The major new info. in the article is that the next court proceeding for Washington in California is scheduled for Monday at 9 AM Pacific Time. The purpose of the court proceeding is to clarify or appoint a California lawyer that will represent him. According to the article it is NOT mandatory that Mo himself appear in court on Monday although he is on break next week. For those who need a refresher on the particulars of the situation, the article also recounts the previous story. Free access to the article at the link:

If this goes to trial, theres little chance its done by fall.
A plea deal is possible beforehand if it doesnt come to trial, however even that will take time.

Count me as one who believes washington will not be playing next year at UNL, if ever.
I hope Im wrong.
But Im confident Im not.

I seen people get probation even for felonies. I’m really assuming he doesn’t have a previous record and if that’s the case he’s a lock for probation. If he gets charged for this charge now, the one he’s facing now, he’s not getting kicked off the team. If he was, Frost would have done it by now. Letting him remain shows Frost hasn’t moved on and believes he can keep Washington on track. Maybe it’s because it was an issue he did while in high school and nothing he’s done since becoming a Husker or Frost just simply has faith in the young man. Unlike the poster above, I KNOW he’s not going anywhere. And he will be our starting RB come fall after a game or two suspension. That’s because he won’t suddenly get charged for a worse charge or another charge.

Would anyone here do what he did sending the video to that poor girl? No pity for Mo however it decided.

The girl and her mother (or stepmother) may be demanding that the prosecutors not drop the the child porn charge. I don't know if that would make a difference.

That’s common with almost ever single case. So nothing new and definitely nothing different. The judge won’t play into that any. If so he’d be hearing 10s of thousand parents weekly.

The way I look at this is it's something that 18-19 year old kids do. I'm not saying that all kids his age do something this stupid. No. They do all kinds of stupid. It's just the age or hormones and immaturity. Wash will plea it down to youthful indiscretion. He will do community service. A couple games suspension. He learns or he doesn't.

That’s exactly what’s going to happen. The judge will ultimately take into consideration that this did happen while he was in high school and a minor himself and the cops waited or eventually charged him once he was an adult (which yes, they do that type of stuff often) and that will play a roll in it all as well. Of course, this is my guesses from what i have seen in the courts growing up. It will definitely get pled down a charge or two and will be a probation outcome (I feel he gets that over community service...actually he may get both). Like you said, game or two suspension and we move on and pray Mo keeps his nose clean.

No I would not, and it's something I would not have done even at 18. And although I'm not for that behavior, this is what happens when you make sex videos on a phone. Unfortunately not a single person involved did the right or noble thing. They all were participants.

Everyone does dumb stuff. This wasn't rape or murder and if it's his first ever offense at anything, I'm going to chalk it up to a bunch of kids got stupid and they are all now paying for it in national embarrassment....on top of civic penalties. Maybe Wash is due a harsh penalty, I don't know all the circumstance details.

Exactly Frost himself has said that Mo has handled the situation between both school and the legal process well. He made a dumb mistake but other than that I think he has his life together. Don't forget he worked his *** off just to get to Nebraska and overcame odds academically that most would not have and everyone thought he couldn't. At this point since being at Nebraska he has to our knowledge stayed out of trouble and has done what has been expected of him.

Maybe Mo can apply for this...if he is indeed a first time offender and has no priors on his record. Definitely depends on Cali law but it appears they allow it too....unless I’m missing something.

Usually that's at the discretion of the prosecutor and/or judge. Prior to the MeToo movement there's probably a decent chance he could get into such a program, but with the current social/political climate I'd say it is pretty unlikely.

Get his life back in order? LOL He's not a drunk or drug addict. He made one mistake.

Never said he was, with all this on his table I’m sure with him trying to keep his grades in order he has had a lot on his plate the past 3 or 4 months and harder to concentrate..

“Lawyers for the three teenagers reached an agreement in which the charges were reduced from a child pornography felony to a misdemeanor of telephone harassment.”

