Can someone please explain the point of a regular season in the NBA? We all know only 3 maybe 4 teams can win the title, and let’s be more honest, only two can win the title.

If you want drama, the element of surprise, then the NBA is not for you. If you want predictable TV, then you will love the NBA.

Only 3 times in the leagues history has a seed lower then a 3 seed won the title? over 70 years... So for Wildcards win all the time in the NFL & MLB.

They could certainly eliminate 33% (or more) of the NBA and baseball season as far as you and I are concerned, but they have the numbers to prove it's worth playing that many games I guess.

What’s the point of going to watch an 0-4 college football team? I mean, other than you are a fan of the team, the sport, or the players and you enjoy watching them compete.

I agree with eliminating the NBA but Eliminating the MLB by 33% totally would have reshaped the MLB playoffs. Likely looking at a Card vs Brew crew play in, with Cubs winning the Central & the Rockies the west. Cubs would have been a #1. Dodgers would be done. Changes everything

I don't really care but the cubs played 42 games in 47 days to end the season and it is likely that fewer games to a point would put better teams in the playoffs. Do we really want the world series decided by injuries and uneven scheduling and weather? So the Rockies and Brewers made the playoffs because they didn't have ****** weather in april..makes sense.

What injuries did the Cubs have that hurt them? Yu? Darvius has sucked for 4 years. Cubs were stupid for getting him. Morrow is the only guy that probably hurt them but I thought Strop did a fine job as his replacement.

I think Madden over thinking things killed the Cubs. A deep bench isn’t always a great thing. Guys want to play, Zobirst, Schwarber, Heyward, & even Happ deserve to play every day and Madden made them platoon guys. I felt like the Cubs got worse when they signed Murphy, one of my favorite hitters in the game. But guys want to play. And his addition added more bench time to MLB players who should have been playing.

Lastly, bases loaded last night and Madden pinch hits Heyward over Schwarber, WTF? Kyle gets a hold of that ball and he could easily have made that game 4-1, Heyward doesn’t have that in him.

And Yes I’m excited to see the Brew crew in the playoffs. Yelich and Cain. Brewers IMO have a way better lineup then the Cubs maybe not as deep but best 9 vs 9, I’d take the Brewers

Baseball is greatness and every game counts. NBA sucks from game 1. NFL is becoming a joke, baseball is the only truly affordable pro sport.

Murphy replaced Russell. There weren't really any changes to PT. Heyward was hurt most of the time Murphy was in the roster. Schwarber was hurt a good part of that time. Bryant was hurt most of the season, even when he was playing.

You should review Darvish's stats, because you're talking out of your ***.

Ben Z was getting time @ 2nd base, correct? A lot more than when Murphy came over.

Yu has only pitched 200+ IP one time in his career. And he’s only pitched over 150 ip one time in 5 years. He is always hurt. He missed 2015 completely. His era hasn’t been amazing or ace like since his second year. I guess his worth is subject to each person perspective but compare him to Cole, who was a great pick up. Cole always around 200 ip a year. Something that’s very underrated in baseball is keeping a rotation in tact. The year the cubs won the championship not one starter missed a start due to an injury. That played a major role in their run for the World Series.

Not keeping Dexter was a major issue of where the Cubs went wrong. They never filled that role of a lead off guy. I told all my friends when Dexter left, that’s a mistake

I only watch baseball during the postseason and honestly a full game only if my team (the Braves) is involved. There's just too many games in the regular season so I just tend to check the stats and standings every couple weeks. Otherwise I'll watch the last 2-3 innings of a game if I have nothing else to do.

This might the worst take on the 2018 Cubs, ever. No clue.

Baez played 2B basically all year until Russell got hurt. Not a person alive would want Fowler on his current contract. Cole was not available to the Cubs. Just stop.

