There are a LOT of jayskers, like 50% of sports going Omaha. They are all over the place. They are season ticket holders at NEB for football and go to Creighton games for basketball. I work with about a dozen of them in just my single floor at the office. I suppose you could say they fall into more the fair weather or casual fan (or lazy as they don't want to drive to Lincoln for a game when there is a perfectly good facility and team downtown).

no such thing as what? Someone who can openly cheer for both teams? I guess I dont really exist then.

And yes, Creighton is down this year, and Nebraska should be able to finally beat them. I have told several people this over the years, I cheer for both teams in mens basketball, and neb in football. When the basketball teams play, I cheer for the team that benefits the most with a win. This year that is the Huskers.

They are young (mostly frosh and sophs playing significant minutes), but they aren't without talent in those young guys, and they will have almost another month to gel before the game. I don't think they are experienced enough to beat the 4 seniors and Roby. But, I can remember more than one time over the years when we were sure the game was in the bag going in, only to get beat (badly). Being at PBA is definitely a plus. I don't know if any of them have played there before.

I respect your choice, but may I ask if you're a Nebraska alumnus? The people that chap my aspect are UNL alumni who don't root for OUR basketball team. You root for both, so good on you.

"Nebrasketball is way better. First time in a decade I’ve been able to say that."

I thinks it's been a lot longer than a decade, probably two decades.

Years of horrible recruiting and hoping and praying that some Euro dudes pan out is going to kill the Jays this season. The only good news for them is that the Big East is horrible this year. I will be shocked if the Jays get to 17 wins. The "run of making the dance only to be humiliated" that the Jays fan so covet it donezo.

I actually thought Creighton looked pretty solid against Ohio State. They always have so much more ball movement than Nebraska ever does on offense. This isn't a gimmee at all.

Every single season this thread and that take is brought up, and every single year it's wrong.....I suppose the odds are at some point it's going to be true, and who knows, maybe it's this year....but I get a lot of entertainment out of Husker hoop fan talking smack about the Bluejay program.

It isn't about "this year" it is about where they are headed...They have LIVED off sons of coaches, and lucky transfers...that is a hard way to build a team.

I am not a Husker hoop fan at all...

By virtue of a AAA farm team in omaha and proximity to KC are we all required to be Royals fan?

I dont care who people root for. Its a free country. That being said, Creighton sucks as does Iowa. As long as CU isnt playing Nebraska though i wish them well as it draws attention to the state and plus boosts the economy.

How about the two kids from Omaha that turned into NBA caliber players?

I don't think we can say much about transfers when two of our best players are Palmer and Copeland this year.

I am not a "we" when it comes to this topic...I am not a Jay or Husker fan when it comes to basketball. I am an Illini fan and they might be the worst team P5 team in the country this year.

I like to ask Jayskers who they root for in baseball and women's volleyball when NU and CU play. If they say NU then they are phony band wagon fans who just pick the school who is traditionally better. I always cheer for NU when they play CU in EVERY sport. Not every sport except for men's basketball.

nope. Born and raised in Omaha, with a brief stint at Northwest Missouri State for college.

And to your question if I was alumni or anything, if I was, dont you think I would cheer for my alma mater regardless? Just like if either school ever plays NWMSU in an exhibition. Im cheering for the Bearcats.

why does it matter who I cheer for in head to heads if I cheer for both other than that?

I like to ask people who whine about Bluejay fans who they want Bluejay fans to root for in football?

If your passionate enough about Nebraska
football to be on a message board for Nebraska football and are not a troll, then I’d consider that fan to be fair weather. It’s fine to root for both local teams when they don’t play, but just becoming a fan of Kansas or Creighton b/c the husker b-ball program has historically been subpar is the definition of fair weather. I bet we’ve got lots of warriors and patriot fans on here. I don’t think warriors fans existed prior to 2011. Now there like a bunch of roaches popping up everywhere.

Of course not...it all counts. It is just gone now. Doug recruited with luck and it worked but like all things that runs out. He can't close with big boys.
Yeh, three games into his 9th year at Creighton, McDermott's finally been exposed as a great big fraud.

Guy must have sold his soul to the devil - keeps recruiting players who just turn out to be good.

Define good?

I get you...you love them. Great. I love the Illini but I am sane enough to realize that they are not on an upward trend. Neither are the jays. They are falling and fast.

I don't love Creighton, and I don't think McDermott is anything more than a very successful mid-major coach. I just don't feel compelled to post laughable nonsense about how his accomplishments at Creighton are nothing more than dumb luck.

Illinois is not falling fast. Their 7 deep is basically 3 newcomers, (2 Fr and 1 JC) 2 So, 1 jr and 1 sr. Underwood is a very good coach, that will play a pressing style of defensive basketball that relates well to Chicago kids.

He took a team at OK St that won 12 games the year before and got them to the NCAA tournament in year one. He scheduled aggressively this year at Illinois, going to Maui and they also drew Notre Dame and Georgetown in the B1G/ACC challenge and Gavitt Games respectively.

If I were an Illini fan, I would be excited about the future and not at all discouraged.

Similarly, for Creighton, their top seven are 3 soph, 2 fr, and 2 jr. They will be fine going forward.

I don’t care who anyone cheers for. I won’t portray that I should be able to make that decision for someone. My emphasis is placed solely on the fact that I hate Creighton athletics regardless of opponent. They’re not Nebraska, and on the occasion they play Nebraska, have proven themselves to be more than capable of beating Nebraska. People are free to like whomever they choose. However, if you cheer for Creighton over Nebraska, I, given that I cheer for Nebraska, would like to reiterate that I hope your team sucks as much as possible.

Nothing personal, and really, it’s no different than I feel about any other school. The fact that they’re in Omaha means nothing to me.
