So you agree there should not be an 8 team playoff?
Or you think even a five loss pitt team deserves a shot at the NC for winning their conference?
Clemson and OSU would not deserve a shot at all in that scenario.

Again I ask, you do realize in an 8 team playoff Georgia would be in, right? Even though you say they dont deserve it?

Clemson and Ohio St and Georgia would get an at large berth if the committee see’s fit..

Could have, should be would have but didn’t.. beating teams like Austin Peay and Massachusetts and Middle Tennessee st looks so impressive...
I didn’t see any of those powerhouses on Notre Dame schedule..LaughingLaughing

No but they do have a common opponent both teams played at home...ND scraped by Vanderbilt 22-17 while UGA cruised against them 41-13.

?? If not those 6 than who?
Ucf. Lsu. Michigan. All deserve consideration.
The point, cdmx, is that going to 6 solves nothing. Nothing.
The playoff system is a joke and expanding it would only make it moreso a joke. So many undeserving teams get in, and the regular season becomes meaningless.

Agreed.
You realize in an 8 team playoff, georgia would in fact get that second chance you (rightfully) claim they dont deserve?

Yep. They're the best of the 2 loss teams, would get an at large bid. Current field, then Ohio State, Washington, UCF, Georgia.

And yet, under the formula you propose, georgia could literally lose to austin peay and still get in as long as they win the sec.
Id stop laughing at others if I was you.

Not with 100% certainty no, it is college football, but if it's your money who do you put it on in UGA vs ND or UGA vs OU matchups?

That's meaningless. I DO put my money on teams every week and I can say with 100 percent certainty that even the best handicappers in the world are wrong 40 to 45 percent of the time. Underdogs win every week.

If they beat a unbeaten Alabama in the CCG they earned it and they would have to lose to a team like Ausin peay they have haven’t..
Akron isn’t a FCS school like Austin Peay too..

So no matter who someone loses to, or how many times, they deserve a shot at the NC as long as they win their conference. I, and just about everyone else in America, respectfully disagree.
Question....do you mean champs of all conferences get at large, or just power five?

Ok, i thought youd say that. So explain this to me:
If a conference champ from a power five conference loses all their non conference games, including to a middle of the road MAC school, why does that conference deserve an automatic bid? Because they were arbitrarily deemed "power" before the season??

Shouldnt the Mac get an automatic bid? Wouldnt the mac be considered better than the big ten if a 5 win mac team beat the big 10 conference champ?

Your whole premise is wrong. There is a middle ground here that can help make everyone happy:
You cant have a shot to win the NC unless you win your conference, which protects conference integrity (youd agree? I would)
You cant have a shot to win the NC if you lose 2 or more games, or if you lose 2 games with 1 being to a non power five school or something like that (protects regular season integrity and rewards difficult conferences while not giving weak conferences a pass).
Under these conditions it will be impossibe to find 8 worthy teams, as it should be.

Believe me I understand your point but here is mine why have and play a CCG then??and not care who wins those 5 CCG? they’re a elimination game..

My middle ground is to either expand to 8 and have one slot for the most deserving non P5 or depending on how you categorize ND then two slots.

Otherwise expand to 6 and have 2 play-in games with those slots in the play in.

Notre Dame is the first non-Nike school to be in the playoff

UGA is 5 and OSU 6 — do we really think that had OU lost, the committee would have had the balls to put UGA in over OSU?

Under the current model, or the old model, they are elimination games already.
Dont win your conference? Eliminated.
Lose three games? Eliminated.
Simple. Easy.
In an eight team playoff non conference champs will have equal chance as conference champs. Hell there would be years the sec has three teams in.

All the more reason to limit it to 4 teams...anything else is an upset. Lot's of people had Alabama blowing out OU in the Sugar Bowl the year OU put it to them also.
If we mist keep a playoff I fully agree 4 teams should be it.
I would simply change that to be considered for the four teams you must win your conference.

Who gets the extra spots?
Point being its subjective no matter how you spin it. And going to 8 will lead to non conference champs having equal shot as conference champs.

that's the extra spots one where it's like making group stage in the world cup.

I like the 6 team playoff better - (my latest formula) best 4 P5 champions, ND or 5th best P5 champion, plus best team not in P5 and not ND

That is under your scenario... Most like only 2 teams from a conference would get in the Champion from the CCG and a at- large berth...

I nust dont think there would be eight worthy teams every year. Some yeras there isnt four.
Youre going to have those years a three team conference could happen. No perfect system, but id rather not have that situation play out, or a three loss team with a shot. Which could happen.

How do you decide if ND or 5th power is worhty?
What if the not power five conference has a best team with two losses? Ucf is not the norm. At all.

We all know Bookie is worth at least 21 points to OU cuz he was going to be the savior here. So there's that factor to consider.

OU is as good as the other two who were clamoring to be #4, I'm fine with it. 3 out of the 4 are perfect, you just cannot complain about 1-3, and OU had a good as gripe as anyone jockeying for #4...seems like it worked out to me.

no team gets in with 2 losses unless there are no other options... then it's a toss up, flip a coin

ND gets in, but doesn’t play in a conference championship game. Yes, undeafeated but one less game. If ND played in the ACC for football, like all other ND sports, would they have beaten Clemson for the right?

8 team playoff, yes, but ESPN says no!

Espn would love an eight team playoff. Guaranteed two sec teams in and some years three.

It has really paid off well for Oklahoma to play in the weak Big 12. Its fun to watch them lose every year in the bowl game

At least they are in a bowl game. Glad you will have some fun ahead...Debbie fans will be having tons of fun WATCHING lots of other's bowl games this year... again.
