FWIW: Andre Hunt atop the WR depth chart

In his appearance on Sports Nightly, Troy Walters said that Andre Hunt came out on top the depth chart at the conclusion of Spring practice. He also singled out Kade Warner as a leader in the WR group. Now things can and will change for sure during Fall camp as it about to get under way. But the OWH article summarizing the Sports Nightly discussion on WRs is worth a read at the link.

Early last season, they acted like he was going to play and then he kind of fell off the map. I think we're going to be in good shape here.

Any chance Noa can replace Warner? Would be nice to have a smart QB friendly WR that is not slow.
I wouldn't worry about Noa getting playing time. He's apparently versatile enough to fill in at all the WR positions so he'll get all the time on the field he wants as long as he stays healthy.

I also wouldn't be knocking Mr. Warner - he's Mr. dependable and definitely has a role to play.

I think it is more likely that Noa would take Hunt's spot. Hunt still has a lot to prove. Fall camp will be very important for many of the young WRs trying to get into the rotation.

My top 5 WR would be JD, Noa, Wandale, Warner, Hunt. That doesn't take into account positions. It would be good to have more big speedy guys, so Hunt and other youngsters need to step up. Actually, for our "big" targets, the TEs are key. I bet we see more TEs in the red zone.

Noa more likely will play all 3 receiver positions, so he is very valuable and can interchange with any of the other staring receivers like Spielman, Warner, Williams, Hunt.

I love how the guy who has yet to have one practice with this team is suddenly the most knowledgeable about every position.

This group is full of so much potential. The best part is we have a proven, young QB spreading the ball around.

This is how I view the group.

WR diversity groups
1. Hold your breath:

JD Speilman
Wan'Dale Robinson
***Maurice Washington (WR when motioned out)

2. Possession, get open and catch the ball!
Kanawai Noa (Proven D1 WR transfer)
Kade Warner
Andre Hunt

3. Speed, pure burners
Mike Williams
Jaron Woodyard (NU track star)
Jamie Nance
Miles Jones
Demariyon Houston

4. Physical receivers
Jaevon McQuitty

5. Match up nightmares
Jack Stoll (6'4 260)
Travis Vokolek (6,6, 250)
Austin Allen (6'8, 250)
Chris Hickman (6'6, 215)
Kurt Rafdal (6'7, 245)

Is Warner the new Westerkamp?

Not the most athletic receiver we have, but very reliable.
Add to that list the fact that he must be a good route runner, solid hands, and is football smart. I mean, these things are obvious just looking at his headshot.

WR success will also be dependent on good pass protection from OL.

If we can get a good pocket with time (including roll out plays), then I think we got enough WR weapons to do some damage.

That's why Warner played last year. #1- He knew the offense unlike some of the faster receivers. #2- He can get open, which is more important than straight line speed (unless you play in a dumbed down Art Briles veer and shoot scheme).

This list shows you how many high-end receivers we have gotten over the past couple recruiting cycles! It's time for these guys to show up. When you have 22 positions to fill, you can't continue to spend 4 scholarships every year on wide receivers.

Do we have any actual dash times to prove Noa is even faster than Warner is or we just giving him the "heady player" treatment?

There's a reason why we want our TE's to free up quickly and get up field.
We can make the safety or LB make the wrong decision every time, but everyone has to do their jobs.
So far, this hasnt happened much, but at ucf it often did, and hitting the TE in the seam is huge.
If they abandone an area and follow the TE, they're really screwed.
I expect to see this much more often this season,as well as better blocking on the edges.

Despite lack of proven players, Walters said he’s ready to play the freshmen, and we got numbers at the position now. It’s just up to them to step up and start separating themselves. They should all be motivated by the opportunity they have: Spielman, Noa, Robinson, Warner, Hunt, Williams, Woodyard, Jones, Houston, Nance, Chase, McQuitty, plus a guy like Wyatt Liewer.

Some dudes need to emerge.

Noa's been working out with the QBs and WRs. I think the comment about knowing all of the positions came from Martinez. IF I remember correctly, I heard that same comment on Sports Nightly. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they've had informal 7 on 7 workouts this summer.
