I believe that since he was a walk on at MSU and will be a walk on here, a waiver wasn’t needed.
Not sure that is true. Baker Mayfield needed to sit a year when he transferred to OU from Tech. He eventually got a year back, but that was just the extra year that the Big 12 took away because of the intra-conference transfer.
I think a waiver is needed, unless someone can show me the rule.
The rule was changed this spring to allow walk ons to transfer without sitting.
He announced he was transferring in February, before the change in rules took place in April. In every article I could find, it said he needed to file for a waiver for immediate playing time. It may very well be that he was granted immediate eligibility, I just didn't see any articles that confirmed that was the case.
I honestly don’t know why he was allowed immediate eligibility, but I was told that NU was prepared to file a waiver for him when they were told that they didn’t need to.

I don’t think there has been anything said about it in any articles. Someone told me about it and then Sean Callahan confirmed it on RSS a day or two ago.
