top notch 5 star wide receiver to Nebraska like the ones playing at LSU and Alabama? Even Baylor had athletic, fast, able to run after the catch- wide receivers today. Why can we never recruit any of these top players to Nebraska?
A lot of the athletic, fast WR you see at Baylor and everywhere else that isn’t LSU, Alabama, Clemson are not five stars. We just have to get better at finding them, developing them. Vandy, Temple, Minnesota, Indiana, Mizzou, Memphis, Central Florida, all have great WR w size. It’s a matter of finding them. I would rather recruit & sign a high upside 3 star than chase after five stars, celebrate making their top 8 and then watch them play at LSU.

There is only one team on the schedule this year that would require 4-5 star players to beat. We have recruited better than all the other teams we have played.

There is no team in the West that will require 4-5 star players to beat. The difference will be coaching. Frosts 1st 2 classes were ranked well ahead of any team in the west. We should start seeing divisional titles

Because our QBs haven't been able to find them when they're open and get the ball to them? Meh. Don't need no stinking 5 star WRs. We need a QB who can find the high 3 star guys who are wide open for first downs and get them the ball accurately.

BS. I am done with stars, part of me thinks we are the King of Unactionable 4-star talent. Show it on the field like MN did yesterday.

Nebraska does need somebody to take the top off the defense, and a big-bodied #1 WR. Otherwise we skat around and dink and dunk and can't beat anybody with a pulse.

One thing that’s frustrated me this year (and was reinforced watching Bama vs LSU) is we do have some speed at WR on the roster but have refused to throw downfield and take the top off. They play aggressive and we play soft/conservative.
Even if incomplete, not making those throws allows defenses to crash down on us.
Williams, Woodyard, Houston, Nance, Johnson all have ‘track speed’ and Spielman isn’t slow. I know 3 are freshmen, but no reason we can’t find one or more of those guys to run a sprint down field and keep defenses honest.

I obviously am not trying to take anything away from
Betts but let’s pump the breaks a little he hasn’t played a snap at the college level... but for receivers that can make plays after the catch we have had a few.. don’t forget about Mo Purify, that guy I do believable was even a 5* juco transfer... made some amazing catches, then you have Enunwa (sorry probably spelled that wrong) but he was great for us plus as done pretty darn good in the NFL...And let’s not forget about Morgan either... and we could dig even further back if need be... and I’ll just leave you with two names that you’ll recognize from this year, wan’del and JD... both can make moves after the catch... just need to get the ball to them and or give them time to run their route...

yeah. I’m a big fan of all those guys too. And I’m not taking anything away from them. All were very good. but I’m talking strictly as a recruit, Betts IMO is our best land at WR in the rivals era.

He is the type of WR that you can throw to him even if he’s in coverage. Wan’del is a superstar but he’s hard to throw at in coverage due to his size. If you add ZB with Wan’del it’s really going to be hard to cover. Add in Manning and it’s going to be a secondary coaches nightmare. That’d be two big body WR that can catch in coverage and one speedster that you can’t put in single coverage. That’s the dream. Could really change this offense completely. I could honestly see JD being a forgotten man in that offense.

I know some consider Wan’dale Robinson a little different then a reg WR but he is exactly that. He barely missed that 5th star and if Wan’dale Robinson was 6 foot or taller, he’d been an easy 5 star ranking. same goes for Zavier Betts. Regardless of Betts being a Nebraska boy, he’s still one of those elite WRs you’re talking about.

there is no pumping the brakes on Betts. The OP said we will never get a 5 star WR recruit. Betts is exactly that (or well right there with them anyways). Sure, he hasn’t played a down in college yet but again, the OP was talking about recruiting, not how the WRs done when they got to college.

and the plus side of things, it sounds like Omar Manning is still a Husker lean that we should end up getting in the end. Adding him and Betts to our roster along with W Robinson and JD Speilman...we will have an instant upgrade at WR next year and on. Plus the additions of J. Nance, D. Houston and D. Chase from the their Redshirt years should help too.

We finally got one with Betts, from our own backyard .

I agree. For some reason we do not throw down field and opposing teams know this. Again bad coaching. I am so tired of the play calling at Nebraska. We are very soft.

plus side is, that’s only happened this year. Last year we attacked teams deep quite a bit with Stan Morgan Jr. and being fair here, we don’t exactly have a 50/50 jump ball WR of age right now (meaning on the roster yet or that’s not redshirting this year).

everything that’s been said and going around on Twitter he’s still a Husker lean. From what I can tell he hasn’t even used another official visit to another team thus far. I think he sees the perfect opportunity with us and being able to come in and lock up a starting spot from day one (which I’m whiling to bet we all agree he will).

this guy would give us the one thing and the biggest issue we are missing this year...a big body WR. And he’s a legit WR, was a top 100 talent out of high school and he’s continued to tear it up in the JUCO route after leaving TCU.
