Well the McCaffery’s are loaded so $100k or whatever the going rate for a kid that never started a game In Colorado until his senior year probably isn’t worth enough to warrant the risk for their reputation....

I understand a lot of the things you do/say but sometimes you’re reaching and going out of your way to trash Nebraska without actually blantantly saying what you’re incinuating.

I am bashing the fans and writers who cannot accept the fact that a kid would choose another school over Nebraska for anything other than money. Everyone else cheats but us, everyone else has bag men but us, we are this pristine program that does no wrong. I just find it amazing we can get any top recruits at all without paying or cheating. Why would a recruit's family turn down 6 figures for the opportunity to play at Nebraska for free?

Some people in this world do have ethics and don't want to accept bribes.

But nobody's going to risk NCAA sanctions for a 3-star recruit like McCaffrey. You save that money for the guys like Cam Newton.

Ok then what about Mills and Hannah and Bland?

Also funny that when we are talking about how great the class is going to be that McCaffery is a 4 star, but in this discussion, he is a QB that hadn't played a down and a 3 star. Can't have it both ways

Listen, I don’t think anyone is naive enough to think Nebraska has never payed someone. But at the same time, I think not everyone is for sale and I haven’t recently heard a report of Nebraska offering to pay for a recruit. Doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened, but i haven’t heard of it. That said, if a report did come out for a guy we wanted, I wouldn’t be upset if the other team that was in the mix was pissed. And that’s the kicker here. It’s not that kids are being paid, it’s the way this went down and the fact that word leaked. It’s not unreasonable for people to be upset considering all the circumstances. The details matter.

What circumstances? Allegations from a fan base that just lost a recruit?

It isn't about Nebraska paying, it is about everytime we lose a recruit, it is because the other school paid.

Yep simple question to many on here that cry constantly about this stuff. Since Frost walked right in and stole AM from an alleged cheating school like Tennessee, Im wondering how much money it cost to get him? How about TL, Gebbia, Roberts, etc?

Sorry, I totally disagree with this. Often our fans throw out the fact that the other person was paid… But there’s nothing behind it. No facts, no evidence one way or another. It’s just people being upset for no apparent reason. Other than the fact that the player chose to go to a different school. This time is different, because you have reputable people reporting shady dealings going on. I’m not sure why this is hard for you to see the difference… How often have we had Callahan and Rose say that a recruit went elsewhere because of money? You can’t even count it on one hand. That’s why people are upset more so then at other times…

A lot of what Tuco points out is how people can be hypocrites.. they say and act one way in a certain situation, but when it is turned around, they say and act completely different. I certainly can't speak for him, but that's how I interpret what he is saying in this situation.

Finding what he perceives to be hypocrisies from Husker fans is definitely his thing. No doubt about that.

Kentucky fans are now saying that Robinson's dad was upset that Frost didn't call him to thank him after he committed here. They also said that Frost originally promised him he would take JD Spielman's position and JD would be moved, but wen't back on that promise this week. Yeah, I'm sure Frost told him we would move our record-breaking receiver to guarantee a starting spot for someone who hasn't played a down of college football yet.

I think we may have dodged a bullet with Robinson's dad.
Sounds to me, if what his dad says is true, which I highly doubt, that this is a Kid/Dad that wants things handed to them and fear competition. He picks the school that will have a hard time recruiting over him. Would not surprise me if he decommits/or transfers during his career if what his dad says is true.

Very large difference between the usual “I bet they paid him” and this. And you know it. Usually is a couple pages with one or two people saying dumb things. I can only remember a few times where things really got stirred up with losing a recruit and I know at least one was ole miss shortly before they got busted and put on Probation. Second, Media members saying it carries more weight. It’s an absurd standard to say “show me evidence of money changing hands” and you know it. These guys wouldn’t be buying recruits if they were so bad at it that hard evidence could be obtained the day after a commitment.

