I don't know if he was first, but I think Bob Churchich had a 2,000 yard season.

Tagge is correct. Tag's threw for 2019 yards in 1971. Patrick threw for 1449 in '67

Devaney always said he never liked throwing the ball much but he said he learned a thing or two from Tom..Laughing

Churchich never threw for over 2000 yards in a season. His best season was in 1966 when he threw for 1136 yards. He might had been the first Husker QB to throw for over 2000 yards in a career (2484).
The career mark is probably what I was thinking of. Thanks again for the trivia!

Your welcome. Thanks for playing along. I have quite a bit of fun with this. Research can be a little bit of work though. BTW, in a OWH interview a few years ago, Churchich was still lamenting about the 1965 season. All the Huskers had to do is beat Alabama in the Orange Bowl and they win the National Title. Didn't happen. Huskers got beat rather handedly by the Tide.

Frank Solich has a great kickoff return and injured his knee during the return and never return..

We lost 39-28 and really were never in it. Wasn't as bad as the next year, tho, where a Stabler led Bama team routed us 34-7. Kenny Stabler went on to have a pretty good pro career.

I think Devaney used to say something along the lines of "Only three things can happen when you throw the ball and two of them are bad."