This is Washingtons initial charge he’s facing. And This was a similar case that I found and looks like it could be the same way Washington’s case could play out. The young men here got 1 year probation. Again, Washington’s initial charge is just a starting point for the DA to get the ball rolling. Examples like this is the most likely outcome. Being a first time offender with no priors on his criminal record should be and will be a minimum charge/s. In the end, I don’t see Washington missing anything more then a game or two. And receiving a very extreme scare and lesson learned.

Weren't the other 3 minors at the time and that’s why they were reduced, and Mo was considered a adult when the message was sent which would make it different in Mo’s case...

Just saying..

No same age as Washington’s. 18-19 years old. That’s why it was a felony from child porn. If minors they have to charge it differently. It’s just how they do it. DA starts off as high of a charge as he/she can get it to then it usually always gets pled down a charge or two and then you got the charge. Or it goes to trial (which this only happens if the defense lawyer thinks he/she has grounds for dismal, which usually means the DA has a very weak case).

Edited...and we have to remember. Washington was probably about 17 then or close to 18. He can’t be no older then 18 now even. A lot of that will also play into this. This girl was his ex-girlfriend. That said she can’t be that far off from his age. That’s why this case confuses me. But either way, having no priors and if this gets knocked down to a misdemeanor like it should, he should be in fine college and football wise.

Oh get what you mean now. Your talking about something different all together. My example I gave wasn’t from or had anything to do with the Washington deal. This was a different charge and different people. You thought I was using the boys that where in the video. No I didn’t use that one.

Prison? That’s laughable. As for his football career, that is not laughable.
You dont think the worst case scenario for being charged with a felony is prison time?

Or you dont think it will come to that with Mo?

One of the above Im arguing. The other Id say go read my post again.

Being in possession of the video can be chalked up to a youthful transgression.

But after being specifically instructed to delete the video or in the future it could lead to felony charges and ignoring this advice could be viewed a bit different.

He was already let off the hook for this earlier when he was essentially given a warning and told to get rid of the video. Sending it some months later, having been briefed on the potential consequences, starts to fall outside the realm of a youthful transgression into a premeditated felony. Having done this without awareness of the consequences could be chalked up to stupidity - Mr Washington, having already been informed of the consequences, is going to have to plead next level stupidity

If that happens he will end up in california again, playing for a juco...patience is not part of the equation anymore...and Cam Newton modeled it perfectly. Get in trouble with the law, disappear for a year and play football somewhere, then show back up and make the league.

I hope so, but it doesn't pay to predict what a prosecutor, judge and court will do. I watch American Greed on CNBC habitually. One guy with a prior felony cheats 20 people out of their homes and gets six years federal. Then another guy with no priors cheats 10 people out of some 401K money and get 20 years federal. Factors here include how much pressure the girl's parents are putting on, how POed the court is about getting strung along for several months, if anybody involved hates athletes, whether the court is looking to make an example, and all kinds of other things we don't know. Maybe an old flame recently sent the DA's wife a revenge porn gif and he is bent out of shape about this particular type of offense.

Not sure that getting kicked off the team is off the table. Nothing will happen until due process is complete. Then I believe it's in the universities hands not Frost's. The days if TO allowing LP to be suspended aren't really possible in today's political environment. Think of Moss a few years back. Bo had little power to keep him on the team

Exactly- anyone familiar with the California prison situation and California case law knows he’s gonna get a mild spank of the hand- worst case. Your right about his football career- bad optics.

Hopefully he gets the Stanford swimmer judge. If you can rape someone and not serve any time, this should be a slap on the wrist in California.

haven't seen a pic of the stanford swimmer but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the optics of the 2 defendants are a bit different not to mention the bankroll devoted to their defense

Washington was 18 at the time he sent the text of the video to the girl. That has been established. He is 19 now.

What does the girlfriend's age, as compared to Washington's age, have to do with anything? And why would that cause the case to confuse you?

We really don't know what will happen to Mo. I will say his actions speak of a person with questionable emotional control and obviously questionable judgement. It would be interesting to know whether he has really learned something from the events. Prosecutors see a lot of young defendants who try to act contrite without really being contrite. How he handles himself while in CA sorting this thing out will go a long way to determining what the ultimate outcome is for him.
