If you are talking about Johnny Carson, yes he was a fiji, but he was from Norfolk, and when I was in school, it was said he paid for the facade on the fiji house which, at the time was limestone or sandstone, I think
You are likely correct but while I was living at the Fiji house on “R” street, there was always those contradictions whether Johnny was from Norfolk
or Columbus. Truth probably he lived in both little
towns. He had Mom Minier on the Johnny Carson Show several times & she was wittier than he was.
Are you aware that UNL administration has booted the Fijis off campus after more than 100 years!!

wasn't aware of that, but there was a special show once on pbs, I think, that showed him going back to Norfolk and visiting his mom and showing where he lived and the actual car he drove around and he went to a Norfolk HS football game and had a maroon sweater with an N on it (Norfolk HS colors) as he was a cheerleader in HS there, from what they said, So, he definitely went to NHS, but you may be right about Columbus as a youngster

might be able to find that show on youtube, it was pretty entertaining

I was on the Johnny Show with my date at the
time (Barnard girl from Dallas). Asked to
volunteer from the audience. We literally jumped
on the stage with Olivia deHavilland. What memories. Not sure but I think maybe Johnny was born in Norfolk but lived for awhile in Columbus: of course both towns claimed him. Do you remember his first TV show?

yes, I do remember it. I remember Who Do You Trust, I think was the show he was on just before the Tonight Show. I used to come home from grade school and watch it after school. I saw his last show in 1962 and remember the audience yelling don't go. Then in 1992, I saw his last Tonight show on tv. RIP JC. I think he was born, though, in corning, iowa, poor guy, and I know he used to talk about visiting his uncle's farm there and described how he, literally, could hear the corn grow on a still day

Who Do You Trust?

This is fantastic because I read they didn't film these hardly at all. And it was filmed as they didn't have video tape back then. And around then, they did a different process called kinescope where they recorded the tv monitor with regular movie film, so the quality wasn't great, but they didn't preserve many of the shows or store them, so not many are around. At least that's what I read.

Born in Corning then lived in Avoca, Clarinda, and Red Oak. Moved to Norfolk at the age of eight. Graduated from Norfolk High then hitchhiked his way to Holloywood. Now you know the rest of the story!
