I know his playing time is invaluable, but I wonder if the coaches would consider redshirting him after the fourth game in action to not miss a year of eligibility.

Don’t kill the messenger.... just something to think about with the new rules. He could get completely healed up, stay close to coaches and learn the offense more and be a redshirt freshman next season.

Lots of different opinions on this. I say yes, but many fans think that he should be thrown out there to gain valuable game experience

If he’s hurt or if the games stay fairly lopsided, I don’t see how it’s going to be productive. Additionally, WRs are graduating, so it’s not like he’s building an on the field bond with say SM Jr.

Biggest problem that comes to mind is that leaves us with 2 walk ons at QB and that’s it. Can you imagine the histrionics of this board if the coaches were to pack it in like this? You think it’s bad now, what will it be like if we don’t win at all this year?

Also, What message does that send to this year’s team? You’ve quit on us, why should we fight for you? And I know some will point out that many have already quit, but if we redshirt our best chance for victories this season, I believe it could get even uglier within the team. Just my opinion though.

Not SMJr, but what about JD or TL or Mike W or Woodyard or Allen or Rafdal... all of these guys are seeing some major playing time...

If we had depth at QB I would say yes 100%. If we RS Martinez and Bunch would get hurt, We have nobody at qb.

No......this season is about the future win or lose.

Get over it.

Great. So make it 2 years since he hasn't played then complain when he doesnt play as well as you want him too.

We have to get the QB position in shape, and that means Martinez plays, you then have 3/4 QB's next year, RS McCaffery, to start building a pipeline at the position.

Well.. it’s definitely true that if one of them gets hurt we really are down to one QB. That’s just too risky for any program

Just to be clear, I wasn’t saying I was in favor of it. I just threw it out there as a possible scenario - in particular if his knee is more dinged up than we know.
