Well they still won the game...so not really. Probably should have let overtime playout before starting a thread.
Not a good win at home for the committee for a team on the bubble. The BAD loss to Nebraska will do them no favors. Love the idea of NU playing a part of keeping them out .

McGregg has one of the top 5 P5 jobs in the country because that stadium will stay packed (if they keep selling booze) and the product on the court won't matter because it is an event. Dude hit the jackpot in terms of gigs.
I think the Jays at least need to make the final, although that would be no sure thing. That game they gave away against Marquette looms as a big missed opportunity, because Creighton has several good wins but only a couple that are real resume-boosters.
People have been saying Creighton is going to teeter off for a really long time, maybe they do, maybe they don't, but regardless they've done great for themselves up to now. Glad to have 'em in Omaha, nothing but a plus for the city. Also, were it not for them, we may not have the building they are in now, whatever the name of it is this year.

Really? The last 5 seasons he is 40-48 in conference place with zero NCAA wins. Most P5 schools that means hotseat time. But not for Jays fans!
He has 3 NCAA wins in 9 seasons! Simply amazing the sell job he has done or that Rass has done. Since joining the Big East he has 1 NCAA win.
To the second point...you are probably right if not for the jays (beer sales) that building might not be there.
Maybe Creighton fan is smart enough to know what their ceiling is. The big east is a tough conference. Not one team is below ,500 right now. You also have to factor in that creighton is still getting used to not being a mid-major where you almost had to win the valley tournament to make the ncaa. When they made the jump, people thought they would struggle and maybe even be the worst program in the Big East. So now that they’ve been top half more often than not, Mcdermott is still exceeding expectations. Context matters. Which is why I can’t understand Nebrasketball fan expectations.
Oh and 3 NCAA wins in 9 years sounds pretty damn good.

Getting used to the conference? It is has been 5 seasons...They did better in the conference when they first got in it than they are now. The Big East is what, 4th best? The Big East is not the old big east...thank god they have Nova.

I don't know what Husker BBALL fans expectations are but it seems like they are shockingly low...If you are in a P5 conference I feel like your expectations should be to make the dance 75% of the time.
They've had some pretty bad injury luck (and a phony rape claim) as well with two of their better teams.

I'm realistic. Nebraska has what, 3 D-1 basketball schools, and produces less than 3 legit D-1 players a year? I don't expect Creighton to be a top 25 team year in and year out, and they have done great for themselves. I'm satisfied with what they've done to now, and if that helps McDermott have one of the best gigs around, sweet. I'd prefer that, than a horrible gig that has no success playing in a crappy building. Creighton has been awesome for Omaha, and I'm glad they are here.
What a dumb post. NU has much greater resources and has, unfortunately, sucked for 20+ years and you downgrade Creighton for "ONLY" three NCAA wins in nine seasons. What?????? And though it's nice to have a beer at a game, Creighton has played exciting and successful styles of basketball for 20 years. Conversely, NU has played horrible, boring, crappy basketball for 20 years. Maybe the basketball and not the beer sales have something to do with attendance. So they should completely change their mindset and flip expectations after one full recruiting cycle after decades of being the little guy? Top half of the 4th best conference is pretty damn good for a program that came from the Valley. And yeah, they were better the first year or two...Because they had a once in a generation player on the team! Everyone said they would be awful after Doug left, but here they are again, top half of the conference and on the bubble.
Make the tournament 75% of the time? Nebraska has never won a NCAA game and think they should be a top 40 team 3/4 years? Wow. You realize that would result in programs firing coaches every couple of years, right? I feel like your expectations/perception is not based in reality. Most programs will never get there.

You know why you are getting mad? Because I am right, it is okay. Basketball games SHOULD be an event. Just like Husker football games, for most people, are an event. And I am still not defending Husker basketball, I am not a fan.
I don't live in Omaha and don't claim to know people's motivation for going to the Creighton games. But I do know that I find Big East basketball to be an entertaining product. Perhaps it's only 4th or 5th best in terms of strength-of-conference metrics, but the tempo, the ball movement and movement without the ball, and the general style of play are fun to watch. I think that's been a factor in Villanova's recent tournament success, as their opponents often seem dumbstruck by the fact that Villanova doesn't brainlessly dribble away 2/3 of the shot clock before looking at the basket.
Big East is probably more fun to watch now than 10 years ago...those games 10 years ago, 20 years ago, were brutal blood baths!
I know people's motivations:
1. Students...to have something to do and drink
2. Single dudes...to take single sloots to the game and drink
3. Families...cheap family night out
50% are there to root on the jays as real fans...the rest are there to do something and be seen or see others. There is nothing wrong with that. Think of Husker football games...think how many people are their for the party atmosphere. Thousands!

Creighton also has benefitted from arguably the nation's most loyal AD in Rasmussen. I can't remember the last time a Jays coach in any sport was fired.

Then he nose dives right out of the tournament with perhaps Creighton’s best team ever.
I dont really do the Lexus club/beer garden area stuff (like you said, it’s more of an event), but to be fair we have a suite so I stay up there. Though to be double fair, I haven’t been to a game all year, and if I did go it would only be for the free food and beer.
Yes maybe if you squeaked out an OT win at home over Incarnate Word or Gardner-Webb, the committee might frown on that. Don't think the committee cares whether you beat Providence in regulation or OT.
Having said that, Creighton really, really needs to stop throwing those long inbounds passes into the backcourt that are two points gift-wrapped for the other team.
How are the suites for Jay games? I imagine they are basically just a place to show off to a girl (if you bring one) or to sit and chat and get wasted?
