But the thing that sticks with me is this:
In OT, it's 3rd and 1 at the 16th, and we get a false start penalty, making it 3rd and 6. There are no words to describe how awful that penalty is. Just beyond stupid. Off the charts stupid.
Of course, NU gets 5 yards on 3rd down making it 4th and 1. Bad snap rolls behind Martinez and he's forced to run for his life and chuck up a prayer. There are powder puff football teams that could execute a successful snap to the QB in that situation, but NU managed to f*ck it up.
I'm only partially tongue-in-cheek when I suggest NU players f*cked that stuff up on purpose. It makes more sense than to suggest they are so woefully incompetent that they can't execute basic stuff that Pop Warner teams can manage without error.
Concur.
So much wrong with the game today but that series in OT is completely, totally unexplainable. Centering around........ unbelievable, unexplainable, never ending new ways to totally **** things up in regards to the o-line.
A theme that has been prevalent in all 6 games this season. And was prevalent today. First play from scrimmage....... false start. In OT we have some flow getting right where we want to be on third and 1 getting ready for a couple shots to get into the end zone ...... false start. Immediately followed up by rolling the snap back to Martinez.
Someone mentioned the possibility of point shaving in a previous thread with the sheer volume and untimeliness of “mental” o line breakdowns and **** ups this season, it has been the singular thing that has been consistent this season.
While that’s a bit of a stretch, I’m beginning to think that there’s something wrong along those lines. I can’t believe that this unit, now after spring ball, fall ball, and 6 games in, still cannot execute the most basic elements of their position.
