Run the F-----g OPTION. Hold the ball on offense until 5 seconds then run a play. Scott Frost you are back in Nebraska, Oregons plays will not work, you don't have the talent and your team has no discipline. Bench most of your starters if you have to especially the ones that are serial personal foul participants.
Damn I wish they hired you instead of Frost. What were they thinking!

I will answer you respectfully not sarcastically. Frost is a great motivator who is skilled as a coach . My opinion is he is running the wrong system. He will not get the highly skilled athletes he had at Oregon or UCF. If you don't see what young kids see when they go to Oregon or Florida then go to Lincoln then I will just leave it at that. On top of that the Big 10 is a strong power league and the top schools are getting their own athletes from in state and they have a legacy. How long ago was the Penn State scandal. All on the Red Sea Scrolls said PS was a dead program, done for years, no parent would send their kids their. Well we can see what has happened and the results. Fact is Nebraska will not get the top out of state athlete in a group. They must do with a system that is a power based ball control unique offense. The option allowed them that. Teams can't practice against it because they don't see it. It worked before and will work again. Or 15 years from now a 7-6 team will be good and accepted.

IDK man, most big 10 teams run a variance of Spread, and are super successful when they have a running qb. Frost wants to add tempo to basically the same system that OSU, Penn State run. We aren't going to dominate the big 4 or 5 in the big 10, but tempo is a way to wear them down and create mismatches...the games are going to be close like they are between the best teams...Tim Beck's spread of 2010-2012 was good enough to win a big 10 championship, but the defense was not. The offense will be fine, but how will scott address the defensive scheme...that is going to determine his success like it does for all big 10 teams.
Correct people talk about the option offense like it won us national championships. Like everything else it played a part, but Nebraska also had great defenses to go along with those offenses. If our defense was as good as the 90's teams then we would be 4-0 right now.

He was brought back because of his Nebraska legacy, if it was for a hurry up offense then a mistake was made. It will never work in Lincoln the athletes to run it will not go to Nebraska. Plus this is the Big 10 it will not work against the power teams.
But, penn state runs a hurry up in a colder state than Nebraska, as does Ohio State....

But why won’t the athletes come here?

Penn State and Ohio Stare are in a much more fertile recruiting area than we are. Ohio and Pennsylvania produce a lot of in-state talent, and Penn State is the only big-name program in the Northeast U.S., so they get a lot of talent out of New Jersey and the DC area. They are also close to Ohio. Ohio State has played in a BCS or Playoff Bowl 11 of the last 13 years, and one of the years they didn't they still finished undefeated but had a bowl ban. Pretty easy to recruit with that record of recent success.

It's going to be tough to get the numbers of top-end WRs we need to run this offense in Nebraska. There's typically not many great wide receiver recruits in the 500 mile radius.

Both schools recruit well nationwide. If you build it, they will come.

There isn’t a style anymore where Nebraska can win consistently unless they recruit well. They will never win consistently being Navy.

You talk about the defenses in the big ten, then try to sell an offense that runs gimmicks to get to the outside. It won’t work in the current state of affairs. Maybe in 5-10 years the landscape will change, but it’s not a sustainable offense right now.

I have never bought into the excuse that players wont come here.

If you give them a reason to come here they will.

I know this will sound a little scandalous and blasphemous, but I blame Coach Osborne for this thought process. Just like I blame Coach Osborne for the notion that you can't have a reliable passing game in Lincoln and win because of the weather.

To the first point, when he switched his offense from a pro-style to one that utilized the QB run game, a dose of option and a power run game, he was able to recruit a lot of offensive linemen from within the 500 miles, rely on WR that could run block, and catch a wide open pass, and got many of his RBs from instate because everyone ran this style of offense. The need to bring in top 100 players was minimized due to the offense he ran. He wasn't competing with other top schools for talent, he was competing with only a few schools for the top running QBs. His defenses were OK for the most part, but not sensational. They had top units statistically because the offense kept the ball away from the other team and the defense was designed to stop the run. Then, when the offense built large leads, the opponents became one dimensional and the pass defense was good enough. Then came the late 80's and early 90's and the annual beat downs received at the hands of Florida St and Miami. Their defenses were dominant and slowed down the Nebraska offense and exposed the Nebraska defense. At that point, Coach Osborne and McBride went to Tallahassee and learned what Coach Bowden and Mickey Andrews were doing defensively. At that point, they implemented a switch from the 5-2, to a 4-3, they moved OLBs to DE, safeties to LB and the transformation began.

I agree with the point that Nebraska won titles, in the 1990's because of defense, not necessarily offense. The offense was principally and theoretically the same from 1983 to 1993 and beyond, yes there were tweaks, new formations, etc,

As far as the passing game goes, I see teams throw the ball all over the country. Places that have just a severe and cold weather that we have in Nebraska, have schools that throw the ball. But Coach Osborne believed in his system and made comments to the fact that passing the ball in this weather wouldn't be successful. I don't buy that. The offense is what won Nebraska 9 games per year, the defense won titles. Any offense, ran correctly and efficiently can win you 9 games per year, but without the defense, that is the limit. Washington St, Boise St, Purdue under Tiller, Oregon under Kelly. Those teams have/ had great offenses, but the defenses they had weren't good enough to get them over the hump.

