....was my favorite takeaway from Saturday's game. Did you guys notice what he did to shake defenders "in space"? It was "different" for sure.

I'm looking forward to increased touches for #28 as the season progresses.
His performance yesterday was much more subdued than I expected from all the pre-season hype. He showed a glimmer once in the game of what he probably will be but he definitely wasn't there yet yesterday. I think he'll "arrive" this year but it's still down the road at this point in time.

IMO let Washington play 4 games take a redshirt get into the weight room he needs to add weight and muscle, he'll struggle in big 10 play

He played very tentative yesterday. But I was also able to see what he's capable of. Once the nerves calm down a bit for him, I think we'll see a lot more of that capability. Mo Washington and Ozigbo are out best backs right now, so he could become our premier back very quickly.

Does anybody think he has kind of a bizarre Walter Payton-esque run style? He's not big, but he's long and he has very weird movements that must make it hard to tackle him. Those twists he does to get out of tackles are just other-worldly. That, I think, is what is going to make him our featured back one day.

Ya, was expecting Bell would pull away and score on at least one of those.
Well I think Bell too had never played in front of such a big, noisy crowd so it was a bit of an eye opening debut for him. Obviously his fumble certainly was not good but I think he is and will be a good back. He had a "few" yards yesterday.

There were two plays where Bell got run down from behind that Washington probably would've taken to the house. I think we'll see a lot more Washington and less Bell as the season progresses.

Bell hits the hole well but doesn't seem to have the wheels to take it to the house once he gets to the 2nd level.

Not sure if our guys were slow OR that Colorado had some real burners on defense. They almost ran down Martinez on his TD run which got my attention. And I thought AM was pretty fast.

Mostly liked what I saw from the Space Cowboy. Ozigbo is still Ozigbo and that's still a good thing. Bell disappointed me a bit, but I'd bet he improves his decision making as the year goes.

Takeaways:
Where was Wilbon?

We are in clear need of a faster RB that break away and take it to the house.

Martinez put on too much weight.

Slow him down.

Where was this meme born? Wilbon is not a burner either. We saw plenty of that last season and in the spring game. Ozigbo may just be our fastest RB. I felt good having him in there on offense.

Surprised we didn’t see Miles Jones. Sounded like he was really coming in and making some big plays in practice
It would be nice to have a running back who at least has enough speed to not get run down from behind. I hope Maurice, Miles Jones, or Bradley can step it up and become our feature back.

No way is he faster than Washington, Bell I can see but not Washington. He happens to be our most experienced back which is a benefit to him. Bell hits the hole fast but his top end speed leaves a lot to be desired.

Wilbon was on the bench, where he belongs.

I was wrong, kid will play all year, and will be a dynamic force going into next year with added S&C. GBR

Bell may not be able to outrun the D but at this point he is almost doubling up everyone else in avg per carry. I will take him for now.

RUSHING GP-GS Att Gain Loss Net Avg TD Long Avg/G
--------------------------------------------------------------
Greg Bell 1-1 13 105 1 104 8.0 0 45 104.0
Devine Ozigbo 1-0 14 61 1 60 4.3 1 8 60.0
M. Washington 1-0 8 36 2 34 4.2 0 10 34.0

Our fans are so stupid...they don't like the guy who averaged 2x what everybody else managed because he was run down twice...he also hit the right holes... being a back is about patience and reading the play..not spinning widely until you get your head knocked off...Washington had not idea what he was doing and Devine was average like always.

Bell is fine. He's a good RB. He simply doesn't have breakaway speed . I think some are just suprised he isn't faster than he is. They feel that some mods or coaches commented about him being a HR guy. I don't really know if it's true or not but alot of people have mentioned it so I assume there is some truth to it.

Personally I wasn't suprised. I distinctly remember reading or looking at a profile of him from somewhere and he was like a 4.6 forty guy. When I get time I'll try and find it . So I know you aren't running away from D1 DBs with 4.6 speed.

Bell is a damn good back though. You don't have to be a 4.4 guy to be a good RB. Guys who come to my mind are Lev Bell and Emmit Smith. Both are great RBs who lacked top end speed.

If we are being completely honest our RB room lacked speed in general until they brought in this year's class. Guys like Wilbon, Bradley, Ozigbo, and Bell aren't running away from anyone.

To me it's kinda like the Mariotta statement Frost made. Guys like Bell can be effective in this offense. It's just that guys with that HR speed can be GREAT in it. He was talking about QBs who aren't the fastest etc being able to succeed and be effective BUT if you have a guy like Mariotta he can be special.

Imoits the same concept. Bell and Ozigbo can be good. A guy like Washington and maybe Jones could be special.

Give our fans a little more credit. They aren't dumb they just know that had Bell been 4.4 that was likely 2 TDs and maybe 80+ more yards left on the field.

I simply think they thought he was faster than he is. IF that's Mo Washington that's a house call both times. That's all I think they are trying to say . Do you disagree with that?

I can't wait to see more of the Space Cowboy. I like his wiggle, and I think he is going to house call a few in the very near future, starting with this weekend.

So True Greg Bell would smoke Ozzy in a foot race. I rewatched the game and in the first long run it is clear as a Bell, that two defenders had a clear angle on him and one of them made the open field tackle.. Colorado also has twice the team speed on D that we have. So I’m sure Bell was caught of Guard sense he was scoring on these type of runs in practice. Bell and Washington once they adjust to major college football will be fun to watch. Can’t wait tell next week.

I was more comfortable thinking Bell was slow rather than Colorado has twice the team speed as us on defense.
