I alone here really like Duke but I'd like this next coach to have SOME head coaching experience....

Sure he will when programs come knocking for him to be the head man. Even if he wants back at Duke he will have to prove he's head coach material. He's the guy I've been beating the drum for since last year.

This is interesting, all these Duke guys are waiting for K to retire (so are a ton of other people because the guy is an ***) and then they are waiting to see who is named as the new coach.

Capel: He broke a rule of K's...DO NOT TAKE A HC JOB IN THE ACC. I would rule him out.

Collins: Was at one time the golden boy, took a small private strong academic school to the dance and first win ever. Has since fallen off. I would say 25% chance.

Scheyer: He seems to think that if he stats at Duke he will magically be the next coach, I think it is a smart move but in the end I don't think it will be enough. 25%

Johnny Dawkins: 10% chance, think had this been 10 years ago he would have had the job.

Brad Stevens: This is who they want, but they will need K to die and not retire because I can't see K giving his blessing to an "outsider"

Scheyer's only 31 years old, why would he throw away his career at that young age to take the Nebrasketball job?

He can stay at Duke with a cushy assistant job until Coach K retires, and then even if he doesn't get the Duke job, he'll have his pick of better jobs than Nebraska.

I don't think Sheyer has lingered at Duke because he assumes he's the heir apparent. He's only 31 and probably figures (correctly) that he already has a great job. Not sure he would take the NU job, but I have to think he would at least consider it.

It feels pretty doubtful that anyone who has spent their career with an elite east coast team will get real excited about Nebrasketball. I hope I'm wrong.

Chris Collins held exactly the same position at Duke and he took the Northwestern job. Doesn't mean Scheyer would come to Nebraska, but it's a very comparable situation.

Collins was born and raised in the north Chicago suburbs, very close to Northwestern, which is a big reason he took the job. His dad is still there too working for the Bulls. I don't think he would have taken the Nebrasketball job.

John is from IL...Lincoln to his hometown is like a 7 hour drive and a 90 minute flight...I would say it is somewhat comparable. But I still don't think John is looking for a HC gig.

Are there actually any rumors that we'll be spending 4 mil per year is are you referring to message board posters spending this money for the AD before we even have a coaching vacancy?

He's from Illinois and is a legend there. He's a midwest guy. Definitely worth a look for Nebraska.

Legend might be a bit strong. Ben Wilson, is a basketball legend in IL. Isiah Thomas is a basketball legend in IL...Scheyer is not.

Derrick Rose, Quinn Buckner, Q Richardson, Livingston...Come on. KG, even though he only played one year of HS ball in the state is a legend...

Shoot, Doug Collins is a legend and his son is probably one too...

Yeah, all you said was Coach K is an ***. I mean, TECHNICALLY that's not bad about Scheyer or Duke! I'd take Scheyer, what the hell. I know nothing about him except he'd probably still be the best player on our team if we could suit him up.

Definitely NOT a legend in Illinois (Illinois native here) as he chose to leave the state to go to Duke, as opposed to staying home to play at Illinois.

Barry Collier is the AD for his alma mater. He gave Brad Stevens his first head coaching job. I'd say things worked out well for him.

You forgot to add he took the Butler AD job before he was going to let go at Nebraska...

Agreed, big time. Some of those guys don't get it, if they stayed home, what stars they would be.