Team was tired...that shows in hitting...with bases loaded you bat the contact guy...there is no doubt the team was exhausted and it obviously showed in big games. It didn't matter if they won the division or not, they were not moving on because they haven't had a chance to rest and recuperate at all. Baseball is stupid and dying, those are facts...and it has turned even worse with the actual cool parts of the game minimized like base stealing, bunting, defense, and long starts. Now it is dudes attempting to hit 40 HR, bat .220, and not strike out 200 times...games are long AF, starters who make +10 million/year pitch fewer innings than a HS pitcher, then they bring in 3 dudes that throw 100, while the other team swings for the fences and strikes out 3/4 batters. There are amazing athletes in the game who are no longer encouraged to actually play the game...we need reliever limits, limit shifts or remove an infielder. Lame ****** game and the fans or lack thereof are evidence of this...

they stopped hitting well before they were tired from the ridiculous 30 games in 30 days or whatever the hell it was. No excuses, guys did not produce.

Second Half wRC+: 89 (24th in MLB)
Full Season High Leverage wRC+: 67 (Last in MLB)
Full Season Men in Scoring Position: 88 (24th in MLB)

Didn't hit at all in the second half and didn't hit all season in big spots. 40 times out of 164 games, they scored 0 or 1. It was terrible. Let's see what they do in 2019.

I think they're going to eat Chatwood's 25 million and try to sign Hamels to something like 2/35. They then have Lester, Hendricks, Q, Darvish, and Hamels for their rotation. Monty back to a swing role. They'll let Chatwood try to figure it out in the bullpen. When that likely fails, he'll be released.

On offense, they owe Heyward 106 million over the next five years. They need to find someone to take him, as there's just no place on the roster where he fits. I would expect Russell to get released, as I can't imagine there's any market for him. Baez becomes the everyday SS. I wouldn't expect Murphy back. I think they take a run at Harper instead. Probably a straight platoon with Happ/Almora in CF makes sense. Zo fills in everywhere again. Need a contact speed guy to play 2B and hit leadoff but not seeing a lot out there. Wonder how the front office sees Contreras - he should have a bounce back year with the bat, but his receiving is dreadful, and that needs to be remedied with the aging rotation with less than great stuff.

Strike year right?

Yes, the strike that season split the season in two halves.
The leaders of each division from the first half and the second half advanced to the playoffs.
The Reds finished a close second each half and had the best overall record.

The Reds were also leading their division in 1994 when that strike ended the season completely.

Someday this board will learn not to argue about the Cubs with "cubsker."

I have no doubt that cubsker loves his cubs. He’s just bias about them. I don’t know as much about the cubs as him but I follow ALL teams. I’m a dork and play fantasy baseball. I’m always analyzing stats. Anyways IMO the cubs just weren’t an elite team this year. Their pitching staff is old, even though Lester did have a hell of a year but I will argue until my face turns blue that Yu is overrated as hell. When the Arm continually goes out, it doesn’t come back. This isn’t 2014 anymore. He can’t last a season. Theo made moves moves with him and Heyward and has completely committed to going the FA route to build a team and he has lost his touch at that.

Something like #24 in farm system rankings and it’s not like the system is depleted because of call ups. The cubs traded a ton of talent away. I’m glad as hell as a Sox fan, Theo got the hell out of Boston. He’d have sold Mookie and Benni, and all the dam young talent that has made us elite. And yes Cubsker would know more about the Cubs then me, that’s not my team. But I do know that team wasn’t good enough. I do know they have too many in between guys that should be everyday players that weren’t. If Cubsker says they were hurt, I believe him but then why the hell were they on the dam roster. With the 10 day DL, get your guys healthy and keep him on the DL until he’s healthy. It’s hard enough to hit and you aren’t helping anyone by trying to do it hurt.

I’ll do what cubsker said and stop. I’m not really trying to rip on the guy nor the cubs. Half my family is cubs fans. I was raised a BoSox & Cub fan back before it was fashionable or cool. I literally dropped the cubs cause I could only take so much disappointment in baseball.
