I realize Soccer is a big deal in other countrys, but if your not a parent or grandparent how can you watch it ? if they shorten the field it might help they spend 99% of the game in the middle of the field doing nothing. well I got that off my chest.

Agree...soccer blows.

Many people that love soccer have the same complaint about football.... Rest for 30 seconds, a play, rest again, then a play.... A lot more resting than playing! Constant movement and action during a soccer match, which is similar to those other boring sports like hockey, lacrosse, and polo.

I love Nebraska football! But not everyone does. To each their own, and with respect.

I personally dislike baseball, both playing and watching. Half the game on the bench blows!

Think football as a combination of a non stop track meet, a chess match, and some rugby contact. Totally different type of athlete, ave miles ran during game is like 7 to 8 miles. Just totally different sport.

That's why they have all the singing and fighting amongst the fans. There's nothing going on on the field. The over/under should be the number of fake injuries and flops. Football=BTN in60. Soccer=BTN in 1. Then throw in the fact that after the end of regulation the officials arbitrarily add time. You thought we got hosed playing Texas!!!!

Baseball is faster then most think from managing player perspective. My son who plays pretty competive, told me when he was 12u, my friends said baseball is slow, I asked his opinion, he said baseball is fast. You need to know what is going on each pitch etc. I said you are right, much faster then most think. More stuff going on than people realize.

It's not about scoring to soccer fans, it's about the process! That, and seeing the players moving around well.:)

I love the big four American sports. I think soccer is boring. I'll watch some of the world cup, but that's about it. I can only think that others like it because that's all they have.

Water is wet
Being a liquid, water is not itself wet, but can make other solid materials wet.
Wetness is the ability of a liquid to adhere to the surface of a solid, so when we say that something is wet, we mean that the liquid is sticking to the surface of a material.

As someone who used to hate soccer, and has now become a fairly casual fan of the game I’ll say, American soccer is boring. I try to support our Sporting KC team, but I just can’t get into it because the game is so boring. The MLS is where EPL stars come to make a few extra million before retiring (David Beckham and Wayne Rooney). We’re so far behind the rest of the world in terms of good, competitive, entertaining soccer it’s not even funny. That said, watching some EPL on Saturday mornings before Gameday starts can be very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. When you watch top table teams going at it, Man City and Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea, those are fun matches and you really begin to understand the strategy behind the game when you watch. There is much more to it than just kicking the ball around.

Welcome to culture 101. We are quaint and parochial. Most of the world thinks American Football is a slow, boring sport of various commercials interrupted by brief periods of a couple of plays. Americans being fat and lazy, have to rest between each down, not being fit enough to play a real sport.

Having once been a part of the soccer sucks school, I know where the feelings come from :p I still think baseball and basketball suck.

When it comes down to it, football (not futbol) is the only sport that really matters.

People so quick to denigrate others, their culture, and their favorite sport. Just let them have their football, and you can keep your American Football while it lasts. With Concussions ect., the rules are changing rapidly and youth participation decreases every year, while soccer participation increases every year and every new immigrant loves football(soccer). I would much rather invest in a MLS franchise than NFL, $ for $, and see what the returns are like in 20 years.

I love American football but can appreciate other people's culture and sports.

They've been saying this same thing for the last 20 years (soccer is going to overtake football and basketball in the USA!). Yet, the best athletes in the U.S. still play football and basketball. We can't even qualify for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, nobody watches the MLS on TV (World Series of Poker gets more viewers).

Baseball is slow, way too much time to process what your going to do before you have to do it.

It won't happen in year 2028 could start to change by 2038. 20 years ago, 1998, American soccer was a total joke, has improved a lot since, but our kids aren't professionally trained by professional teams like Europe. Just takes time for American Football participation in HS and college to drop like a rock, while at the same time, public money being thrown at MLS increases. As soon as MLS can pay big $$s, then kids will switch. NFL changes all the rules to support Fantasy Football and Betting. Let's see where the legal ramifications go with concussions at NFL, NCAA, and HS level.

As long as NFL and NBA players make millions of dollars and college football and basketball players get full scholarships, the best athletes in the U.S. are going to gravitate to those sports. With 130 FBS schools that can offer 85 scholarships each, there will always be plenty of kids that will take the injury risk for a chance at a full-ride. That doesn't include all of the FBS and D-II schools that offer scholarships. Football is the life-blood of many universities and isn't going away anytime soon.

Meanwhile, very few of the major-conference schools even have a men's soccer program, or they have had to cut the program because of Title IX or budget issues. Even then, NCAA Men's Soccer programs are only given 10 scholarships. Nobody goes to the games. As for the MLS, less than half of the players are from the U.S. and the number is actually declining.

Immigrants love soccer, but they love the top soccer leagues in Europe and South America. Most couldn't care less about the MLS, which is barely a Top 10 league worldwide. The MLS is where washed-up European players go to collect one last paycheck.

lol no

One thing baseball has that tops soccer is that in baseball the final score can't be a tie.

Hard to enjoy soccer if the final score ends up in a tie.

NFL has ties, soccer has ties in non-elimination matches. I personally like that two teams can get a result (1 point) out of one match if they played equally well, seems more fair than NFL where a team can be equal for 60 minutes and then lose on a coin flip basically.

Yeah I doubt soccer overtakes football or basketball or even baseball anytime soon. I read an article in the New York Times recently that stated that youth soccer participation has declined over the past few years as other sports (specifically baseball and basketball) have seen upticks in youth participation.

I think culturally, we as Americans, will never fully embrace soccer the way the rest of the world does. I think much of that is due to our “rugged individualism” and our historical rejection of anything resembling “Old Europe.” That’s probably way deeper than it needs to be, but I also think there is some truth it. In contrast Football is distinctly American. Football, soccer, and Rugby all pretty much fall into the same family of sports, but football is a distinctly American version of the three. I don’t think that’s by accident and why it is wholely embraced by Americans in general in a way soccer has never been.

To be honest, I think Rugby has a better shot at over taking football and basketball before soccer does.

I would bet other than near the end of a game the ball is snapped way before 30 seconds...

Grass fairies don’t have to pick themselves up off the field when they get knocked on their azz play after play..

Ohh wait a minute unless the flop on the field..

Here is the article - youth soccer participation in the U.S. has declined more than any other sport in recent years:

Americans were never going to compete internationally in soccer. Youth soccer participation is a great example. You can't manufacture a sport with soccer moms carting kids to elite academies. Even thinking statistics like that are important is a sign of failure.

The biggest failure though is starting in middle school and high school where it is organized only for part of year. Follow that by a high school and college system that simply destroys any potential kids have and doesn't even follow the same rules as the rest of the world. A college graduate is already a relatively useless and past-his-prime player having never been adequately developed or faced any kind of competition. Top players across the world are making debuts in the top leagues at 17-18 years old. Americans have 0 chance of ever competing with that.

For most of the rest of the world, soccer is what kids play every day, day in and day out in the streets or parks. It isn't something organized a couple of hours a week by moms and elite coaches sucking orange slices during water breaks. Much like our sports like basketball, baseball, and football used to be.

I have a few friends that are diehard soccer fans. I appreciate the fact there is some strategy going on; the problem is 99% of the time it doesn't translate into goals.
