All I know is that the second he came out in the shotgun with no blocking backs on 4th and 1, I stopped worrying about Frost doing anything for a while.
What killed those super fast Oregon teams? Quality D-lines that can get penetration. That is what the B1G does, stout front 7s built to disrupt the run. Even Purdue and Indiana have NFL D-linemen, which makes it tough for the spread to work consistently. See Rich Rod at Mich or Tiller at Purdue after Drew Brees left and the league caught up. Need strong O-line who can move 300 lbers to succeed in this league, hard to have an O-line like that, full of road graders, when you run the hurry up spread.
The other side is that if you have a couple bad series and go 3-and-out, it can be a death sentence for your D against a bunch of teams in the B1G, much more so than any league he has coached in so far. Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, MSU, Mich etc. all are capable of going on an 8 min 12 play drives that wipe you out physically. Puts a lot of pressure on the O to execute consistently when they only get 1-2 possessions per quarter.
'Husker power with Oregon/UCF speed' sounds amazing, but it is nearly impossible to achieve at the college level. Only Bama comes close, with their 10+ years of #1 recruiting classes, to being able to pull it off. 320lb tackles simply can't run 80-90 plays effectively, their bodies will break down. Good luck with it, we really need someone else in the West to step up and give us a real game every year, so I am actually hoping Frost can improve the program significantly. I just don't see it with this system in this league (which I have said since before he was hired, its not a simple overreaction to the start of this season) but he can make some adjustments and still have a heck of a run.
