Lack of depth excuse

I hear this from announcers a lot when the 2nd string/bench players don't produce. Isn't it the coaches responsibility to recruit good and develop players to prepare like they are the starters? I can only defend if injuries crippled a team at a certain position and down to your 4th string. Maybe, I have the 90s football mindset when 5th string running back Jay Sims would come in and rush for 100 yards and was the weightlifter of the year.

It is NOT an excuse. It's a fact and that lies on Miles. I will note that a guy (who can shoot) who they thought would play a bunch this year went out in the pre-season with a season ending injury. That said, we've failed to recruit enough size to deal with the B1G. We were razor thin on depth and it cost us games before Cope went down. Thor played his *** off but he has trouble scoring. ONE more guy who could knock down a 3 would have helped immensely last night.

I think miles should have done better trying to convince, Jacobson, morrow, Horne, and a couple others to sta, .thats your bench. To me a lot of that is on miles

I posted it multiple times at the time. Jacobsen was going to hurt worse than Morrow. Morrow does't play much for Marquette. I've watched a few of their games and he's not a factor. Jacobsen on the other hand would have helped us immensely these past 2 years allowing Roby to play the 4 more. You put Jacobsen in there instead of Heiman and Borchardt off the bench and you suddenly would have had a reasonably good top 7. Obviously the injury to Copeland magnifies what Jacobsen could have done this year as a senior and Jacobsen hustled.

No mistake really. Morrow would have helped this team too. Horne I think was too lazy to have been a factor. IF somebody could have lit a fire under his *** his shooting might have helped but he was a liability on D.

Just found Horne is averaging 9 PPG and 4.4 rebounds for Tulsa. His season high was 17 against Tulsa and he's shooting >50% from 3.......yeah I would say he would have helped at 6'7".

this is a good point. I think Morrow isn't cut out to be a really effective bench player, whereas Jacobsen is a guy who fits perfectly on a bench and who can fill a number of roles and even start if needed. To me, Morrow was always a guy who needed minutes and reps to be productive and the right cast around him. In some ways, I can see why P5 schools wanted him, but can also see why he should have gone to a lower level conference and gotten 30+ minutes a game to develop his handle and shooting
