Blue Blood programs and time to elite status. In parenthesis is the number of wins the program had in the 3 years prior to being hired. Jury is out for some - Harbaugh and Herman. Urban took over a team already performing at an elite level so I did not include him. Kept the list to the 90s onward.

Of the 10 coaches listed (not including Frost)

6/10 - elite season in year 2
9-10/10 - elite season by year 3 - can debate Mack Brown

6/9 had won a national title by yr 3 (excluded Herman)
7/9 had played for a national title (above 6 + Kelly)

not a lot of backsliding noted in years 3 and 4 as was previously contended in another thread

I agree, and have posted something similar to this about a year ago. Many on here didn't agree. If a coach does not achieve success by year 3( NC, Conf Championship, Top 10 ranking, ect) the odds of them having success greatly reduces. It isn't impossible but becomes more unlikely.
So when some on here were saying that Frost needs 5, 6 7 years to find success it isn't true. If Frost doesn't have success by next year or 2, odds are he isn't going too.
Basically it comes down to good coaches know how to coach, no matter the situation or the circumstances, no matter the players. It doesn't take them long to get everything in sync. This coming year is going to be very telling if Frost is on the championship level coach path.

Since when has Nebraska followed the formula of warm climate schools...we need an advantage to win big again...we have a great fan base but not great enough to overcome lack of talent within 500 miles...we ran the spreadish option because it allowed us to focus recruiting efforts on qb, rb, ol and then defense, while skimping a bit on some of the other skill positions...we could also bring in a rb at qb and be successful and Tfrazier and Sfrost would have been complete failures in any system today. Scott is going to have to figure out how to balance the playing field or we are just going to be good.

Dabo went 10-4 in year 3. 11-2 years 4 and 5.

I don’t know what “made it” means. But for the most part good coaches can win.
