Our schedule next year is pretty favorable. Only 2 tough games are little red and urban liar at home.

So we are declaring that not making the conf championship game next year would be an underachievement??
Leave it to you to heave the bucket of cold water...

Come on, man, surely you were impressed by the potential you see unfolding here, right? Hoosker Du is saying what a lot of people in huskerland are thinking... the future is bright. Whether it happens next year or the following year, it’s gonna happen.

Highly impressed and agree we will be back. One sign of when we are well on our way is when we say we should win the west and actually mean it.

If we are going to declare we are going to win the west then we should be upset if we don’t.

The original message says we are going to own the west starting next year with a lot of people agreeing. Just checking if we really mean it or is it just the usual hyperbole

I get we’re taking the easy road/schedule like the 80’s and 90’s, but who’s coming back other than AM and JD that you’re really excited about? We started 11 seniors OSU started 3. They should have won by 30.

I am too gun shy to call for a West division crown. But if someone else wants to make the call, I will happily support it.

We have claimed the crown too many times and been left holding the bag. I do think we have a good shot next year. But not ready to claim the crown til we actually do it.

You are really starting to sound quite desperate. Don't you have a morale victory to cheer for? Or is that last Purdue score too much for you?

And as much as people are excited by AM, JD and Mo Washington, the graduation of Morgan will just leave teams to give JD a lot more attention. Also Zig is a steady between the tackles runner that doesn’t turn the ball over. No one is going to crown this team without them earning it - and they will need more depth.

I don't think we'll miss Morgan nearly as much as you think. He's a good receiver but not great. He probably cost us a game earlier in the year with an inexcusable drop in the end zone earlier this year. He doesn't have great speed and can't get separation. He's replaceable. Ozigbo will be missed but I suspect we'll be able to fill his shoes too. We may miss Farmer more than anybody......

"Should have won by 30??" OK, so you're not familiar with this game of football. If you were, you would realize that Nebraska SHOULD HAVE left Columbus with a win today, had we not shot ourselves in the foot multiple times. Just multiple bad mistakes to sabotage ourselves.

Missed the game today, huh? You should have watched it, because we had an offense that at times moved the ball at will. And a defense that was mostly up to the task. And although our team made some critical mistakes that cost us the game today, we have a much more manageable schedule next year, with the majority of our difficult games at home.

I saw the game, and am already looking at our depth chart for 2019.

It's a real shame the staff didn't figure out the Farmer move to center much earlier. I think this year's offense is going to be hard to improve upon in one off-season. Our OL next year has holes to fill, and Morgan will be missed. If we had some studs at WR ready to replace him and add overall depth, I would feel a lot better.

Net/net, our DL next year doesn't look that much better. Lots of youth at LB, although I think we'll be better. Secondary should make real strides.

Not a fan of the 3-4 and still don't think we'll have the personnel to run it right. Schedule and another year in the system will benefit, but I would be happy to get to 7 or 8 wins next year.

Who are the 3-4 personnel that "guarantee" it's gonna happen?

Name them.

Actually, we should have won today, but the 3-4 is still porous in run defense with the wrong personnel, and we give up so much underneathe, and we can't get to the QB with our blitz packages (unless it's JoJo off the edge).

I agree about the Srs, some will be missed, and frankly, I don't see a ton of talent waiting in the wings.

So color me skeptical.

We're 3/4 of a season in, after changing our offensive and defensive systems, and played right with Ohio State in their crib. We are on a great trajectory with AM as QB.

Sure, we lose some personnel next year, but we also add a lot more speed at receiver and RB than we are losing. Stanley Morgan is a solid receiver, but his speed isn't making any DBs quake in their shoes. Andre Hunt and Miles Jones are going to be more dynamic in the long run. Losing Ozigbo will hurt, but again, some great talent coming in.

Our front 7 may very well be improved actually. The Davis twins and Stille are back. Freedom will be easy to replace, and Mick S. has been playing hurt for the last 3 years. Losing Dedrick Young is addition by subtraction. Plus we get another year of strength and experience with Daniels and D. Thomas. The defensive backfield is tending very positively IMO.

The big difference is schedule. I can see winning 9 and being in the hunt for the West. Our schedule is much easier than this year. Much easier. Replacing Michigan and MSU with Indiana and Maryland.

3 or 4, huh? Ok, I’ll bite. AM, MW, JD, all look to be great players in conference. They are capable of leading this team to the top of the west.

I didn’t guarantee anything, which you would have seen in a later post of mine. The only thing I am saying is it’s only gonna get better, and yes, I do believe we will ultimately, year in and year out, be a major force in the west, representing in the CCG more often then not.

That’s fine if you disagree. It’s just my opinion, which could be wrong.

I think he meant personnel to run the 3-4 defense.

Completely agree with “being in the hunt”

That is quite the hedge from the original post stating the rest of the division is done and only spectators after this year

You shouldn't take things so literally. We are going to have the best talent coming into our program as compared to the rest of the West from now going forward, and we could still have some growing pains next season, but we're going to start owning the West sooner than later.

With Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Iowa coming to Lincoln next year, and us picking up Indiana and Maryland on the schedule instead of Michigan and Michigan State, I think we win the West next year.

Oops... woke up to go to the bathroom and saw his post. Too tired to understand. You are right. Our Defense will be better simply from having another year in the system. But to his point, we still need to get better recruits for the defense. If we primarily focus on the offense, it’s gonna be tough to win it all every year. :)

The big elephant in the room that people here don’t seem to understand or at least don’t think about is how staff turnover and changing scheme every year has killed us. I think having two consecutive years of being under the same staff and same systems will do wonders for our team, especially the defense. I think we improve from a consistency and discipline stand point. Add in this staff’s expectations of putting in work in the weight room and I think it’s hard to project how kids could improve because we haven’t had that in years with all the staff turnover we have had. Yeah, we aren’t going to compete for a title next year, but we are going to get better. It’s just going to take a few years to build. Which shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

None of us have a crystal ball but it's clear we are improving! Can't guarantee of divisional title but personally I'm more confident than I've been in years heading in to next season.

Next season we may have to steel Michigan's slogan from this year. Might be time for our "Revenge Tour!" Man I wish we could fast forward and get this thing kicked off now!!

So, neither Davis twin is a true NT. I see Daniels and the incoming NT as more of a true NT option.

Stille to me is more of a natural DE (either side) in a 4-3, same with Thomas. Neal has more natural size at that position. People dog Freedom but he holds the point of contact this year.

Our OLB with Domann should be better. The two true freshman ILB are going to have to play right away, so that will be a big learning curve, but I welcome the influx of talent.

Looking at the numbers and returners in the secondary, I am very hopeful for improvement there.

Look, MSU is going to want to run the football. They are stout. Well coached. If we can't take the running game away from them, well, color me skeptical we will be able to do it next year to get to 9 wins.

And I am on record here numerous times how much I dislike the 3-4 at Nebraska.

While optimistic I won't be quite so enthused until we actually start beating the better teams with some consistency. This team had the opportunity yesterday but left a lot out there. Still need to learn to finish to get over the hump.
