Will Adrian be the first NU Husker QB drafted in the first round since...I don't know when...ever? Good size, arm strength, intelligent. Seems like he's on his way. Good thing he's ineligible for 2 more years.

Im not going to call him a first rounder yet. Let's see how this year plays out first. He has the talent, but still has 2 seasons before he is eligible.

If he simply repeats last year's performance each year until he declares, he'll be a first rounder. I'll go ahead and call him a first rounder.

I still remember going to a watch party and the guy next to me was telling me T-Mart was going to be a first round NFL pick at QB. I quit listening to him after that. But Adrian has got a shot I think. Is he really 6'2'' like he's listed? I think with the current NFL his height is "good enough". Arm strength looks NFL quality to me, and last year he was still coming back from shoulder surgery. If his accuracy keeps improving and he cleans up the stupid turnovers, he's got a shot.

No way. He ranked 37th in passing yards per game, 17 TDs, 77th in yards per completion. Led his team to 4-7. That’s not going to get you drafted in the first round.

He's a lot better qb than Iowa has ever had.

I watched a video of TMart from 2010 and I had forgotten just how bad he was throwing the ball. Fast runner, but really not a QB. A Mart on the other hand is a great throwing QB that can also run. I would rank his passing ability as up there with the best we've had, surpassing the West-coast offense QBs of the Callahan and Riley years (none of whom could run and a few of whom were to light to play effectively). I'm optimistic that as long as AM stays healthy he'll be the best we've ever had overall.. He might not have the win-loss record of Frazier, but he'll blow up the passing and total yards stats.

The next time Martinez stays healthy for, and actually plays, an entire season, will be the first time in a long time. I'm going to go with no on this one, with the right to change my mind if his health cooperates at some point.

TMart had a funny throwing motion. He kind of slung it from down low.

Draft really nothing to do with your team unless you are upper tier. FOr the most part NFL QB is all on potential and your measurables.
The notion was that he could have the same performance the next three years and get drafted in the first round. No way is that true. He is going to have to improve his performance. To get drafted that high, he is going to have to perform better and better each year. The Big Ten has had like, 2 QBs drafted in the first round in the last 15 years or something like that. It’s not an easy thing to do.
He's a lot better qb than Iowa has ever had.
What does Iowa have to do with Adrian Martinez discussion?

I don't disagree, but Mitch Trubisky as well as a hell of a lot of other QBs weren't drafted on their success is the only thing I am saying. I agree with a lot of what you are saying, just merely stating NFL at QB position has more to do with you frame and potential.

Jake Locker was a bad college QB and got drafted early in the first round. The guy from Wyoming that plays for the Bills now didn't put up crazy numbers. EJ Manuel. Josh Freeman. Ryan Tannehill. Lotta guys weren't as good as Martinez in his freshman year and got drafted in the first round.

Edit: I should add that I don't disagree reallllly disagree with you, he does need to improve... particularly his turnovers.

Thanks for making my point. Iowa has absolutely nothing to do with this. So, why were you here at 3:30 a.m., again?

Don't you have a team to worry about? Fall camp? Anything?

He will go 3-1 against Iowa. That is the relevance.

No way. Exact same numbers and he’s a first rounder

Fair points and thanks for actually discussing and thanks for actually having a discussion. I will say that out of the guys you listed, Locker is the only one comparable in size and he was still an inch taller. The others are 2-5” taller and that matters.

Manuel and Tannehill had far superior stats. Freeman slightly better. Josh Allen had better stats as a junior and that’s where he made his money IMO. I’m sorry, but you don’t get drafted in the first round at 6’2” unless you put up video game numbers.

It’s really up to him. He has all the tools to be an elite QB. But his production needs to be a lot better. He did fantastic for a true freshman QB. And I personally would not trade him for anyone else including Tua or Lawrence.

Adrian is most likely going to slip to the 2nd or 3rd round, because it is a deep QB class this year.

Boy we haven't started his soph season yet and we're already shipping him first round? I see the Kool Aid IVs have already been hooked up.
There was at least one voice of reason in the thread.

You can't tell me he didn't look like he had a very bright future after his freshman year. Who would ever expect he'd become less accurate and not mature mentally at the position one iota. If anything he's regressed in 4 years with the occasional moments where he seems to get our hopes up momentarily.
