Ugh. The roughing the passer on Brady is awful. Can we PLEASE put these refs (and rules) in their place????????????

Agree with the title of the thread. But there were a lot of examples that went against both teams. Chiefs DB’s were holding like crazy and the pats DB’s were called for PI a few times that it shouldn’t have been called. Then there was the obvious Rams no PI play. I’m sure it’s difficult to officiate the game but it just seems like there is a lot of inconsistency.

Blah blah blah... I wanted New England and the Saints to win.

It's getting bad. Roger needs to do something. The Saints belong in the Super Bowl and everyone knows it. And I'm a Birds fan who doesn't like Sean Payton.

We expect the refs to be perfect, but it’s damn hard to do their jobs. They are paid less in the NFL than the other big leagues (granted they do far fewer games) and get 95-96% of calls right. Show me a NFL player or coach, who get paid far more executing at a 95% success rate.

No excuse for what we saw today.

But then they gave the chiefs a huge make up call on the same drive...Gronk was raped on a 20 yard route and the refs ate the flag on purpose. We all wanted the chiefs to win, but the patriots are the better coached team....I think the chiefs had equal or better players at nearly every position, including qb...but the patriots were tougher. For example...on the 4th and 1, when patriots had the ball indie the 15 with 3 minute left...the chiefs best d'lineman limped off the field, under his own power...patriots smash through for a td on the next play. Since when do you leave the field on 4th and 1 with the super bowl on the line...that type of player wouldn't be on the patriots.

“All considered, the game was called well”. This may have been the worst officiated NFL game I have ever seen, an abomination. Definitely not “called well”, by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah, what calls exactly?

Roger gets paid to be a pawn for the owners. He has driven this sport in a poor direction and I’m not sure it’s reversible. Sports like the NBA are gaining on the NFL and the NBA officiating is even worse IMO. But that’s another topic
The NFL is not the same sport anymore neither is college with the inconsistency in officiating and application of rules from week to week, hell, even quarter to quarter today with these crews

I doubt they're too worried about it. They're too busy lawyering up for the for lawsuits and big money windfall.

Lol. Yeah, can somebody please get this brand new phenomenon know as the human element out the game please? After you take care of that, how about you see if you can get the outcome of the 1994 National Championship game changed too.

In the CFL, any penalty can be challenged. We need that. No excuse for the **** we saw today. These are supposedly the two BEST crews.
Unfortunately, replay in that situation imo, will probably side with the officials so they don't look bad. They belong to the same "club" and union.

However, it's also possible on the flip side, that it would be beneficial. If overturned, probably not talking about it the day after like now.

Don't have a dog in the fight. Look on the bright side, without the blown calls our streak of Superbowl participants ends.

On that Rams PI play, u are forgetting that the refs also gave the Saints a break by not calling the facemask on Goff which would gave prob given them a td instead of a FG which would gave made NO have to score a td to win instead if just getting a fg to tie. No guarantee they score a td even w the penalty had it been called.
Plus the refs gave NO a makeup call in OT on a ticky tack PI that extended their drive.

Wow. That was the roughing the passer call? Mercy. That was bad.
Yes it was... people are forgetting to mention that the exact same thing happened to Mahomes in the 3rd, and nothing was called. The problem lies in the inconsistency of the Refs, not each individual call. Every reviewed "catch" down the stretch was an incompletion, yet the amazing one handed "attempt" at a catch by Hogan, was not a catch. Then reviewed and ruled complete. Based on what criteria? You can't pick and choose what is and isn't a catch. That ball was clearly rubbing the grass just like every other review of an incompletion.

Here is the no call on Mahomes. It is the 3rd and 18 play on the bottom... just bulls*** they make that call on Brady when they did.

***Please note I am not saying it should of been called here either, I'm saying both should of been no calls.

Sammy Watkins was open because of offensive PI that wasn't called, they kept flagging that Jackson for bogus PIs as well. I am not a fan of either team, but the calls evened out in that game. Each team could ***** about something if they wanted to.

The officiating is better than it has ever been, due to instant replay and high-definition television. In all sports.

It’s been said time and time again, but I guess it bears repeating- the reason you THINK the officiating is bad is because every game you care about is now on TV, in amazing high-definition.

What is ruining sports is the fan’s unrealistic expectation that officiating be perfect every time. It ain’t gonna happen.

Oh, and had the roughing the passer in KC not been called, it still would have been 3rd and 7, a down the Patriots converted all night. The play that decided the game the officials got right - Dee Ford lined up offiside. He he moves back 8 inches the Chiefs are on their way to the Super Bowl.

The patriots wide receiver lined up offsides on late on the same drive no call!

Let the coaches challenge certain penalties, but they would lose a timeout if unsuccessful. PI and Roughing. Not so much on holding. Holding happens on most every play in the trenches. But then again, what if a DB is holding downfield?

On the Brady PI the ref that threw the flag was behind Brady and saw a defender take a swipe at his head and looked like it caught face mask first. He tossed a flag. It is what it is.

If you'd like a detailed list of all the mist calls the Chiefs got I'm sure Patirots fans could break it down for you. Like the offensive PI on the pick play the set up Watkins catch for the TD late in the game. The receiver didn't even try to sell it as incidental contact, he straight up blocked the guy.

End of the day, the refs didn't cost either team this game. It was equally terribly called from both sides.

Every reviewed play was eventually given the correct outcome. The roughing on Brady was garbage but there were a lot of bad calls that went both ways. The Offensive PI that wasn’t called on KC on the swing pass to the running back that went for 50 yards and resulted in the KC’s last TD was far more egregious than the pick play called on the patriots. KC’s defensive backs were getting away with holding that was being called on the New England backs. It evened out. Neither side can complain. The Chiefs should have tried getting a third down stop if they wanted to win.
