bye bye Puerto Rico.. leaving the island in 2 days, I will miss some of it..

after a little layover in West Palm Beach, I have to figure out a new home.

Prefer a No Income Tax State, and considering:

Tampa Bay, FL
Nashville, TN
Austin, TX
Las Vegas, NV
Cheyenne, WY (but can't be serious about going there)
Seattle WA?

Curious what others think.. or if you have lived any of these places and like or dislike it etc.

I'm looking for another Omaha (good schools, economy) but with nicer weather and more stuff to do.

I hear Nashville and Austin are amazing. I grew up in Florida but I've only been to Tampa like twice. I don't know how much I'd actually like living in Las Vegas, but it could be pretty cool.

Seattle would be dope. Cheyenne would...not.

I would do Cheyenne (or Any Town, WY) any day over Seattle. I go to Seattle every year to see family, but it is absolutely no place I'd ever want to live. Liberals run wild, traffic nightmares, everybody walks around in their jammies with purple hair, needles everywhere, crumbling infrastructure, strip mall after strip mall, etc. It's a shame that the tree-huggers don't hug their trees more.

As far as Tennessee goes, the further east, the better it gets.

If you choose Austin, you have a great Mexican restaurant waiting for you!!

Nashville is good. Lot to do. Housing market is crazy though. Many people I know who work there commute 60 plus minutes each way.

Housing market is insane in a lot of places. I had a job promotion offer in Denver about 5-6 months ago, 5 minutes on Zillow and I was like, yeah the raise isn't enough to offset the cost of the house, pass. Then they said live anywhere in Colorado if that would sweeten the pot, but commuting in the mountains seemed like a horrible idea. Bottom line, housing prices are freaking insane.

Not considering anything in the mountains of Arizona?

I went through Austin a couple years ago, I think it took a day just to get through it! Have a former student there, he is young and loves it. I spent a weekend one night in Seattle. Oregon is going way too liberal for the wife and I.

We are actually in somewhat the same boat as we try to think where we want to live the last year's of our lives. It will be interesting to see where this goes. Tennessee interests me for some reason.

Austin is growing at a rate that exceeded the infrastructure and the traffic is miserable.

I loved San Antonio and San Marcos. College Station is nice too.

Couer d'Alene, ID
Any place in WY or MT
Eastern TN
Flagstaff, AZ

Couer d'Alene and Spokane are basically connected, so I agree.

MT only has Grand Islands and Kearneys (Bozeman and Missoula) and the only place worth living in WY is Jackson Hole but "normal" people can't afford it.

And Flagstaff fits the bill, but is a little too far away from the ocean and year round recreational diversity in my opinion.

Good additions!

Spokane WA

Asheville NC

Auckland NZ

Year round recreation with great diversity in those 5 spots!

I'm not too sure about Spokane being too terribly diverse. A number of reports of white nationalists polluting that area with their propaganda.

Of the OP I would consider Austin or Nashville. Nashville is pretty pricey. Agree prob with Austin is infrastructure, not easy to build the roads, but some nice burbs around Austin. DFW area is nice.

Diverse in the recreation area.... Hunting fishing floating skiing ocean 6 hours away and freshwater lakes close. But the homo sapien diversity is about the same as Omaha.

Depends on what your fancy is. Buffalo is a cool town but its small. Lots of outdoor stuff to do there and the winters are actually usually pretty mild. Southern BlackHills of South Dakota are a great place. Pretty mild winters. Lots of new things going on for restaurants in Custer from transplanted former city dwelling chefs.

Given your choices and the weather desire, you're only option is probably either Tampa or southern Texas.

I agree... I should have said " no cities of size worth living in in WY other than Jackson Hole". There are a dozen or so north plattes/scottsbluffs in WY that are charming and close enough to the mountains.

FL has no state income tax. Live up north of here. North of Fort Pierce.

And Florida gets a lot of rain. Not like the WC, which is expensive right now, and is being drained Colorado River down.

I grew up in Vero. It's nice, but you have to have money to really enjoy it, and holy hell it gets hot and the sun will burn your *** up.

Other than that, and the weird mixture of old New Yorkers, rednecks, Southern racism, and bizarre politics, it's great!
