They are young kids still and lacking awareness. There is also a big difference in terms of how powerful the odor of the weed is now as opposed to 20+ years ago. A lot of the stronger weed has overpowering smell that will travel through a bag and down a hall no problem. That's without even smoking it.

It is surprising that word hasn't gone around the team that smoking in the dorms is not a good idea.

I won't give them a pass for being young. I didn't turn 18 until my birthday in mid -October of my freshman year at NU. I lived in California until I was 10 then Oklahoma, Colorado and finally 8-12 grade in a small Nebraska town. I don't think I had too many big city street smarts. I still managed not to get arrested during my years in Lincoln. I will agree with you on today's pot. It is definitely HIGH octane.

They would be much better off vaping e cig than smoking weed. The former makes you smarter, the later destroys your brain and makes you stupid.
I'm not inclined to do either, but I would be absolutely fascinated to hear how vaping an e-cigarette makes you smarter.

How many do you have to vape before you become smart enough not to believe this claim?

These kids need to wise up, the university police are nothing but a want-a be but couldn’t make becoming a state trooper. There just strutting there stuff. You don’t think this happen 10,20,30,40,50 years ago cuz it didn’t. If it wasn’t weed it would be alcohol just ask Terrell Farley and a few others

How on Earth do NU players get their hands on this stuff when it's illegal in Nebraska? They must drive all the way to the dispensaries in Julesburg on the weekends, produce a fake ID, and buy it over the counter.

They could do that or... they could go buy some from Jed. He's about 10 minutes away.

Not sure if this has been said, but I’ll throw it out there as a coach. If you get caught like this, there is a much greater chance that this is who you are and what you are about, than just what you do.

I’m also looking for the first kid in the world that stops smoking because football starts.

Finally, I still always love the stoners defending weed under any circumstance, then blaming the kid who turns into a wastoid at 16-17 because he/she can’t handle it, and if they were getting blitzed on alcohol, they’d at least understand the physical detriments.

To me, whether you legalize it or not, I think there is a drug culture problem throughout US society.

Spending some time abroad in other places has shown me that it doesn't have to be that way. I've noticed that in some places, you won't see public intoxication, even if alcohol is legal.

When I asked about that, I was told that societal shame was so high, that no one dared to be seen intoxicated. It was this cultural norm that kept most people from crossing the line to abuse.

The culture in the US is the opposite.. everyone is looking for the next way to amp everything up, whether it is booze, weed, or pills or some new combination.

Yeah...these guys didn't just start once they got to college...they started much earlier and like you said, it is who they are.

Hypocrites in government. Legalize it for farming so we can profit when it is legalized nationwide but continue to punish citizens.
You should look at Kansas rules on industrial hemp growing, all the regulations plus you could have your total crop destroyed because it had to high of a content, more for smoking that making rope. And then you get nothing. As a farmer thanks but no thanks, not going down that path

nicotine constricts blood vessels very hard on the cardiovascular system. Weed doesn't have that effect. For athletes weed is definitely the way to go between the 2

Nicotine is as harmless as caffeine. Smoke and tar and the other crap in cigs cause cancer ect.

Yea I know this stuff is minor, but the fact remains it’s illegal and against team rules, quit being morons! Team leaders need to have a sit down and straighten this stuff out.
Yep, I don't care one way or the other. This is starting to become a problem. Not just the fact it is making the program look bad on a national level. It is starting to tell me these kids are not the brightest bulbs, to see their fellow players get busted and not learn, only to get busted themselves.
In my opinion, you want to smoke, have at it. As long as it doesn't affect your school or football. From what I understand it is against team rules, so assuming Frost doesn't think it helps. This show these kids still don't quite understand what Frost is trying to accomplish here. At the very least be smart enough to not get caught.

another player caught in dorms last night, legalize it before we start losing recruits in the future.
After now the 4th player in 2 months to get caught. It leads me to believe one or more of the following.
These players are not the brightest
Lincoln has the most A-hole cops in the whole country
Somebody is following these players around, just looking to call the cops on them.

It is not hard to not get caught. 42 years plus of enjoying it, never had the police ask me about it. Now it is legal here, what a treat.

Still, don't drive down the road smoking or you may have to answer questions you don't want too. Just do not draw attention to yourself if you choose to break any laws.

Anybody against legalizing & taxing it is ackbassward. There is no gray area, no middle ground.

Yes, legalizing something that is harmful is always a good thing and the promised taxes make it a bonus gift. I don't know why we would stop at weed, why not cocaine, meth, speed and whatever else people do these days to get high.

Matter of opinion about being harmful.. marijuana is a herb and some use it as medicine...Cocaine and meth are harmful..

The rules on hemp growing in NE are the same

I wonder why Frost says, "It will continue to be a problem". I bet if the coaching staff punished the players who have been caught and made an example out of them, it wouldn't continue to be a problem. I am not talking running or stairs but really go "Full metal jacket" example that would make it stop.

With the problem continuing even though the staff said we talk about it all the time, one can only assume the talking isn't working. A little less talk and a lot more action is needed. I am not saying this staff is not disciplinarian's but it seems the players are not taking their words to heart if they continue doing it. Time for the staff to make an example out of the rule breakers.

legalize it all, cut the cartels off at the knees, save thousands of lives, chip into the insane national debt, empty prisons for violent offenders, treat instead of incarcerate

It seems to me the players need to quit doing at the university suites that is where they’re getting into trouble for the most part and indulge somewhere that is less conspicuous..

Which is exactly why anyone who wants to ban guns is ackbassward. Billions of dollars have been distributed to states for natural resource conservation through the taxes collected from the sale of guns and ammo, along with fishing tackle and motor boat fuel.

Some people you can never reach. They're set in their ways that weed is the same as crack. I used to think just like him. Evidence shows that it can be very beneficial for some folks. If your using meth or opioids chances are that you are unemployable. You may have to beg and steal to support your habit. Pot users? They may "steal" all your cookies.

Sorry but I have witnessed firsthand how weed can drag down motivation and lead directly to cycles of major depression, and to other illegal substances.

then we should definitely quadruple down on a strategy (prohibition) that doesn't work, costs exorbitant amounts of public money, fails to educate anyone on the possible risks associated and fails to treat those negatively impacted.

smart!

Hard to say, lots of variables in these situations. But weed definitely was a negative contributor.
Of course it can be a negative contributor when abused just like anything else.... Alcohol and food are just certain examples of what people over indulge on that can and will become a negative contributor at some point. To me that is on the person and not the substance. I don't smoke week never had an interest to do so. But I do know some high functioning individuals in society that do.

You haven't read the data I take it. No, it is NOT opinion. Read the research. I guess you have not witnessed young kids smoke their brains out with pot? Yea, I tried it when i was much younger, didn't see the big deal about it. Later as an adult working with kids I saw what it did to them. So, yes, it is my "opinion" it is not good based on my observations and research.

I love how we are in the time when everything needs to be proven by science - except when someone has an opinion that doesn't match up.

It's on both the person and the dope. Dope can be removed.

Yes thanks for stating the obvious. Just like legal alcohol and anything else some people choose to abuse. Again it goes back to the person. This can go on and on. I get our opinions don't match and I'm not trying to change anyone's mind especially since I don't even partake in it. But the people I do know and see them function very successfully I just don't agree with the negative condensation you are giving it. That is all.