I think it’d be a little early for that alleged exchange to occur. I’d imagine they’d wait til he signs on the dotted line before he’d get most of the alleged offer. The NCAA is inept at investigating this stuff and they’re definitely not efficient at it. Vince Marrow has been a cheater since long before he became an “inner circle advisor” for Maurice Clarette. He cheated everywhere he’s been including here. Honestly, if in a couple of years the ship isn’t righted by Frost and staff; the boosters better get the improper benefits rolling or we’re becoming Minnesota. Maybe I have low morals, but I’ve always thought players should get more of the pie beings they’re the primary product. Politics and greed keep the money from trickling down to the product. The NCAA has a monopoly on amateur football allowing no options, but to attend college if you have goals of becoming a pro.

Count me in as one of those guys who wants actual fire. Not smoke.

People's reputations are on the line including the Nebraska fans, Nebraskans themselves and the university and staff, right or wrong, when people pop off without proof. Evidence is not proof. Rumor is not proof.

And in the end if its not proven, Nebraska didn't get that talent, and to boot got smeared by its own fan base acting like idiots in the social media sphere.

Nebraska's online presence can be good or bad. And in this case, ultimately, WE took the hit....unless PROOF comes to light.

In the mean time this sucks for us 6 ways to Sunday. Better to shut up AND put up.

I agree that the idiot fans on social media are not helping at all.

But this Robinson saga reminds me a lot of Stringfellow and Ole Miss. I remember questioning Ole Miss fans about why they were landing so many top recruits all of the sudden, and they swore they were clean. Funny how Kentucky's recruiting has also improved substantially since they hired Marrow. Before Marrow, their recruiting classes were ranked in the 50s and 60s - they were the Kansas Football of the SEC. After hiring Marrow, they are always in the Top 30, even though they haven't won crap until this season. We also know Marrow's shady history with boosters, dating back to Maurice Clarett and Ohio State.

Well, I'm not familiar with that. But picture a scenario where Marrow dimes Nebraska out....

Not saying Nebraska did engage in unethical practices, but what if the program did have an affiliation with some booster who did engage in some shady stuff that Marrow might have knowledge about, do you really want to put Marrow in a corner?

Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.

I don't know why it has to be either "he got paid" or "Scott Frost mishandled it". To me, this is "player was pressured to stay close to home". Considering the situation, that seems like an easy explanation. I did find the allegations of money being involved to be a little more credible than the usual talk because of who was talking about it, but I'd have to see more evidence to actually believe it, and I doubt we'll ever see it, and even if it was true, it's highly unlikely anything will come of it.
The biggest problem with this whole situation is that he was thought to be a lock for us until less than 24 hours before his announcement, so people are upset about that. They feel like we had one stolen from us at the last minute. Had he never been thought of as a lock for us, I doubt people would have been as upset and looking for alternate explanations for why he ended up committing to Kentucky.
What I get tired of more than anything else, is the notion that our fanbase is somehow worse about this stuff and people trying to play hypocrisy police about how we complain about it more. That's nonsense. I'm sure there was a lot of idiocy said around social media about this, and that kind of stuff bugs me because it makes us look bad, but every fanbase has their idiots like that. Maybe we might have a relatively few more of those types, but that's what happens when you have a passionate fanbase. Frankly, I'll take that because it's the same passion that fills up a stadium to watch an 0-6 team one week, and a makeup game against an FCS opponent the next.

The NCAA has to get slapped in the face with a dead fish half a dozen times before it would admit that something smells like fish. They won't go looking until a reporter writes a story with verifiable evidence.....or Alabama complains.

This isn't even about hypocrisy tough guy. It's about not being able to accept that a player chose to go to Kentucky simply because he wanted to play close to home. He chose Kentucky over Nebraska, must be because he was paid. Now a couple of reporters with ties to Nebraska, want to throw out speculation, all of a sudden it means it is a fact that Kentucky paid. Show me something other than a jilted school and a couple of reporters opinions.

