When you play a 3-4 with a smallish nose and DE's, it will never work.

This team is a 8-9 win unit in a 4-3, with this improved OL play, against this schedule.
Chin sucks and as much as people like Frost might hate to say it, he still sucks if a 3-4 is his only calling card. Need to cut that cord eventually, or we will be mired in a quagmire of mediocrity.

When you have such bad defensive play for the past couple of years with different defensive coordinators, it shows that there is a serious lack of talent on that side of the ball. That's mostly on Pelini in my opinion. He recruited very poorly. Although Riley didn't recruit defensive players well either.
I sadly agree, because I don't think Frost will do it. Unless Chin voluntarily steps down at some point
Kent St, Western Illinois, South Florida, Maryland have all been able to keep Illinois under 35 points. Only 2 teams haven't Minn and Rutgers. We are on pace to let them put up 35. If it wasn't for their mistakes they would probably have 2 or 3 more tds.
Nonsense. Scott did the right thing bringing the entire staff with him, but that doesn't ensure their jobs by any means.
And Chins can always change to a 4-3, but if he's a 3-4 by definition, then he's history, at some point.
It's a Bama style/NFL defense that will NEVER work at Nebraska.
Yeah, you’d think at some point this would become too painful to continue on like this. However, I do agree that SF will never fire Chins. Maybe a coaching alum like McBride will come back and make a “suggestion”. GBR.

They can take shots down field on first and second, because AJ can always pick up the first on 3rd down.

I think people need to give chin a couple years. We dont have the talent at D-line for any scheme imo. I think we give the Davis bros too much credit. They get tossed around pretty good, especially Iast week. Truth is I think the Davis bros would be better OGs.
The defense has sucked for how many years in a row? I mean it isn't an overnight fix. They've gotten better at forcing turnovers as the season has gone along.
I'm fed up with Chinander! We'd be bowling if it weren't for that guy!! We've given up 368 yards on the ground! WTF?!!

Look, there is a pattern here. You saw these kind of scores all season at UCF last year (albeit they were 12-0 haha). I’m just struggling to understand why in the world they think something is all of a sudden going to change. Thank goodness for all the turnovers.

RollingLaughStill blaming Pelini huh? People said we didn't have the talent on offense either. Look at what changing one guy on the offensive line did to our offense. Most people were thinking it would take several years just to have even an average Oline. Well it only took a few weeks with a new center and we already have an above average offensive line. Turns out there was talent all along on our OL. I imagine there's some talent on our defense too although it's in hiding right now due to poor coaching.
This D doesn't have the personal yet. It will be good once it does
Anyone that thinks trying a new dc every year is the answer to building a better defense is dumber than rocks. Defense is about assignment football and discipline. Can’t pick that up in a year especially when these kids haven’t had a defensive coordinator last longer than a year since they’ve been here.
If it can work at Wisconsin then it can damn sure work here. We need the right personnel and some time.
Stability is important and these kids have had none.
Either Davis would be a good inside DT in a 4-3, paired with Daniels or Fair.
Stille and DThomas and others can set the edge in a 4-3 DL too.
In a 3-4? No chance, and Daniels/Fair become somewhat average NT, when they can actually be pretty solid, bigger DT in a 4-3.

And you're surprised that guys who mostly were recruited to a 4-3 defense would seem to fit better in a 4-3? Give them time to get guys to fit. We've got a 3-4 nose. We'll be fine. I'm fine with them putting in their system and then recruiting to it. No more half assed running something to appease the guys you have. Put in your system them recruit over the upper classmen if you have to.
Chinander's defense has given up 30+ points in 7 of our 10 games. Let that sink in. He has to be related to Cosgrove.
