Being good and deep on the D-Line probably is the most important thing a defense can have. I also think we're deep enough in the secondary. BUT we're extremely thin at LB. Hoping there's a transfer or two immediately eligible in the works at LB before Fall (not good odds though).

He looks to be an extremely talented DT. Given his stats (6'5" and 305 lbs), my guess is we use him as a power DE in the 3-4 or as a DT in a 4-3 look (he's a little tall to be a true NT, but he is big enough to where he could be used there in a pinch). He sounds like a physical freak of nature and we get him for 2 years and can redshirt him this year if we want to after he plays 4 games just to see what he can do and adjust to Power 5 play.

I agree by the way, that I think our defensive line and our secondary are absolutely fine and especially loaded with talent, but man our LB's are thiiiiiin. One wonders if we'll A.) get a graduate transfer or JUCO LB), or B.) start showing a lot more 4-3 looks this year just to compensate for how thin it is there.

At LB we have Mo Barry, T Ferguson, C Tannor, J Domann, A Davis and W Honas. That’s our experienced and most talented LBs right now. OLB is ok to solid. T Ferguson on one side with C Tannor/J Domann on the other. ILB is our biggest worry. Can we get help for Barry? Is Honas back to full health or is he still rehabbing? It really stings for us how he got hurt last season. Give him a full season and him and Barry are locking down the ILBs. MAYBE A Davis in for Ferguson and slide Ferguson to ILB??? Or Domann on Ferguson side and Ferguson at ILB?? We have a couple options there.

You left out Colin Miller at ILB

I think Myles Farmer may end up at OLB..Just a hunch.

Oh we definitely got some young guys coming in. I was only counting the experienced ones. C Miller is definitely an option next to Barry. Having D Williams and DisMuke at safety helps. Both guys can hit and are known tacklers. Having L Jackson, C Bootle and C Taylor as our top 3 CBs, it will allow are safeties to help in run coverage a little more.

If in fact Frost is the recruiter I expect he is - look for new recruits to play much sooner than in the past. Not only does it look like talent will get better but couple that with significantly improved S&C and coaching. We have been conditioned that players out of high school can not play often and early by the last two staffs. This is not true for top programs and I expect it not to be true for us

Makes no sense not to play them now....But I agree, put them out there...I think game experience trumps everything.

I actually think ILB is better off than OLB at this point. Collin Miller or Honas will do just fine alongside Barry. What worries me most is finding an OLB besides Ferguson that can be an every down player. I hope that Domann can become that type of player, but he hasn't proven it yet. Tannor needs a lot of work in pass coverage, and even though he was just a freshman last year, I wasn't too impressed with his pass rushing skills. Alex Davis just doesn't seem to have the mental part of the game down and don't know if he ever will. People said before the spring game that things may have changed for him, but I didn't see it.

I'll be shocked if Nelson doesn't play this fall. Then there's Hannah coming in who from all accounts appears to be a guy who can play early. Add in a couple of walk ons who have looked in good in practice and the spring game in Paup and Cassidy. I think we'll be just fine depth wise at linebacker this fall. I look down the list of walk ons and man there's some dudes on that list. There's quite a few walk ons who are pretty easy to imagine playing down the road for us.

I remember being on this board in 2007 and there was a lot of hype going into the year. We had just barley lost to Auburn in a bowl game and had a #1* recruiting class in 2005. I remember thinking we just lost our QB and had no one returning at tackle. I had a sick feeling it was going to be a bad year.

This year is like the reverse feeling for me. D line and QB are our areas of strength. When’s the last time we had that coming into a season? It’s been a dam long time. I think we can be very good this year. I mean really really good. LB depth may be an issue but god-willing, and zach duval did his job, we stay healthy and it’s not an issue. The real question mark is center. Jurgen’s is going to be a beast but I think it’s asking a lot for him to come in and play a position he’s never played before and excel. I just don’t know who we have at center right now and that’s my only fear. RB will come around. I’m not worried about that.

That team had turnover on the defensive line, a brand new QB and a crappy coach going into his 4th year.

Not the same...Neither is the schedule.

Yeah, I know. I said. This year is like the reverse of that year - meaning the opposite. That’s why I’m pumped
