I have no problem saying he’s the most complete back in the BIG. He’s more elusive and has more top end speed than Taylor.
Frost compared him to Royce Freeman. Not a bad guy to be compared to.
Yup! I think he has a future in the NFL as a serviceable back, just unlikely to be a franchise star. Hats off to him; he went through a lot of coaching changes and really changed his body around and pushed himself, and now look at how he finished. Hell of a good story.
Hopefully he gets a combine invite, gets drafted late rounds, and Frost/Duval get credit for getting him to the NFL.
I bet he earns a starting roster spot as more NFL teams are running spread offenses. Ziggy also has good hands. His size and speed as well as being able to catch the ball.
I think that is totally in the cards. I think he'll at least make a practice squad, might even get to an active roster on a team that needs a serviceable back ready to play a few downs per series.
I was also thinking of teams that use players in a plug-and-play system, like New England. A team like that would totally use Ziggy.
Heck you only need one coach to like you and you are on a team. Ideally you want to get on a team and earn a second contract. Then leave after about 6 years in the league with your pension and your knees. Jump into a low position on a coaching staff and go from there.
He's an NFL back in some capacity. There are plenty of guys that make a living there who weren't anything special in college. The problem is sticking around long enough to get a pension.
Yup! And avoid a life-shattering injury or getting addicted to painkillers.
I looked into NFL pension specifics once, but can't remember the details. I don't think the pension money starts being paid until a certain age, like 55. However, assuming someone makes $4M during six years in the league and instead of buying Escalades and jewelery sets up a financial plan, he could live on that and do the low-level coaching basically for fun. Ozigbo doesn't strike me as the type to squander his money.
Really, 55? For some reason I thought it started right when you retired IF you did 4 years in the league...I might be totally wrong.
Baseball did have a weird one...it was innings played I think? Here is some of the baseball one: "They earn lifetime health benefits after playing only one day in the league and they qualify for a pension after only 43 game days."

NFL players can start drawing from their pension at 45 at a reduced rate. Full pensions start at 65.
Ozigbo is awesome. If he gets a combine invite and can run in the mid 4.5s, I bet he gets drafted.
Devine is on my list of all time favorite Huskers. When this program gets where it wants to be, it'll be built on the hardwork of people like him.
It’s already starting. I bet by the time April comes around Oz is high on most teams draft boards. I probably haven’t been this high on a Husker back for the NFL in 20 years. Size, speed, vision, and I thought did a great job at protecting the ball this last year. I think husker fans are jaded about him because of his prior years.
I was a little higher on Helu. Are you including Green in that last 20 years? He was in the '98 draft, right? Regardless, Ozigbo has a real shot to do some damage in the league. Very deserving of a shot.
There is zero chance he played at 235. He might be that weight at the combine though.
A friend of mine just missed being fully vested as he needed the equivalent of 8 full seasons to qualify. Came up less than 1/4 season short. He's not upset about what he did qualify for however.
Green was the guy I was referring to as the last back. 20 years ago I guess but come draft time it will be 21 years. Dam where did the time go
Ozigbo shocked everyone with the way he grabbed that job and blew up this year. Definitely the quickest and most dynamic has been in his career. Hope he gets a senior bowl invite and can show what he's all about.
