Is this the first time someone’s ever said “I can’t wait for football season to end and basketball to begin at NU”?

No. I'm pretty sure 2 of the last 3 football seasons were the same. They were for me at least.

In fact, I'm still not ready for basketball season. I continue to hold out hope that the light turns on at some point this season.

It is nice to know that basketball might be good this year, though. It gives me something to look forward to in the spring.

Keep getting good news for the basketball program! This kid is quite athletic and is probably still growing.
That was my thought as well. We also know that with the new NU administration that Miles will get the axe if any in-state D-1 talent shuns NU to go elsewhere. There is no doubt that he's gotten the message that he better land all of the Nebraska kids regardless of position.Winking

He allegedly really wanted a Creighton offer, but they allegedly said go to a Prep school, with no guarantee of a scholarship. Still glad Nebraska got him because they need to make inroads with the OPS schools.

o_O So that's the official Creighton line now since they didn't get him? I've heard for months that he had an offer from Creighton. Sounds to me like the old, IF you'll commit we'll sign you. I thought only basketball blue bloods used that one to avoid looking like they got spurned.

That’s what Gary Sharp said this am on 1620, which matches what I heard over the summer (regarding him wanting a CU offer) at some AAU tournaments. Patton and Thomas recruit the good Omaha kids hard to go to CU, so Nebraska landing him is a good thing.

If Miles can build a winning program, his players can be from another planet for all I care. But that said, it will help the program long-term if some home-grown talent can come in and contribute.

There will always be highly touted guys like Akoy Agau who leave the state and don't end up doing much. And there will always be some late-bloomer, under-the-radar players who leave Nebraska and find success. These become real sore points with fans if NU is struggling, but not if it's winning and filling out the roster with good talent. A prime example: Should NU have offered Mike Daum? Based on how he looked at the time, probably not. But don't pass on Mike Daum and then tell me Nick Fuller is a Big Ten basketball player.

I'm curious what Miles' plan is after this year. Our roster is going to be like 10 guards plus Brady Heiman. You have to have some guys who can defend the post in the Big Ten.

Hopefully this is the year we win a tournament game, because next year will be ugly (especially if Roby goes pro).
Appears he’s looking to use the ‘ol 5 guard rotation for 40 minutes. Who needs rebounding in Big Ten... Eek

I agree we need a Big Ugly in the post, but they are hard to come by.

Why is that? We seem to be about the only school that can't land a prime post player. Can they not be productive in Mile's offense? Do we not put a premium on recruiting them? I just don't get it.

Define “Prime post player.”

You really wonder why the only P5 program in the country with 0 wins in the dance can’t get a prime player at the most difficult position to find?

You do realize that they are rare? There’s approximately 3200 males in the US of ALL ages 6’10 or taller. We’ve got one of them in Brady Heiman. We’ll see how he turns out.

They're like left tackles. It's rare to find a guy big enough and still athletic enough. We have to build them and you can do that if you can find an athletic guy 6-8 and over with a good frame. He doesn't have to be 6-11, he just needs to be wide and fairly quick. We need a mauler and it appears one of our former walk ons may fill that role nicely for us this year.

3200 over 6'10. Out of 245 million ÷2.

We outbid Creighton? Impressive
Not high enough profile for a bidding war but I wouldn't be surprised if a family member gets a better job....not that there's anything wrong with that. It happens in high school sports all the time. Especially in cities with multiple high schools. Sioux Falls O'Gormann in South Dakota was notorious for that.
