Fake punt was a terrible call, no two ways about it. Just goes to show that when it works you're a genius and when it doesn't work (your fake field goal) you're an idiot.
Cuz the game would’ve come down to a last second fg without it? My goodness

I think we are closing the gap with the better Big 10 teams and that's what's important this year. I said 21-17 Iowa before the game so I'm not too surprised. Proud our guys hung around when it looked like we might get boat raced for awhile there. Good luck to Iowa in your bowl! GBR!

I stand by my assertion. If it doesn't work we give them the ball on our own 10 yard line down 28-13. In all likelihood, game over. It smacked of desperation. And perhaps we were desperate at this point and needed a spark. And they damn sure weren't expecting it. But if it didn't work I am 100% certain this board would be full of people lambasting the call and saying that Frost sealed the defeat on that play.

The bolded is one big reason why it was a great call. It sounds like you rather we just give up at that time and concede the game instead of actually trying to win.

The way the game was unfolding in the second half, we needed a spark. If we punt it away they likely march down for another score. Our defense would have been discouraged by our offense’s 3rd straight 3 and out. Something needed to happen.

I assert that if we don’t go down and score but simply punt it again, we lose by double digits.

Disagree. We were 4-7, last game of the year...and there was no reason to believe the defense would stop Iowa.

That call gave us a chance. On the contrary...Ferentz fake FG was moronic at best.

You think that because ours worked and theirs didn't, proving my point.
The fake FG was stupid because there was no need for it. Already up by 15 points, kick the FG and it's a 3 score game. The fake punt was a great call because there was a need to provide a spark-turn the game around.

I still go back to Iowa having 3rd down and two inside the five, and running a pass play followed by a fake FG. The way they were running the ball, that was a strange series. If Iowa had lost this game, I suspect it would be their fans' biggest complaint - and I would agree with them.

From Iowa perspective I agree with this .... if Hiskers punt that ball game over. If Iowa just kicks the FG it is much tougher for Neb to come back. Great call by Frost on FP.

Fake punt delivered a huge shot in the arm. At that point Frost wanted to roll the dice & it paid. KF fake was bizarre. Run the ball on 3rd & 2, if short 4th & 1. With option to try your fake still. Never ever not kick it to put yourself up 3 scores. Especially in the second half.

At our own 9 yard line. With our linebacker running the ball. OK, if you say so. I am definitely not going to convince you otherwise.
Element of surprise is often successful.

You’re right, if we don’t make it, there is a ton of pissing and moaning on this board. But the play call itself, under those circumstances, led to a higher degree of success just because of the situation.

Frost thought the risk was worth it. Turns out, it was.

The difference between a win and a loss today, I'm surprised no one has mentioned it. Martinez INT, we started moving the ball with ease on them. That at the least is maybe 3 points if not a TD right there. Meaning end of game at least their FG would at least tie the game sending into OT.

If I were a reporter I would probably be that prick that asked AM the question at the press conference. It was a weird duck of a throw. Not sure if he thought Stan was going to cut off his route or if it just slipped or what. It wasn't even close.

That was the key of the game for us right there as that pick cost us the game. The thought that was going through my head he threw it was, I hope this doesn't cost us the game. Well it did..

We didn’t lose the game on one play. We lost the game by not being able to stop the run. Quit acting like one play cost us a long hard fought game. That’s just stupid

that was it right there, as we started moving the ball pretty easily, he doesn't throw it we get 3 or 7 points from that drive guaranteed. At the time of that drive, their D was starting to get worn down as they were on the field the 2nd half alot!.That was the reason we staring moving the ball at will on them in the 4th. Don't believe me, I challenge you to go back and watch the game again.

You can't say it cost us the game... it cost us time but that is all. If the D gets a stop on 4th and 8 at the end of the game, we have fantastic field position with 40 seconds left to score with a go ahead field goal.

We stop the run today or a number of third down attempts, then we aren’t in that position. You can’t expect perfection to win.

We held them to only 7 points the entire 2nd half until their winning FG. Our D basically owned them the majority of the 2nd half after they scored their last TD The majority of all of their production came in the 1st half and they had the short field on their last TD early in the second half. As I said, I challenge you to go back and watch the game, if you don't believe me.

One thing to consider with the fake punt is that this was guaranteed to be our last game of the year. At that point we were guaranteed to lose unless something happened.
I understand questioning it, but it wasnt a normal situation.
And thats also something theyve worked on since fall practice. That exact one.

Not sure I understand the point of putting the loss on just one play. How many plays did we run today? 65 or 70?

I have no problem saying it was a big play that hurt us. But to say the entire loss comes down to that one play? I disagree. Even if the int doesn’t happen, there’s no guarantee we score.

It’s a team sport with 150 plays between the two teams. Seldom is a game won or lost on just one play.

Hoe Lee Chit, the sun came up today. Anyone take solace in the fact that those who bet on Nebraska won money and those who bet on Iowa lost money? Me neither, but I’m up a few hundred and I’m not an Iowa fan, feels good.
