Why does Frost let a player verbally commit if concerned about their grades?

Last year, we had at least 1 player from Nebraska that Nebraska pulled an offer because of his grades. Things were dicey with Mo this year. This year, I am hearing of 2 players that verbally committed with 1 de-committing recently that have grades issues. Maybe tell those kids if your GPA/ACT is at a certain level after the end of the first senior year semester you can verbally commit at that time. Speaking of grades, were there any issues in 2018? No bowl games for the NCAA to suspend anyone. The staff must have done a good job making sure everyone qualified. Although, I did hear had some kids skipping classes occasionally and being sent to the Freshman locker rooms.

You said it yourself. Mo Washington. Don’t need to say anything else.

If Mo didn't have grade issues, he'd probably be somewhere like Bama or Oklahoma right now instead of Nebraska. Until we start winning and can recruit at the level of those programs, we'll have to take some academic risks.

Doesn't hurt to take the commitment, as long as the coaches don't put all their eggs in that basket. Keep looking so you have someone else signing in case that guy doesn't end up qualifying.

Taking their commitment and actually allowing them to sign a letter of intent are two very different things. They don't get their grades cleared up or on track, they don't get sent a LOI to sign.

I would think the kids that are in this particular academic zone have been informed as to what the agreement is with respect to what they need to do the be able to sign a LOI.

Of course it is all dependent on getting the grades, but what do you do if the kid in question gets the necessary grades? You will have to let one go at the last minute.

This is exactly why Frost and Fair parted ways. There was a chance he wouldn't get in, so Frost made the call to release him from the commitment. That way he would be sure to be under the limit, he could recruit other players without the cloud of Fair being in the mix.
