Exactly! I loved Hogan's Heroes as a kid, but when talking about it with friends as an adult we were trying to imagine the pitch to the network executives - "so, we've got these guys in German POW camp, who could escape, but choose not to, and get this, it's going to be a comedy!" Was the first idea a concentration camp, but then they scaled it back to a POW camp?

I think "Lost" fits into that category. Watched the first episode, and was already wondering who came up with that ridiculous plot. I think I got 3-4 episodes in before I quit. For a remote island, it sure had a lot of secret vaults/other groups/wires/etc. hanging around. And the final episode, were they supposed to all be dead in purgatory or something? Dumb.

Though I enjoyed the first four seasons or so, "The Walking Dead" obviously asks people to suspend a huge amount of belief (like, ALL belief). At least "28 Days Later" had zombies that were essentially people with rabies who could die of hunger eventually. TWD has half-torso skeletons grabbing people. Some are so slow that a single person can take out 30 without help, but then how did so many characters bite the dust? You can literally walk away from them without being caught. Ever since they found Alexandria the series has been massively stupid.

Not precisely on-topic, but The Simpsons has to be the most unlikely story of tv series endurance of all time. This December it will have been on in prime time for 30 years. Funny as it was, who would have guessed that when it debuted?

Comedies are basically designed to be stupid and outside of reality. Heard a psychologist say that people tuned it to Gilligan every week to see who would finally kill him for continuing to ruin their chance to get off the island.

I like the fact that MASH ran for 11 seasons, while the actual Korean War lasted 3 years. Hell, no wonder Klinger was so anxious to get home!

If I remember an article I read once, I believe it was only planned to be a 1 season run and fill a spot they had open. They were also surprised the gal who played Mrs. Howell even accepted the role.

From Wiki...
  • Natalie Schafer is "Lovey" Wentworth Howell, Thurston's wife, whom he affectionately called "Lovey". Schafer had it written into her contract that no close-ups would be made of her, but after a while in the series it was forgotten. Schafer was 63 when the pilot was shot, although reportedly no one on the set or in the cast knew her real age and she refused to divulge it. Originally, she only accepted the role because the pilot was filmed on location in Hawaii. She looked at the job as nothing more than a free vacation, as she was convinced that a show this silly would "never go

massively stupid

THIS!

Humans are very proficient at killing large numbers of other humans. Ultra-slow, stupid zombies would be dealt with quickly. One M1 Abrams with a boombox and some clear PVC tubing (fuel siphon) could retake Atlanta. The only real question would be what songs to put on the cassette? (Animals "We Gotta Get out of This Place", Led Zeppelin "Achilles Last Stand", MGMT "Me and Michael" and Bestie Boys "Looking down the Barrel of a Gun" would make my zombie killing mixed tape)

Cool facts about the M1:
- can use nearly any fuel (.6 MPG!)
- has a bad *** ma deuce machine gun
- has 60 tons of crushing power

Agree on Walking Dead. Would have been good as a limited run mini series.

Only in zombie world can you have corpses that move but lawns that are still perfectly manicured after 2 years.

Gas doesn’t age and go bad but a little kid ages 10 years over the two years that unfold on screen.

Why are all of the cars clean but Daryl’s hair is dirty?

How come they are always looking for food yet there are people who remain fat?
