati or Central Michigan at home, or opening the season against a 4-8 Purdue team
where did I say national title - just high expectations
blue bloods don’t cower in the face of expectations such as winning the division.
All the talk about bullies like Cincinnati, Central Michigan and 4-8 Purdue coming to town must have got to me

North Dakota State is the one winning the NCs....but both UND and NDSU are in the playoffs right now, so, maybe......good point
jeez in 2021 we have OU- OSU-mich-MSU We still have Iowa and Wisc (not sure it matters if we have them at home or not)
2022 - OU and Michigan - maybe 2022 is the year. Wait...North Dakota is on the schedule - is that the school from North Dakota that is good in football? I sure hope not
You mean the team that was 31-9 in the 3 seasons before the 0-12 season?I know of a coach that once took a team from winless to undefeated in two seasons in that conference, is that relevant to this conversation?
You can frame it however you want, but you might want to check with the OP first. It is getting hard to keep up with the mental gymnastics required to fit everything into this narrative. You mean the team that was 31-9 in the 3 seasons before the 0-12 season?
If he does not post a winning season by the end of year 4, he's done. The marriage didn't work. This year was crucial get some heat off the seat but we all know how we crapped the year away.
