I was perusing their board to check the water temperature concerning their coaching situation earlier and they are really trying to convince themselves that Les Miles is in. While I wouldn't say it's impossible, I does seem fairly unlikely. I expect a meltdown on par with Tennessee last year when their non splash hire is eventually announced.

Well Les Miles didn't get any traction last year when there were some pretty good job openings so I'd say he should take the Kansas job if it's offered. The problem is he's an old coach now at the end of a good career and probably a little too conventional for today's tastes.
Seth Littrell is that guy. He even started his coaching career at KU. I can't believe KU would go after Miles before Littrell. But he's probably waiting for a better job than KU.

I agree. They need someone with a Frost-like contract, with the understanding from day 1 that it is going to be a long rebuild. It will be interesting to see who Jeff Long hires. He didn't exactly hit it out of the ball park in Arkansas with his hires.

Not sure about that. But, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mangino get a look. He is apparently interested in getting back into coaching.

Funny story about him, apparently when KU won the Orange Bowl he had all the trainers dump out the Gatorade jugs before the end of the game because they were worried the Gatorade bath would give him a heart attack.

I'm no Pelini apologist, but I'd hardly call going 10-4 or 9-4 his whole tenure a losing culture. Talent is probably a better argument, but he still didn't inherit a team bad enough to give him an excuse for how his tenure went.

They had their guy in Mangino, but just didn't want to keep him as the face of their program. Winning looks a whole lot better than losing.

The thing I couldn't understand is why the guy didn't just get his friggin stomach stapled and get started on the road to recovery. He knew the KU admin. didn't like his stature being the face of one of their athletic teams. He could have changed his lot dramatically if he would have just gone under the knife. The guy had the money to probably save his ***, and he apparently refused to do so.
Not an entirely crazy thought. He knows the B12, and always recruited the Kansas JUCO market well, and recruited Texas better when he was in the B12 than in the B10.

Exactly, he was the best thing to happen to Kansas since pepper Rogers. And they found a questionable excuse to get rid of him. Did anyone hear of the real reason he was let go? I recall it was pretty vague

Talked to a former KU football player the other day. He said Les Miles is the guy. I failed to clarify whether that was merely who he wanted, or who the top candidate actually is.
