I would always fight the ticket, even without an attorney, and consider making your daughter handle it. I remember being an 18 year old and going there to fight a ticket with no attorney and being approached by the prosecutor, who ended up helping me, he reduced the speed by 5mph in exchange for a no contest plea. It was a scary experience and I had no idea what was going on at the time, but it was a good learning experience and in that way, maybe there is a silver lining to it.Ok, my 20 year old daughter got a speeding ticket (in Nebraska as a resident). She is on our insurance but she pays her portion of the bill. She was speeding, no doubt. The cost of the ticket is not a big factor to me as she is going to pay for that. I am more worried about insurance going up, and how it will effect the rest of the family's insurance cost.
Need advice as I have never gotten a speeding ticket. What should I tell her to do regarding the ticket?
We can't afford an attorney (well I can but she can't
- just pay it and pay the increase in car insurance? My guess is that will be a huge increase.
- Go to court date & hope the LEO doesn't show (automatic not guilty right?)
- Go to court and ask them to drop it down to a non moving citation. (is that possible 80mph in a 65 zone)
- Are there classes she can take that will allow the ticket to never show up on her record?
& daddy isn't going to fix it for her) so this is all on her. Just trying to find all her options and leave it all up to her.
This is her first speeding citation and our families first ever.
Thanks
Not sure what will happen with the rates, but pretty much most insurance companies are looking for ways to charge more.
