Same here...I was stoked when we signed his dad. He was a 5.9 4 star WR and top 250 I believe??? He was definitely a 4 star either way. I’m curious to see what his son gets rated? And I agree, sign him up. He’s 6’2 180 right now? And he’s what, 2021-2022 recruit?
This is insane. It feels like his kid should be 8 or 9 years old now, not in high school.

Wow, that means he had a kid at 16 or 17. Couldn't imagine having a child Im responsible for at 16. Most can't even take care of themselves at that age.
That was because we were a run first team then and he wasn’t a good blocker like they wanted. If he was allowed to just line up, and play a true WR roll, he would have torn up the BIG 12 CBs. Remember, he did make an NFL team (Colts I believe) for several years. But again, because he wasnt a great blocker, he didn’t see the field a lot while a Husker.
Again just to be factually accurate. He played in exactly 1 NFL game. He was on the practice roster for the Colts for the 2010 season but was cut Mid September 2011 and didn't make another NFL roster.
I am not discounting any of his accomplishments, but just wanted to clarify that he wasn't an NFL player for several years.
Wow...I was going off memory. I didn’t think a magnifying glass would be broken out and dissected. He was signed by Tampa Bay Buccs and then resigned with the Colts. None the less, it showed he had true WR skills to an extent. If he was used correctly while a Husker, he’d definitely had a decent to good career. EDITED: and I mean as a collegiate career. NFL team/s seen the talent, I just have no idea why he didn’t pan out there.
Believe the screen name was "Beck2Lucky4daTD" or thereabouts. Its owner deserves recognition in some form for keeping it years after it became a sad reflection of recruiting promise gone wrong.
But it just as easily could have been "Beck2Brooks4daHeisman" with all the recruiting hype under Callahan and the WCO passing "explosion" looming. What a strange time in Husker history.
I remember a Beck-to-Lucky screen name, good times. Brooks was a heck of an athlete, just never really produced on the field for some reason.
I didn't get out a microscope, I simply looked at his stats because I didn't remember him have an NFL career that spanned several years.
But now I did get out the microscope.
He signed a free agent contract with the Bucs and was cut before 2010 camp was over, signed with the Colts, was cut and signed to the practice squad. He was called up for a game in November and didn't record a catch. He was then placed back on the practice squad. Stuck through camp in 2011, but was cut and put on the practice squad in August and cut for good in mid September.
Point being, his NFL career resembles that of Kenny Bell more than that of Niles Paul or Quncy Enunwa, both of whom had several years of NFL experience.
As far as Nebraska goes, he did play in an offense that currently has the 11th most single season passing yards in Husker history and he had 14 catches his senior year. Also on that team were Niles Paul (40 catches), Brandon Kinnie (15 catches), Rex Burkhead (13 catches) and Roy Helu (19 catches). He also was on the roster for 3 of his 5 seasons under Callahan, he redshirted in 2006 after having seen the field his freshman year 2005. I wouldn't exactly call those teams run first. So, while that 2009 season was more run first, it wasn't your typical Pelini offense because Watson was still the OC.
Ehhh.... we weren't really run-first in 2005, 2006, 2007, or 2008. Not like we were with Solich or most of pelini's tenure. For most of brooks' career, we were Callahanning the ball all over the yard with mixed results. Early in 2005 and throughout 2007 we were more of a punt or turnover-first offense to be honest
Didn't realize he was still around in 2009. That year we had a run first offense but I don't think that was the plan going into the season.
Like I said, until 2018 season, 2009 was the 10th highest passing yard season in Husker history with 2100ish yards. Not exactly Ganz or Z Taylor, but higher than anything Humm, Ferragamo, or Tagge put up.
Didn't mean to take this off track. I just didn't remember Brooks having a long career so I looked it up.

Thanks... thought you were referring to the 2008 season. Very surprising because our offense was pretty bad that year.. especially through the air.
I think Lee's stats were boosted a bit by facing Florida Atlantic, Arkansas State (340 yards), and Lousianna Lafayette. We also played 14 games that year so that would definitely boost the total yardage.
Do you have yardage per game figures?
About 175 but still better than the 150ish we averaged on the ground that year. If I am not mistaken, Cody Green took over the starting gig against Baylor and Oklahoma, but Lee won it back and then played with a jacked up elbow the last 3 games.
Lol, I imagine it is very difficult for you to make friends. He was a good player for the Huskers and made a roster in the NFL.

I believe his girlfriend moved to Lincoln with the baby (not sure if as a freshman or shortly after). He was in married student housing most of his time in Lincoln, if not all of it. He was a relatively mature guy as a result.
Not at all, I have all the friends I need. But when you guys keep bringing up crazy points, I will question them. Similar to what Scarlet did when I spelled Ferragamo incorrectly. However, when I was told of my error, I simply edited my posted and told Scarlet "noted". I didn't get my panties in a wad and complain about my post being put under a microscope.
I guess your definition of good player for the Huskers and mine are different. I have nothing against the dude personally. In fact, I don't know that I have a thought about him in the past 9 years until today when I was told he was on an NFL roster for several years. So I looked into it. You see what I found. 1 game and a season on the practice squad.

I appreciate his contributions to the cause, I just don't see the need to remember him as something he wasn't, apparently because he has a kid that plays high school football.
He played for the Huskers. He was a good player. You dont make it into the NFL without at least being a good player or the potential to be one. I left you a loophole.
You googled him. Was he a menace to Lincoln? Was he a kid hard to coach? Did he have problems with alcohol and drugs?
He may have not been a star, but he was a good Husker.
Thanks Tuco. That's how I remembered it too. I also remember him being undrafted and unsigned after the draft, but got an invite to the Bucs tryout camp. And that was his foot in the door to the taxi squad.

I responded to a post that said Brooks played several seasons in the NFL and that the reason he didn’t have better receiving stats is because he played for a Husker team that was run first. I didn’t remember those things to be accurate so I looked him up. 1 NFL season, 1 game on the 53 man and played 2 seasons in Callahan’s offense and 2 more on Pelini’s team that was coordinated by Shawn Watson.

As I said I have nothing against him and I appreciate his contributions. I just simply don’t understand the need to remember him as something more than he was.
I don't always like the way you come off Tuco, but I certainly agree with you on this one. Chris Brooks didn't live up to the hype, but he seemed like a good person and if his son wants to sign on and has the talent I'm sure we can have a spot for him.