This would be like Notre Dame saying that Nebraska had to pay Henrich to go to Nebraska because everything pointed in the direction that he was going to commit to Notre Dame.

Vince Marrow has been at Kentucky since 2012, where are all the allegations of wrong doing since he has been there? I couldn't find any. The only thing you can find is that he was in the inner circle for Clarett in the early 2000's

The reason people are suspicious is because everyone in the know said he was a lock to Nebraska. And Robinson even had someone in Nebraska create a graphic for social media saying he was committed to Nebraska. Then he suddenly changed his mind the night before his commitment date?

I'm not saying Marrow offered to pay him, but Marrow definitely did some shady recruiting at the 11th hour to get him to change his mind at the last minute. It could be that they promised him a starting spot next year and Frost wouldn't. I'd guess there's more to it, though. Remember Ole Miss didn't get busted until they started winning. Nobody has looked into Marrow at Kentucky because Kentucky Football has been irrelevant until now.

It also looks poorly on their staff if they fail to land such a highly rated recruit so close to home. Look how people criticized Pelini for his failures to get some local kids. Not saying they paid him, but like you said could have been a guarantee for playing time which Frost would not give. Also if the Dad was upset about Frost not thanking them for a commitment, should be the other way around. They should be thanking Frost for the opportunity to play at NU.

So if, for some reason, Robinson decides in mid December to sign with Nebraska. Does that mean Nebraska paid more than $100,000? Does it mean Kentucky never paid? If there were any writers, outside the state of Nebraska, that had written articles that showed an inkling of evidence that Kentucky had cheated I could see maybe how this would have legs. But every thing I’ve seen is that there were no inappropriate dealings and many who say it is not true.

Again, you make it sound like Nebraska reporters speculated what might have happened and made it up. So the report is the handler called frost asking him to match, and frost hung up on him. That’s the report.

Are you saying the details here were made up because there is no verifiable evidence money changed hands? Really?

If our top recruiter was Maurice Clarett's cousin and former handler, then yes I would be suspicious if a recruit changed his mind at the last minute after a phone call with him. I was sure suspicious of John Blake when he was here.

But I'm not aware of anyone on Frost's staff who has even a hint of shady recruiting in their past. I doubt Verduzco was funneling money to recruits at Northern Iowa.

I would be just like you right now if every time a commit switched Callahan said frost received a call and hung up.

But the fact of the matter is, this doesn’t happen. Callahan hasn’t said this before. I’m not saying his word is gospel, but he knows recruiting better than most and has heard more stories about shady recruiting than any of us.

So why does he say something now? Does that make WR guilty? No, but does it raise some eyebrows? I think so, you don’t think so. I guess we will be on opposite sides of this one.

I’m not on Twitter, so can’t comment on this. If true, then this argument takes a big hit. Jim Rose isn’t the dependable guy I would count on here… If Callahan were to say it, it has legs. But if Callahan is indicating otherwise, then it’s time to press the eject button.

Honestly it’s probably time to move on anyway. The kid is going to Kentucky and not to Nebraska. If there was something shady it might come out, but probably won’t. If there was the NCAA might do something, but probably not. Bottom line is WR is gone and it’s time to move on. Plus, this discussion has obviously jumped the shark, as all the trolls are gone and we are just left arguing with the board contrarian.

For whatever reason he is going to Kentucky instead of Nebraska. The wisest thing that I have read is that we probably are fortunate to not have his dad as an outside influence on our program. There are other good players that will come here for the opportunity to become part of what Frost is trying to build. There will also be other players that come here and eventually not be the right fit and leave, it happens. I trust that our staff will find more guys that will fit and stay.

Yep simple question to many on here that cry constantly about this stuff. Since Frost walked right in and stole AM from an alleged cheating school like Tennessee, Im wondering how much money it cost to get him? How about TL, Gebbia, Roberts, etc?

One difference between your accusations and the smoke from other programs is that NU has never had anyone publicly accuse them of paying players.

So, show us the smoke or STFU.