Now back to recruiting, Nebraska can get the top athletes, if they recruit them and show them they can have success. The uniforms at Oregon are nice and all, but if you are losing 7 or 8 games per year, no one is going to Eugene, Oregon just for the uniforms. They went to Texas and California and got athletes that wanted to play in a wide open offense and got them to come to Eugene, when they won, they kept coming.

You realize that “lower level” team he left would beat you by about 50 points right now. And about 5-6 teams from that conference would beat you by 20+? And those “lower level” teams are something like 8-3 in New Years Bowl games against “upper level” teams?

This ridiculous thinking is why you have been wallowing in mediocrity for 15 years. The game is passing you by and you don’t even recognize it.
Lol Michigan beat us by 40+ You are no Michigan!. I believe you would beat us, but there are many teams that can beat us right now. You are more comparable to Purdue. So I would give you 14-20 on us
Love how lower level teams treat new years day bowls as their NC. They are meaningless. Did you ever stop and think that maybe the big boys are not too motivated to be playing the lower level teams in a bowl that means nothing? They treat it as a week long vacation. The lower level teams treat it as a super bowl. Until you actually start scheduling and beating big boys in the regular season you will always be a lower level team.

Was the sun in their eyes too? Was our dog staring them? Did they all have a cold too? Did their dogs eat their playbook? Just trying to help offer more lame excuses why all you so-called big boys keep getting your asses handed to you by UCF and some of the other "lower tier" teams. I figured by now, you'd fallen so far, you'd get up for Troy.

Winners win. Doesn't matter who they play. Winners get up for everybody. Entitle snobs don't get that. It's why you get embarrassed by "lower level" teams. So called G5 teams are like 8-3(could be off 1 or 2) in Near Years bowl games against so called P5 teams. So ALL of those losses were because these supposed great teams had so little heart and character they didn't care if they won? All ego. No heart. Its why you are where you are.

Lower Level = level of competition.

There's a reason you went undefeated last year yet didn't even sniff the playoffs. Because your strength of schedule was 67th in the nation. Try playing a conference schedule of Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan State, etc. A little different than East Carolina, UConn, Temple, Navy.

FYI: The Big Ten went 7-1 in Bowl Games last year. Your conference's 2nd-best team lost to Iowa State.

Playing the equivalent of above average highschool teams year in and year out will tend to give you a stretch of wins. Congrats you are the best of the crap teams.

This isn't about UCF vs the worst Nebraska team in school history. Of course a roster that Frost built and coached would crush one that Mike Riley built. But playing the likes of Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Michigan State, etc. week in and week out, is quite different than playing mostly teams like UConn and East Carolina. The quality of coaches in the Big Ten is on another level compared to the AAC.

But the point of the post is that I question whether Frost will be able to recruit the athletes needed to run his offense to Lincoln, Nebraska, that can beat the top defenses in the Big Ten. Having a roster of Florida athletes vs. the likes of UConn and Temple is a major advantage. Now Frost will have to take a roster of 3-star guys against the 4 and 5 star athletes of Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan.

Most of the players Frost coached were recruited during the previous 3 years by the former coaching staff lead by George O'Leary.

Frost was able to mesh players that were recruited for a totally different offensive AND defensive scheme (old staff used a 4-3) with those that fit his system...and did it rather quickly (Year 2).

Frost had multiple players on his staff that were recruited by O'Leary that are now in the NFL like Griffin, Smith, Akins and others.

Yes, Frost got Milton out of Hawaii and go some FL kids like Killins, Anderson and landed an amazing talent in DB/Punt Returner Michael Hughes who got kicked out of UNC and ended up at JUCO, then couldn't enroll in time at South Carolina.

Then again, almost all of those players were 2-3 star recruits...and many seem to work extra hard on/off the field because they have a chip on their shoulder...they ALL had something to prove...and fortunately, for UCF, that has been going on for quite sometime...well before Frost and now after Frost.

There are plenty in St.Louis every year, throw in Kansas City and you can get the 4 star wide receivers. We just need to get this thing going and they will come on board. Also JD was a three star and I would take a JD all the time. Some of these kids get stars based on camps when they are in helmets and shorts. Our wide receiver recruiting will be fine under Frost.

Yeah...I'll gladly take that too after a few years.

Or how he got fired from his alma mater.... He might be an ok coordinator, but lets see how he recruits once the other guys were gone. Your own fans bitched about his recruiting.

His current class is already equivalent to the best of Frost’s (which was about the same as O’Leary’s). Our recruiting has been relatively the same through the years.

Frost gets credit for fixing the locker room and bringing in KZ (who was the mvp of Oregon’s camp). The majority of the roster were O’Leary recruits who beat the hell out of Baylor in the fiesta bowl before the coaching implosion (which caused the 0fer). It was the perfect scenario for a coach like Scott Frost. He had the talent just had to rebuild their confidence.

It’s Danny White who gets the credit for turning UCF around though. He defined the brand and decided uptempo spread would be a part of it. Heupel fits Danny’s mold just as well as Frost did. Just not as good looking and he’s already been fired by his alma mater.

Re everything else in this thread, y’all would be insane not to be patient. KZ had six fumbles in his first game, not because he’s bad (clearly) but because Frosts system takes time.

Chins sucks though. Fire that guy, but let the rest be.

we been looking for pass happy since solich, ran crouch all the time cause dan and buck fumbled. frost and pass happy Oregon offense is the best we are going to get..
so I'm willing to give frost 7 years to install pass happy..and a defense that just slows them down enough for us to out score them. if we win a lot I myself may become pass happy.
