I grew up in the SW Nebraska area, not far from the Kansas border and the place to go was the Stage Coach in Norton. Good place to get in trouble without trying.

…but I live out of state and can't/don't keep up...it seems over the past 20 years many small schools have consolidated and I have no idea who is who...I was driving by Hebron and Geneva a whileback ...what schools are they now?

Special interest....where do the Campbell kids(where I used to teach /coach 40 years ago) go?

Thanks and I'll hang up!

I wanna party with this bunch!

We had a fighter plane crash 3 miles from where I live according to my dad. I think they flew out of bruning. I think the bombers were based out of Fairmont.

I do know this. Many buses carrying officers made it to Deshler @ the hotel Deshler for whiskey and dancing. Sounds like the females were good hostesses IF you catch my drift. While the cat's away ( off to war) the mice will play.
Yes fighter base was the Bruning base, they were P47 thunderbolts, fairmont was the bomber base not sure about Harvard, the runways were longer at fairmont, although you could land a bomber at Bruning if necessary. If you look at the hangers at fairmont you can see they cut out part of the door way to fit a B29. Small face. At the time colonel tibits picked part of his crew from fairmont for the enola gay

No kidding. I did not know that about the enola gay crew. Awesome as I love history. For some reason i think Harvard was fighters to or a mix. This is fun

I hate to say that in my sinful youth I did too
The A frame liquid store in Belleville ks, you could buy hard liquor there instead of 3.2 beer. Even though we were only 17-18 the guy didn't care we were from Nebraska, he wasn't going to get into trouble, cuz we sure as hell were going to talk if we got caught. Yeah the good ole days, ya sure couldn't do that today

I didn't think you could buy liquor unless at a club. But maybe that was liquor by the drink

Pretty amazing the number of reinke pivots I see out here in Montana! Crazy that no one out here knows where they come from.... My stomping grounds as well in 32 county, start of the Alphabet towns: Alexandria.
where at in Montana? I've always loved Wyoming and Montana.

What is this Stage Coach and what did they have that you had to leave Nebraska to get?

Yes only club you could buy it by the drink, but liquid stores you could buy hard liquor and regular beer, a bar/tavern you could only buy 3.2 beer
I'll never forget walking out of the liquor store on the south side of Fairmont, before four lane, with a case of beer and a state patrolman was coming in All you could do iskeeis walking and stay cool. It might have helped that I always stopped in there and bought something and gas to and from college. They knew me on a first name basis.

Those were the days

My nephews keep telling me there's no way we could do the stuff we did back then in today's world. Like pheasant hunting before school and leave you shotgun in your vehicle looked up in the school parking lot. And having a kegger on a dirt road

I was on the tail end of it..... Dirty John would chase us away as we would hang out hoping to catch a glimpse of some exotic beauty from another town!

I once got pulled over by the county sheriff in my home town in broad daylight. One of my buddies in the back seat had a 12 pack sitting between his feet. The guy just looked in the back, looked at me and said "I think you boys better go home now" and winked.

Lol he was a hell of a bar tender but you didn't buy a mixed drink while he was tending bar cuz he'd stir it with his finger, yes I actually witnessed him doing it

Back in the good ol days, our town cop would pull people over and say I think it's time you boys went home. IF you did all things were good for another week. IF you didn't, he would radio the state patrol

The Bruning Air base has been a feed lot for probably 30 years.... But there was so much concrete up there, away from the POLICE that we went there and had drag races, keggers, stupid bb gun wars, trap shooting, and sled races (car hoods pulled by cars). How did I survive!
