Bell has just two years of eligibility Ozigbo is taking most of the carries and Washington as a true Freshmen is averaging more yards per carry and is picking up the offense fast.

That leaves bell stuck in the middle not getting too much action and with someone behind him that will probably also get more caries next year.

He could stay and be the breather / backup for two years or he could leave and try to be a starter immediately.

Have to feel for a guy like Bell who is desperate and is relying on this one thing for his success...in one of the most competitive fields in the world. You know a guy who doesn't make med school still has a lot to fall back on, can probably get a degree in most areas and find work, a guy who gets demoted at rb for a winless team is looking at an end to his career. It is all fine and dandy to move him from first to 3rd or even 4th on the depth chart in the name of competition, but that demotion equals desperation to him. Many of kids do not have academics, family business to fall back on...this is it...if he makes it he is set for life, if he doesn't make it life gets pretty damn hard for him. This is exactly why Jucos are a risk...you are getting somebody who isn't invested in the school or the degree, and needs this shot to get them to the league. best of luck to him.

Here is the issue with our staff ripping his *** in the media. The dude played well against Colorado, and looked decent against troy. Everybody got destroyed against michigan, and then everyone got sick the next week. Our boy Mo sat out the week, who is to say Bell wasn't under the weather too...but was able to practice, or felt like **** and still practiced. He has a lethargic week, coaches view that as an indictment of his work ethic or what not, and he is demoted...but not really because they still brought him in on a 4th and 1 to run a **** play call. Then they blamed him for not having the right footwork. And all of this is public because we know about it. Coaching staff needs to grow up, every day we get farther away from their undefeated season, and deeper into this winless season. Hope they learn from this debacle. Shut the hell up to the media about slow blinkers, bad practicers, and guys who aren't bought it....I'm not sure the whole staff is bought in.

I honestly don't know what this staff saw in him that they thought he should start. He was losing playing time on a winless team. How the hell is he going to find playing time and be a starter on any other P5 team?

I think the staff can identify players that are under the weather and take everything into consideration. Other than a few short yardage play calls, I have no problem with how this staff is going about things. The kids just have to adapt to a staff that holds them accountable in all aspects of being a D1 football player. Gonna take a little time here.

True. And he had a substantial lead. The defender didn't have the angle, he flat ran him down. Looked like a fullback getting run down. Everybody in the stadium around me couldn't believe it either

I have to ask because it’s been referenced here and in other threads. Did the coaches “run down Bell” before or after he quit?

I didn’t see anything before he quit about it, but I have seen stuff after he quit, from Held, that everyone seems to be referencing.

I am asking because I don’t know the answer. If the coaches are bad-mouthing the players before they quit, they may want to try a different motivational tactic. But if the bad-mouthing comes after the player quits, how did that factor in to his decision to quit?

He's lucky he was in on those 2 plays because any running back could have seen the giant hole he had on those 2 runs. Bell even stutter stepped the second time when he would have been better off just going straight through. Those 2 runs brought his average way up, but the real credit should go to our OL on those 2 plays. I wonder what his average is without those 2 runs?

Agree. Further, nothing the staff has done changes the way Bell responded to it (quit). You can debate the appropriateness of coaches openly discussing specific players that are underperforming. In my opinion, though, the real issue is how the players are responding to it. Some would choose to buckle down, keep their mouth shut and prove their worth as a contributor (Ozigbo). Others choose to take it personal and quit (Bell). In my opinion, one of those is clearly the better way to handle it.
