Are you disparaging McCathorn? Or me?
Not disparaging - just puzzled by your "real QB" boundary. It sort of reminds me of a recent theme that seems to go something like, "Who cares if Bunch transfers? He's not that good anyway, and we've got Noah Vedral!"

That was Earl Everett, actually. He later moved to wingback, but was a QB for a couple of years.
FYI: The first African-American football player to start a game at QB for NU was Nate Mason. 1981 Florida State. Then game Gill. Turner's first ever start came against Colorado in 1981. Gill started the second half of the Auburn game in '81 with Mark Mauer starting the game at QB.

Everett was never a starter, but he was #2 to Dave Humm for a while before moving to wingback.

Earl Everett huh. I don't remember him. Remember Humm for sure. The wingbacks I remember from those years is of course Johnny R. and Donny Westbrook. Bobby Newcombe reminded me a lot of Westbrook. BTW, how did we go from women's volleyball to football? Oh wait, I almost forgot. This is Nebraska!

Unfortunately Everett was probably best-known for relieving an injured Humm at Wisconsin in 1974 - a game the Huskers lost. Good athlete but not a good fit for the offense NU was running at the time. Vince Ferragamo was sitting out that season as a transfer, so Everett's days as a QB were already numbered.

At that time our offense was more of a pro style and earl Everett as a dual probably more run than pass, really good athlete. Wasn't he from a Omaha high school?
