Why is Verduzco immune?

Every day I read how Frost needs to fire this guy or that guy. But no one ever says that about Mario. Isn’t his returning QB struggling this year? Some might even say that he has regressed somewhat. So why aren’t we clamoring for the QB coach to be replaced? Is it because he’s ‘Krazy’ and likes his cigars and has wild hair so it’s all good?

He's a pretty good recruiter...or seems to be. The Hairy Potter look must be popular with the kids.

As far as coaching it seems like AM just isn't getting it yet.

I think he’s done a great job. Martinez played well as a true Freshman and he’s had multiple QB’s ready to play this year. I believe AM’s struggles had much more to do with poor OL play early in the year and injuries than anything Mario has done wrong.

Maybe it's a new center along with 2 other new O line starters. New RB. No Stanley. No big WRs. A QB who's been dinged who's getting healthy. It's a team game. Not a 1 guys fault game.

Plus we have a solid slot WR as our # 1. I don’t know if it’s coach V or not, but we just need this year to finish well and to keep growing as a roster. If next year we are still struggling, then I think replacing a few assistants may out weigh continuity

Martinez only leads the conference in total offense.

He's one assistant that I think has done well, regardless of AMs regression. I think the step back has been more of his own doing or injury, not coaching. Because otherwise Verdu has has the other two qbs ready to go and have done quite well

I disagree. The OL was bad early in the year, but there are plenty of examples, both early and recent, when he had enough time, both in the pass and run game, and either executed poorly or made terrible decisions. He is looking better, especially in the run game, but it has been a slow process and he still looks way too shaky at times. He really needs to get good coaching this offseason because as I've said before I think Frost is set on him and so the team will sink or swim based on his progression.

You can have you opinion, but believe Mario is a very good QB coach. Look how well Vedral and McCaffrey played, getting guys that like that prepared to play is impressive. You can always point to plays where the QB could have done better, but I don’t think it is a coincidence that the QB is playing better now that the OL is playing better.

And we finally have a solid run game with Mills improving. Take a a lot of pressure off the QB.

After each wins a Heisman. I'm all N for all of our QB's but I think we as fans put waaay too much praise and blame on them. Just ask Coach Frost
Yes, Sir. Poor OL play until recently, no feature RB until recently, no outside WR still. But we want to crucify the QB.

Playing better yes, but he has really been struggling this year, and still way too many head-scratchers. Vedral has been in the system a while so he knows it well, and McCaffrey is a freak athlete, who really hasn't run much of the playbook and we can see that he can run well. I hope and pray that Mario is a good QB coach, but a Heisman hopeful is now really indecisive, making poor decisions, and not sharp. We need the qb to be good in order to win the West, so I will hope that the issues are something that are personal to Martinez and that he is getting past whatever it is and can get back to good.

Because Martinez has been dealing with major injuries the whole year and has missed boat loads of practice? When you see how Vedral and McCaffrey performed when called on, it would make you think that the AM's struggles probably aren't on the staff.

Whose crucifying him? I like the guy, everybody does, but bad decisions and bad throws are just that, so you can't blame the OL / RB / WR on his bad play. That's not being an apologist for the other positions if they screw up, but the qb needs to be held accountable too.

Martinez is getting worse the more he is under Mario's tutelage. Paralysis by analysis.

We've had enough bad qbs, especially at backup to know how good he is....AM has struggled partially because he can't trust anyone on offense...and he is still 19...but when he was injured his backups came in a ran the offense without catastrophe...this shows that they are being coached up...we all know that the qb is relatively unimportant in the college game because pretty much any qb can be successful if they have an awesome oline and good skill players. He had a very poor oline and very poor skill players for most of the year...wasn't Ken Dorsey a heisman candidate?

Trolling on Thanksgiving Day? Really?o_O
I can’t have a little fun waiting for the turkey?

Anyway I’m not saying he should be fired. I was just pondering why he has yet to be targeted by the usual negative nellies. Other position coaches have excuses (reasons) for their struggles too. Lincoln100 makes some good points though. Hopefully next year he can execute with more confidence and consistency. I don’t agree that he wouldn’t be replaced no matter what though.

I don't know if I would call it getting worse, but he doesn't process the info or run the offense as fast as Vedral does. There is a visible and remarkable difference in the offensive tempo between those guys. Why is that? I don't know, but I don't need to re-hash my thoughts on him anymore.

Martinez is mainly a victim of overhype, playing injured, and defenses adjusting. He is still better than most past qbs throwing 60% and 2nd on the team in rushing. He could be playing with a shoulder injury also.

Martinez was great last year; pretty mediocre this year. Maybe it's a Martinez problem and not a Verduzco problem?
Maybe it's a young inexperienced line and lack of receiver options other than JD and WR when they are healthy

so many fans jump straight to the coaches as the issue. It’s the coaches fault, coaches this and coaches that. But we fail to stop and look at the players and talent they are coaching or working with.

Coach V has done a solid to great job this far. Martinez has a solid to great true freshman year (a QB that didn’t play a down of football his senior year). Then this year rolls around, Martinez has struggled (agreed) but he has been coming along as of late. I agree with the posters above, I think it’s more due to a bad Oline and lack of big body WRs early on. Coach V also had Vedral and Luke McCaffrey ready to rock if needed. Plus he’s constantly getting his QBs he’s recruiting (top 100 Martinez, 4 star Luke McCaffrey and now 4 star Logan Smothers). I don’t see one thing that points to firing Coach V...not one.

At the worst case, let’s see how things go next year and the year after....we return every starting Offensive guy minus K Noa. We could have a very dangerous offense next year. GBR

AM has been hurt for the majority of the year. Plus look at what Coach V has done w/ Luke Mac
