Obviously a lot of talent leaves next year but he has an opportunity to be the go-to player on a team to see how far he can carry them.

He has the physical make-up to be in the NBA, but I think he needs another season of becoming a go-to scorer to be a viable NBA candidate. What say you?

I’m going out on limp here and saying yes. He might have the potential but he didn’t show out quite good enough to warrant a good draft status this year. He’d definitely do better for himself to come back next season and improve his game and show he can dominate like we all know he can.

Depends on who the head coach is. Personally, I think he develops better for the NBA in the D league, not in the Big tackle basketball league

Today's game is exactly what we needed to keep who we have. It was a total team win, and it is, as far as I'm concerned, the first game that Roby has looked like a stud. His play was very different today. He looked to finally have the attitude that he knew that he was the best player on the floor. If we can keep him and Harris and Allen I will be happy.

I don't see why he would leave early when at best he will be a 2nd rounder. A few predicting services see him between 31 and 45, but most leave him completely off the list. He will probably freak everyone out by declaring, just as Copeland and Palmer did, and then return when he doesn't see his stock rise.

I am guessing he will be back his Senior year. He is too old to go to juco. He didn't use his redshirt year and probably doesn't have his degree in 3 years. I doubt he would want to sit out a year just and spend 2 more years in college. Roby has a lot of potential and development under a good coach could set him up for success in the NBA.

He is doing well in the College of Business. And his professors like him. Good family and the degree is important to them. Very involved in the local community. Another 10-15 lbs. of muscle before next season with a new coach that can development him and he can really set himself up financially(much higher draft pick than currently). There is a decent chance he will be back with the right new coach.

In most cases I think NBA brass have pretty much made up their minds on college players after three years, so there's not a big incentive stay for a fourth. Roby could be an exception though, since he's either been badly underutilized offensively or he's been too passive offensively, depending on how you look at it. Either way, he could probably improve his stock next year if he's in an offense that makes better use of his ability.

To me he needs to get better with his one on one game, taking someone to the rack, backing someone down low. He needs to be much stronger, too many people just back him down and push him around. Some of that is playing the 5 spot but still he needs to be a lot stronger.

It's been so long since we've sent a player to the NBA (Andrew White doesn't count) if Roby explores that avenue and is projected to be drafted I wouldn't mind him moving on. We are likely to have a new coach next year and whoever that is will be starting from scratch. Hard to believe but there was a time when Nebraska had more players in the NBA than any other Big 8/12 school and that includes Kansas.

We'll be lucky if we have 5 scholarship players return next year. Roby will grad transfer

If hes smart he returns. Needs to grow up and learn how to hold on to the basketbll. Hes at about 1% of his potential. Watching him is frustrating as hell, I almost hope he leaves only for that reason. Slightly kidding.

Here is what you have to ask yourself.

Will he all of a sudden be a top 60 pick? No, he won't, because if you look at NBA mock drafts college seniors might as well be senior citizens. They are not getting drafted in the first round and I think there are like 4 listed for the second rounds of the next two mock drafts.

So, why come back? Go to the D-league or go play overseas and get paid, especially if he has already graduated or is going to be graduating.

I think he goes graduate transfer route, we will be horrible next year unless something strange happens and all of the sudden our bench players get much better.

That's the big question; can he graduate in time?
Yeah I know Roby is a good student, but graduating in six semesters is pretty tough for anyone. Most players who grad transfer had a redshirt season. Or in the case of football, they enrolled early in what would have been their senior year in high school.

I know my drink of choice is kool aid, but I don't think we'll be horrible next year if two things happen: 1. retain the guys already on the roster (yes that includes Roby), and 2. get a couple juco's or grad transfer bigs. There are some dynamic players here already that I'd like to see under new leadership.

People are forgetting about Dachon Burke, who I've heard in practices has been the most impressive player on the team. If we can retain him and Roby, and Heiman can put on another 25 pounds, we might not be terrible next year.

Unfortunately, I don't think Jervay Green and Mika Adams-Woods will come here if we fire the current staff. Jervay will likely be a CU Buff in that case. But hopefully the new coach can find a few players late.

But being impressive vs guys that suck might not matter much! Haha

I kid I kid

But, yes ther skers will probably be better next year but that really doesn't mean much right now.

Someway somehow even if Roby stays we have to find a wide body to replace Borchardt. He ate some minutes against some really good post players for us.

If Roby had the killer instinct Mitch Hahn from Omaha has, he'd already be in the NBA. He is a passive player and I question whether the want-to is there.
For the first 2 years of his college career he got yanked out of the game and yelled at if he made a mistake or took an outside jumper. I think he just needs a different voice in his ear. This team this year was a mess psychologically and I think it's because of the way they were coached. Not x's and o's but rather how their minds were messed with. The Frost philosophy of "no fear of failure" would help Roby immensely IMO. He played great against Iowa and I think that can be more routine for him next year.

He isn't ready for the NBA. He needs a year where he is THE go to player and he learns to be consistent.

Roby has all the potential in the world, but I agree that he lacks the killer instinct. If he stays I think he can improve his stock some with a good year. I also agree that he may have been mentally damaged his first couple years when he would get yanked out of a game for a silly foul or turnover, but I also think Miles had other ideas for him when we had Morrow, Jordy, & Jacobson in the rotation. This year he was forced into a more prominent offensive role. Depending on what happens with the coaching situation, I think he should stay and work on his overall game. He either needs to get a more consistent jumper or a better post game cause he's not great at either. He will most likely be a 3/4 in the NBA which means he will need to improve on the offensive end. He is very quick off the ground and can make it tough on the opposing offense to score due to his length and athleticism. If I had my dream it would be for him to come back and work on some things and then be a 1st rounder.

Roby and NBA talk always amuses me. Outside of ONE good game does anyone think that he is NBA bound? Yea he has shown up at times and I certainly think he has the potential to be that good. In somewhat defense of his play he is probably playing out of position at Nebraska too, which doesn't help him.

I am not sure it is safe to assume he will graduate in 3 years, that's not very common.

I think Roby will get drafted either this year or next. The fact that his offensive game isn't NBA-ready isn't going to keep him out of the draft. There will be a team that feels he can help them as a defensive specialist who can run the floor and rebound, and whatever he gives them offensively will be a bonus.

The player I would most closely compare him to is Andre Roberson from Colorado. He snuck into the first round after his junior year without being able to shoot the ball through a Hula Hoop. And although he's been injured for the past year, Roberson has made a nice living in the NBA.
