I heard about that happening years ago with a college basketball team. A player refused to enter a game during garbage time. That player was not allowed to suit up anymore and was essentially suspended for the rest of the season. I'm pretty sure you would have to cut ties with that kid. That kind of insubordination cannot be tolerated.

Oh I completely support this. While I am not sure of the motivation, I am guessing it is to preserve a redshirt season or some sort of eligibility.

While there may be consequences, it is his career and if he doesn't want to do it, well the coach can't make him.

Sitting behind my son's high school team's bench I saw their PG refuse to go back in a game...but it was after the head coach told him he F###ing sucked as he came off the floor a few minutes earlier. We don't know all the circumstances of the situation at Tennessee. Personally I wanted that coach fired on the spot. That kid was a really good kid who went on as a college scholarship athlete. The coach was a dud who had never done anything and shouldn't have been allowed to coach 15-17 year old kids. Be careful when you judge a kid on his actions. Sometimes there is justification for seemingly immature behavior.

So being treated like a dog is acceptable? I totally support a person encouraging employers, bosses, teachers, or coaches to treat them with respect and look out for their well being. The productivity of a company and the max salary of a board does little good for our nation. Having hard working employees who feel respected and cared for does.

Sounds like the player didn’t like being a back up playing in a game the team was losing. He didn’t go in, doesn’t sound like he was being treated like a dog, he was asked to play a game. He plays well he can earn more time, he plays poorly he can lose the time he has.

He better have more than what the situation seems or he should be moving on to another program.

One doesn't know everything that led up to this OR what was said to him. This board is really good at judging players without knowing details. JMHO.

I wonder how much of this stuff is that these stories have so many more ways to get out these days. I imagine stuff like this has gone on for a long time but it used to be that you could keep most of the stories in-house.
