Martinez the Pro style pocket passer

I agree with the commentator that Martinez sees himself as a Pro style Pocket passer rather than a running QB or Dual threat. I wish he would have taken all of the free yards when it was there for the picking in order to open up the game. Make them play up to defend the run, including the QB run and passing lanes open up.

Spencer Tillman saw the guy for 6 quarters before he figured him out completely. Imagine what opposing coaches see when they have 10+ games of film on him.

He's a pretty ****** pocket passer as well. I would settle for him being a pocket passer if he could.. you know, make the throws.

That's the thing...Tillman said Martinez sees himself as a pocket passer. That's the issue. Reality has not set in for Martinez yet.

Perhaps Martinez is still gimpy and being crazy careful since the other QBs are banged up? No matter what is going on with him, there were plenty of times he chose to throw it away or jam it into tight coverage.

Problem is he played the same way today that he has the whole year. Tentative and lost

Most the team plays that way, neither side picks each other up, defense hands the offense a gift and they fail to capitalize, offense hands the D the lead and a chance to win the game and the defense plays passive against a 3rd string QB with no pressure on him the entire drive.

He has regressed badly as a passing QB. I don't know what the issue is but he misses wide open receivers to a stunning degree. He seems better off running and throwing under duress than standing in the pocket.

Spencer Tillman dished out a lot of ugly, nasty criticism today, on both sides of the ball.

Had he not been 100% correct, I'd be really pissed at him.

Pretty sure Frost was out on the field at one point begging Adrian to run the ball (after the 4th down play when Martinez opted to throw instead of taking a wide-open running lane, fortunately for AM Purdue was flagged for PI). He did eventually figure it out and took off more. . .but the damage had been done at that point. Too many points left on the field today

Wished Martinez would have run more today. Wished we would have scored more and played better because we fans also want to go to a bowl game.

We would have won if Vedral started. I guess we're not "playing to win the game".

Agreed on his passing struggles. He is currently refusing to run which makes him a below average qb. He needs to go to the bench

I've thought for some time that McCaffrey would make a run at the starting QB job in the spring of 2020. Unfortunately he might get the starting nod by doing nothing more than staying healthy over the next four months.

I wonder if this is Verduzco making him to be a pass qb. He has no business throwing the ball the rest of this year. Our receivers did a good job to get open but he couldn’t deliver.

I dunno. Coach V seems to get the other guys ready to run the offense just fine. AM was fine last year.

Good lord, no, Verduzco and Frost have been adamant about Martinez needing to take running yards available, he only finally started to figure it out too late in this game.

Highly doubt this. Frost dose not run a Pro style Offense. AM was freelancing. Holding the ball. He seemed run shy all day. It was pizzn Frost off. AM needs to get a lot tougher going forward or we all may see him less.

Martinez thinks he will get drafted and that is more important to him than leading this team to victory over Purdue.

Show him the transfer portal.

Only healthy alternative to AM is Bunch. The other two are brittle and were broken by the mighty Hoosiers.

Adrian was obviously reluctant to run. But he did start to get more aggressive toward the end of the game on that option run and TD. The thing that I noticed is that Martinez seems to be trying to see the whole field and go through progressions, keep his eyes down field. He's trying not to just lock in on one receiver. At this point, it's not working. He made some bad decisions and missed some large gains he could have made by scrambling.

He's in a sophomore slump, but long term he should come out of this better than he's ever been. I hope so anyway. Frost seems to be getting a lot tougher on him and in the short term, we have a starting QB who is not playing well.

The good news is a decisive Adrian Martinez is baller!! The bad news is most of this season we have seen an indecisive, overthinking, non-baller version of Adrian.

His play reminds me of Space Jam when the Munstars stole the NBA stars talent.

Vedral seems to have better command and isn't hesitant to throw or run. I'd like to minimum see him get a drive or two moving forward so Adrian can see the offense run efficiently.

Martinez has accepted more blame for the struggles than Frost has. I can live with a 19 year old kid owning up to his mistakes. A 40 year old man blaming everyone else but him gets tired. He is the one making 5 million.

He'd be delusional but to accept his share of the blame. The guy we thought was a heisman contender is now only playing because everyone is hurt
